Douglas Costa Chelsea Target

Featured Replies

Saw the Bundesliga highlights last night. Douglas Costa looks fantastic.

Left footed, quick, technical AM that can play on the right. Exactly what we could do with at the moment, and to think we were linked with this guy for months.

Pep and Bayern fans in general giving him very high praises.

Not bad for someone who's awful and apparently not good enough for us.

Makes it even better when the player goes as far as to basically issue a come and get me, which by all accounts seems we ignored.

Most fans on this forum were massively against it.. Not that it matters it just shows the value of rating players we don't watch

I can't list how many Bayern fans blasted this transfer when it came and now he is being touted as Ribery 2.0, fans should really leave player evaluations to the professionals and not "arm chair wannabe football manger fans".

That's what they said when we signed Cuadrado.

.... And Salah.

Chelsea's new transfer policy...

Are any of the following interested?

Juventus interested? Yes

Bayern interested? Yes

Real Madrid or Barcelona interested? Yes

Should we send a scout to watch him? f**k no just sign him.

What's more painful is forget the fact this window he was almost to the point of buying himself a ticked to London to hold up a picket sign outside the Bridge, this is the guy we chose Cuadrado over, I think in January they only wanted about 16 million and we turned our noses up...I used to think we had top scouts, seems all they do now is look for 16 year old Brazilians and wait for other scouts to find players and say oh yea we will have a bit of him even if he doesn't work for us

We should start giving time to those young players we find.

Oddly enough, all the positions we are crying out for are covered by young players sitting on the bench. Puzzling why they are there if not to be used

You missed a step off.....endless board room discussions about said target. Meanwhile every other club in Europe has already met with the players agent.

Talk about a short memory. This time last year everyone was praising the club's amazing ability in the transfer market.

Yeah because no club ever buys bad players. I got no problem criticising Chelsea on here but i will defend the clubs transfer policy over recent years because i think we have been pretty good. Since Emenalo went to technical director our transfer dealings have been solid.Look at the dross Utd,City and Liverpool have spent in the last 5 years compared to us. This video sums our good transfer business.

No you're right, don't get me wrong can't argue against our transfer business... but for all the good decisions (for me) there's a few exceptions;

- Sold De Bruyne/Schurrle

- Signing Cuadrado/Falcao (they haven't shown anything to suggest they're fit to wear the shirt)

- seemingly chose Cuadrado over Douglas Costa (although for all we know Costa chose Bayern over us)

- allowed Mandzukic to go to Juve (who I felt would be a good replacement for Drogba)

As you say every club signs bad players, but at a time when we're looking too predictable personally think we need all the help we can get.

To be honest if it was a straight duel between us and Bayern I think most players would pick them over us. But like others have said above Douglas Costa was quoted many times declaring how he'd have loved to play for us. It seems like we might well have been able to sign him in January, and if that's the case then it makes the Cuadrado transfer seem even worse then it already appears to be.

Gary knows his stuff, like he said if we signed good, had we done that we would have kicked the teams when they are down and dominated for a few years....this is our issue

So then why don't we go all in for bale?!!

Don't get me wrong, I'd love it, but we'd need to sell a few players to accomplish that in the next two weeks...

I don't get why so many people are up in arms over this.

Many thought he wasn't good enough and didn't want him here, me included.

Yes he's had a good start but let's give it a bit more time and see what happens.

The premier league is different to any other league and many great players are just not cut out for it.

Also, and this is a bit of a guess, isn't Willian generally regarded as the better player by both Shaktar and Brazil coaches, after all he seems to get more game time for both teams than Costa.  I like Willian but if we are buying someone shouldn't it be an upgrade on him.

However it must be said i was for buying Cuadrado and thought that he would be great but now and at the prices mentioned i would prefer Costa.

Its not football manager, you know that.

Wish we did it from the start, sell oscar to juve and Cuadrado to who ever will take him, there is 50-60 million put 20 on top we could have maybe got him or someone of that caliber, but we badly need a CB and maybe we couldn't afford both...

he does look impressive at the moment, but it's waaay too early to tell. i think if given a chance kenedy may end up surprising a few people. it is just about being given chances to show your worth, otherwise these players go unnoticed. brazilians are rarely ever awful technically, that's the thing.

It's not that unfathomable that we made a huge signing to capitalise on our success, it's what most were expecting back then..

Its hardly going to be easy buying Madrids record signing after a season though, is it.

Well he was touted to be available, new manager, bad season, abused by fans...if they has someone on their radar, not too hard

Not too hard. Ok.

Can you two stop flirting?
