Chelsea in for Falcao?

Featured Replies

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this but there is a good way to get around the paying higher than average wages and creating discontent matter. paying

Chelsea just pays a loan fee and Monaco continues paying the wages. However high his wages are, no one can have a problem if we don't pay the wages. Solves the issue of splitting wages and taking a pay cut while on loan.

Saw a rumour that we were paying a loan fee of 7m and so...

Not going to comment too much on Falcao but I don't like this move.

HOWEVER if we are serious of making our squad better and really mount a serious challenge on winning the Champions League we need quality players even on bench who can win matches. Falcao is a quality player but not sure if he's gone or not. Drogba this season was a younger Falcao for our squad.

Bringing in Solanke or Brown to the squad is not a serious move trying to win the CL as we need to be better than last season.

If we get him, which it looks increasingly likely, and we get him back to even a semblance of his pre-injury form then it'd be absolutely amazing.

I seem to recall Cesc praising our medical team for sorting him out and giving him a second lease on his playing ability, makes me wonder if we can do the same for Falcao.

Cesc wasn't crocked before he arrived though.

Falcao has been gash for over a year now.

Also Falcao isn't injured anymore, he's just not very good now. Same happened with Torres after a bad injury and our medic team couldn't get him back to his best because simply sometimes there is no coming back.

How similar were Torres's and Falcaos' knee injuries?

Something very fishy about this whole rumour. Report from Marca claims that it’s the same deal as at Man United. We pay all his wages plus 7 million loan fee. That's 22million euros for a one year deal for a crocked 29 year old striker off the back of a terrible season.

Makes no sense whatsoever.

When I see your post, Socrates, I think about the only real Falcao, Paulo Roberto Falcao of that magnificent Brasil team of the 70s and early 80s.  That was one great team, with Junior, Socrates, Falcao, et al.

Falcaos is worse a complete cruciate tear, will never be the same

I was under the impression that wasn't the case with modern medicine. Didn't sportsmen like (off the top of my head) Rob Gronkowski and Adrian Petersen suffer similar injuries? Didn't Xavi suffer a similar injury in 2005 as well?

Wasn't Torres exacerbated (allegedly) by the surgery and rush to get him back? Isn't physiotherapy key to any recovery which in Falcao's case would seem to be successful since he's had no setbacks?

Is that the same as Essien's injury, in which he was never the same?

From memory (so probably wrong) Essien had two bad knee injuries, one in each knee. Think the second one was worse because he suffered damaged meniscus as well and the first was a torn MCL.

Knee injuries are a complex issue because a lot is down to how players recover mentally, and how they rehab the injury. Torres was apparently a lesson in how not to rehab a knee injury.

My view is that it's too simplistic to say that a player is 'never the same' after such an injury because it really does vary and the medicine is changing so rapidly.

Just wondering your guys perspective on what this move would do for Bamford. He'll turn 22 in September and is yet to taste any Premier League experience. Third choice striker or Loan move to a Prem side?

Solanke on the other hand has time on his side.

Stinks of the agent making this happen to trouser another pay day

The only difference with Sheva & Torres is that this bloke knows hes joining to play 3rd fiddle, says a lot about the

man and his dramatic fall from grace that he is willing to take a big payday with minimal expectations from us the fans,

just to keep his image in the public eye, not the profile of player I would expect Jose to sign,

but perhaps its not about his ability- its about who represents him

Watch him bag 20 goals for us now

He'll probably go on-loan to a PL team and that'll be the best in all likelihood because he needs minutes.

But if he wanted a 'big payday' wouldn't he get that in Monaco?

A lot of the noises suggest that he's willing to take a paycut to stay in England.

I'm hoping that Bamford will go on loan to a PL side. It's a shame that Middlesbrough didn't win the playoff because that would have been perfect for him.

Falcao clearly regretting the Monaco move, was lured in by the false promise of their "project" and the money on offer.

If United and Chelsea have both been willing to take him on, even on loan, there must still be something there to suggest he can recapture some of the form of his Porto and Atletico days.

I remain cynical but if this does happen I'll support him and the decision to sign him.

See, I can agree on this but I can also see the other side. We lost Cole and sold Bertrand so did signing Luis have that much of an effect on FFP? I'm not sure. It's still bizarre having Luis there because he doesn't have resale value but the issue was who else could we have got? Rodriguez possibly, but maybe Luis was simply a stopgap until DaSilva matured to the point he could be backup, or even Ake.

Good points, but if we keep Remy then you're talking about Falcao being an option as backup to Costa. Would any of those guys be happy coming in knowing Costa was number one?

When he won the league in 2011/12 with Madrid he had Higuain & Benzema has his options and started with one on top. Costa' hammy had to be managed, he will accumulate cards/get sent off and personally I think he needs some competition for his place. He was fantastic in the league but once he got suspended and came back, he looked out of sorts (did he score in the CL?). There are rumours Manduzick might be for sale, Higuain probably wants out of Napoli also, and closer to home Benteke wants CL footy. It is too early in the window to be settling for Falcao and the others players we have been linked with; Douglas Costa and Miranda are not going to get us closer to Madrid, Barca, Bayern in Europe.

Once again, I tend to agree with what you're saying  (the last bit most certainly) but I think Costa, Remy and Falcao can be a tremendously solid set of striking options that also don't block the young guys path to the first-team. One of Solanke, Abraham or Bamford HAS to make it here and neither Remy or Falcao is likely to be a long-term option. Benzema, Higuain and maybe even Mandzukic would all require a long-term commitment (3 years+).

If Falcao is just a loan then that gives us a chance to reassess in 12 months, especially with Remy entering the final year of his contract (although how many months that actually is could be under dispute :laugh2: ).

I've said this elsewhere, but I'd much rather we stick with Costa and Remy and give the 3rd spot to Bamford.

Blindingly obvious that costa and remy not enough to win cl given injury history. We talk correctly about falcaos knee injury but cost as hammy is an ongoing issue more likely to get worse than better.

How do we know it will get worse?

This season was the first time Remy has suffered with persistent injuries so that looks to be a one off

Absolutely agree. I have far more worries about Costa's hamstrings than Falcao's knees.

In fact if people really want to compare one of our strikers to Torres, than Costa's hamstring worries over the last 12-18 months are getting worryingly reminiscent of Torres who suffered them at roughly the same age and NEVER recovered.
