Classless Fans

Featured Replies

Every team has them. One thing that bothers me the most in football.

Derby supporters really showed themselves up tonight. Singing about John Terry whilst Kurt Zouma was treated and taken off. Also some of the comments i read from them online tonight were disgusting:

"Haha i think their goalkeeper is a secret Derby fan"

"Meh, dont bother. Put him in a bin"

"f**k the Chelscum tosser leave him on the side of the pitch to sleep it off"

Reminded me of the shameful comments Spurs fans posted about Walcott after the cup match with Arsenal and the comments from QPR fans about wanting to see Remy break his legs because he joined us.

l know there is a rivalry among fans and teams, but wishing harm on players and revelling in those moments when players do get seriously injured is just disgusting and is an embarassment to the clubs they support.

Thankfully, both Zouma and Drogs' injuries tonight werent serious according to Jose (apparently Kurt lost a tooth and suffered a minor concussion) but the way Derby supporters behaved tonight was nothing short of disgraceful. Thoughts?

English people, English supporters :laugh2:

It's not as common as it used to be however, but yeah theres still that bad part of football. It's a very competative game, either they take the game too seriously or they go to a match to blow off steam.

I remember I went to a Middlesbrough V Chelsea game, home town, this was when Rafa was in charge. Now you know that Boro is scum central of England, but the amount of abuse John Terry got from the crowd whenever he touched the ball was crazy, thank god we won that game as I couldn't get tickets for the away end. There was one bloke near me just screaming at Terry 'I hope ya die ya c**t' whenever he was on the ball for a period of time, absolutely mental, obviously drunk but still a classless bar steward none the less.

There is class in football though, our fans were absolutely unbelievable with the respect they gave Lampard. Now people on this forum know my opinion of the Lampard situation but I was really chuffed to see our fans behave that way, it was fantastic. I can't think of many supporters that would do that, Arsenal fans were calling Cesc a c**t and everything and it was them who turned him away. God knows what Liverpool fans would do.

I don't think this will ever die from football really, but come on, our players are professional, yes it's not classy yes it's harsh but John Terry gets abuse almost every away game he goes to. Yet does that ever disrupt his performance? Absolutely not he is a true character, very strong to be honest, I don't think I could go to game and game with that abuse. But also these stars are paid absolute megabucks as it is, it's the type of things expected to encounter in football, pros and cons that's sort of stuff. Like when you become famous you can't exactly have your privacy anymore, you're a famous footballer you can't say things a normal person could say. Like when Ferdinand was charged for that comment recently, that's a comment you see everyday from many types of people on twitter.

I doubt it will be a popular opinion but these sort of things from fans are just expected and are something we should just get used to, I don't think it will ever really be stopped, but I think we should also look on the bright side and be grateful for how times have changed.

BTW it's not just English People & English supporters. It's part of the game & yes I find it very therapeutic to yell at the opposition. A good outlet for people so they don't go postal from dealing w/ the rat race

Oh definitely. Also, not forgetting that amazing reception Drogba got when he came to the Bridge for Galatasaray. One of the biggest reasons he returned i reckon. I love to see that.

Speaking of Lampard, i have his name and iconic number 8 on the back of last seasons third shirt. I still wear it with pride. Had some wally in the local offy ask why i hadnt binned it. Turned around and saw he was wearing a Chelsea top aswell. Some people... Didnt even dignify with an answer.

As for JT, yeah, he is a strong character, but it doesnt justify the nature of the comments. Plus, tonight wasnt even really about JT so much, it was the fact that Kurt was motionless on the floor and all the Derby fans could do was treat it as an opportunity to yell abuse.

There are moments where respect should be observed. Maybe i'm just more mature than the average punter up there, but i don't like seeing any player seriously injured. Irrespective of the badge they wear on their shirt.

Sign of the times I guess.

Also, for the record, not saying games should be like a library and people should behave like they are. I love the atmosphere and the banter. The chants and insults can be hilarious. It is what drives the team. But what i'm saying is, we could do without all this nasty ill natured sh*t like wishing injury, disability and death on someone because they play for a different team or scored a winning goal against their team the previous season.

Calling a player a w**ker isn't what im talking about. They're all big lads and as pointed out, doesn't bother professionals like JT and co.

Aye probably shouldn't have said that, people will get the wrong idea, but I don't mean just English supporters, however we know how fickle supporters are over here, just as they are anywhere else.

