Kurt Zouma - Young Stud

Featured Replies

I'm sure by now everyone has earmarked kurt as a really good player for the future but he did not like out of place at all against the spurs. Very strong tackler, his positioning look very good, he can score the odd header like terry and he is an international. Kalas and Zouma a pretty good CB duo for the future right?

Looks like he's getting read to crap himself whenever he's on the ball, i'm just going to put that down to his unique awkward style with the ball at his feet (much like Costa) rather than label him the next Carragher.

I think he's further a long in development than Kalas who has essentially been wasted for the last 6 or so months

"It was a good opportunity for Kurt Zouma under pressure.

He's playing very well every time he plays. I'm so happy with his evolution since he arrived. He will be a big player for Chelsea for many years."

Not too sure about the title of the thread.

Anywho, looks a decent player already and will surely only improve in time.

Shows that Jose has faith in him already by bringing him on last night rather than putting Ivanovic in the centre and bringing on Luis.

I'm happy when we have a defender like Zouma, it's like Real Madrid has Varane.

Zouma is very talented, when he gets every possible chance then he does almost everything good. I hope Jose won't look for a defender in January.

In the pre-season I wasn't that impressed by Zouma, but his performance yesterday was excellent and I was kind of surprised. Looked very confident and, as is said before here, he didn't look out of place. José seems to have faith in him as well. Would like to see more from him; hopefully he starts against Newcastle or Sporting.

He's rough, but he's looked better in each match he's played which is astounding really. His passing style is awkward because he has that squat, crouchy style but it sorta reminds me of the way Desailly would pass the ball.

Physically I've never seen anyone like that at his age. He's like Doobs on steroids and he's a monster in the tackle. He just needs minutes alongside JT, just like JT learnt alongside Marcel.

im going to be a bit criticle , like scott he seem's a bit awquad on the ball some times, not that it bothers me with a defender that much, but what really made me worry last night is he was inviting Kane to go inside and on his stronger foot rather then forcing him wide on to his left peg and away from the goal.

Well he's already better than mangala, from what I've seen of mangala anyway.

I think we have to be careful when judging players from other teams like this

Mangala is still adjusting to the league, has played excellently against Chelsea, ok against Bayern and has regularly been tested at a higher level.  On top of that he's selected ahead of Zouma for the national team.

Zouma has hardly played and still looks a bit shaky.

No doubt he can be great in the future but he hasn't shown anything to suggest he's better than Mangala right now.

I reckon next year Mangala could be one of the best defenders in the league.

He made very impressive interceptions last night, especially one defence splitting pass from tottenham that could have had us in trouble. I like him and he's got incredible athleticism. He may not look the most comfortable on the ball (maybe just his style) but he is positioning himself very well in the games i've seen, and is very quick for a big guy too. I think his doubters need to lay off him a bit and give him a chance; he's still a young guy and has plenty time to improve. I think if people go back and look at Terry when he was 19, people would likely see mistakes in his game, but now look at him. It certainly helps to be playing alongside an excellent defender and legend of the game in Terry, and will help him tenfold.

I don't think he looked uncomfortable on the ball. To me he looked like he was trying to keep things simple to avoid a mistake.

With better results than David Luiz, I might add

I agree and think he is just focusing on keeping the ball. Comfort will come with time.  After all, he isn't even legal drinking age in the US.  Plus, passing technique can be taught but his physical prowess cannot.

Everytime he has played so far he has looked very solid, he has an awkward passing style but as long as he defends well i'll be happy enough.

+1 - I have read posts/tweets that CFC should get Vertongen. I am like why when we have young players like Zouma & Kalas ready to step onto the pitch. Both have played in very intense matches (ok playing spudz maybe not that intense but it's a London Derby).

Young stud? Worst title ever

It's a term mainly used for appraisal of talented boxers or combat sports athletes, though I can see how some can interpret as porn dialect hahaha.