Some would wish death on a rival player, but praise him if he was playing for there club.

I dunno, I still haven't forgiven Fabregas for the celery incident...

I say that's a good sign, if we all forgave players for anything then they wouldn't really be punished from committing acts like that would they.

I hated Fab before he came here, he looked like a twat at Barcelona as well when he dived for the penalty then had a bust up with Lampard. I believe he also spat in Ballacks face at one point? Yeah he was a nasty piece of work with us especially, how times have changed though, Frank is off scoring for our rivals and Fab is here helping us win the league.

Football is crazy when you think about it.

Not only were they singing John Terry is a w**ker they also just shouted w**kers. Complete classless twats and I hope they rot in the Championship.

I'm all for a bit of banter but alot of what football fans sing is disgusting at times. I don't like Arsene Wenger but people shouldn't sing that he's a peado. I know Leeds fans often sing about the Munich Air Disaster which is disgusting, although it is Leeds fans the most hatred filled classless twats of the bunch. Just think there are some things not right with this world.

Our own fans have been just as bad to be honest. When I look back at the things that used to be sung at times, it makes me cringe.

I couldn't warm to eto'o at all, no matter how well he played

That rage is mainly built up through a combination of tribalism, jealousy and drunkenness. There are some very sad people in this world!

Football fans believe they have the right to say anything about footballers. We are all guilty of it at times. I think because people care so much about their club they want to fight (sometimes for real) for the club. Other fans and players are the enemy. What gets forgotten is that they are people also and we are all watching a game.

Fans say things in the heat of the moment and now with social media its easier to get wrapped up in an arguement with other fans.

Last night I saw some Liverpool fan slagging off all Chelsea fans with the typical rent boy insult, I went on to her profile and he worked for the NHS and seemed like an ok person but before I took the time to check her profile I was going to send her a lot of abuse.

My point is I think a lot of people should take a step back and think before making comments about the players and other fans. Its easier said than done at times but it would make things a lot nicer for everyone.

The comments on line from individuals don't bother me at all but the chanting while Zouma was down I thought was really poor.  That said I remember countless times being on terraces where "let him die" would ring out every time an opposition player went down injured, it usually died down when something looked seriously wrong though and that wasn't the case last night.

Was there a particular reason for the Derby fans to be aiming chants at Terry?

Just small time fans trying to sound like some premiership fans from a couple of years ago,...... out of touch & classless.!!...... bit like going to some out of touch, remote little country and seeing everyone walking around in flares and 70s scouser perms and 'taches...... :laugh2:

It's because personal lives of sports people and celebrities are so magnified in the media that any moron can sit on their high horse and pass judgement on their actions without knowing them personally. These are the same people who fail to look at themselves and see the kind of person they are. I actually feel sorry for those people as they must have so much built up frustration and resentment for life to carry that attitude in around with them.

Oh okay, so it was slagging off John Terry just because he's John Terry then?

Even though he's never done anything to effect Derby fans or their club, has retired from international duty etc.

I didn't realise booing Terry was still a "thing".

I was at a rugby league match in Yorkshire once when a player was knocked unconscious. A big Yorkshire lad shouted "drag his lifeless corpse of't pitch and get on with it"

and that was one of his own players :)

It's a tough one isn't it. A massive match for Derby and they knew they had to create a big atmosphere but when a player's down it's sometimes touch and go whether it's serious enough to warrant a break in singing.

I'd say they probably crossed that line last night but if the same thing happened to someone like Stevie G at the Bridge then I doubt he'd get much sympathy either. I've heard far worse from our fans over the years but you get that at every club.

Having a pop at JT is a national sport anyway so it's not like they were directing abuse at Zouma. It was just a big day out for a little club and they got overexcited.

Yeah I wasn't impressed with the chanting while Zouma was down although to be fair they all applauded as he was carried off.

All football teams have their 'classless' fans, as do we. I don't like it when we sing "you support, you support, you support a load of sh*t!" to be honest. Not really sure why, I just think there's more to football than that.

Football does strange things to people. Makes some normal intelligent types become one-eyed, rabid, imbeciles, but enough about Evertononians. I look back and cringe at plenty of the ones that used to be sung, particularly about Munich in the early 80s. It comes out back out at OT at times but that's usually been in response to united asking where the famous Munich song is. It's no excuse but it's the way people are.

I don't think 'class' is a word that should be used to describe any football fans to be honest, because every set of fans has its pond-life type elements/moments.
