Chelsea in for Falcao?

Featured Replies

You bet Utd weren't offered the same deal & declined signing him after having for a whole season. Continues a trend of bizarre signings we have made in recent seasons; buying a backup fullback for £20m, signing Cuadrado on the back of a decent World Cup showing and has Mendes written all over it.

Our transfer policy has been insane since Jose has come in. A complete shift from signing talented young players to signing merchants like Cuadrado. Several questionable signings, and some of them for a lot of money.

People are forgetting we have the best medical department in England.

People are forgetting we have Mourinho as our manager.

He will score on his debut and we'll never look back.

Costa and Falcao have a great relationship too.

Thats more like it, positive vibes, that is the Chelsea way.

They aren't miracle workers. If a player has lost it, they have lost it, there is nothing the club can do to bring that back. Torres and Shevchenko are the perfect examples of this.

No striker could have performed well in the system for us, I have a fear that he's going to bang them in once he's in a team that doesn't have Fellaini as the central creative source...

I remember similar excuses being made for Torres. If you're a great player, you can play in any system. Falcao was that player once before, he ain't anymore.

Seems like it's going to be official soon.

Unless every single media outlet reporting this have jumped the gun based on Marca (even though some have their own independent story) you'd be right i guess

He still showed glimpses at Man U of what he can do, i think he will be a good back up to Costa and think it will be a decent pick-up actually. With Cuadrado proberbly leaving I think Remy & Willian will now rotate on the right wing.

Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Remy. 4 left if Cuadrado leaves, may be a little short. Guess you can add Cesc and Ramires as options but if we get injuries there, especially to Hazard, we may be short on options.

I think the number 10 role is ok with Oscar and Fabregas beeing able to play there. What worries me is that we only have two good options as wingers, Willian and Hazard.

have to pull you up on this statement, as its complete BS.

luis has been kept out by worldie dave, salah made sense at the time and cuardrado hasn't had much of a kick for obvious reasons, however if he (cuadrado) goes that is a genuine balls up but he wont be sold cheap in any case.

i make that 1/2 out of about 10-15 and they still get sold on for decent money/profit (schurrle)

He was never going to bench Dave who in my opinion is better on the right and offers us more balance as a team, Ivanovic despite leaving acres of space behind him seems a key player; why spend £20m on a backup to warm the bench?

Would be fine with this as a loan, see how he does. But 25m for a crocked 29 year old just seems mental.

£8m hit on the books, factor in wages of about £90k/w and that is £12.5m annually for a player with no resale value. Correct me if I am wrong but Hazard's book value was £13.9m and that has gone down with his new contract. Hypothetically Benzema/Lewandowski/Grizemann at £40m & £150k/w wages will have a book value of £15.5m & have ample resale value if it goes wrong.

Not long ago we were known as the graveyard of strikers.

See, I can agree on this but I can also see the other side. We lost Cole and sold Bertrand so did signing Luis have that much of an effect on FFP? I'm not sure. It's still bizarre having Luis there because he doesn't have resale value but the issue was who else could we have got? Rodriguez possibly, but maybe Luis was simply a stopgap until DaSilva matured to the point he could be backup, or even Ake.

Good points, but if we keep Remy then you're talking about Falcao being an option as backup to Costa. Would any of those guys be happy coming in knowing Costa was number one?

VIALLI

“Knowing how good Mourinho is at getting the best out of his players, and Falcao is an extraordinary striker, they will be even stronger”

“Can he play with or instead of Diego Costa? I don’t know.

"But definitely the more great players you have in your side, the better.”

This is making me sick.    No way should  we sign Falcao.    It shows to me Mourinho's biggest shortcoming, in his inability to trust in our younger players.  He will never learn.

dave is world class on both flanks imo, fact is no one thought dave would be so epic, esp 2 seasons in a row considering the fee etc, also the bane is getting on. what i would say is that he was very expensive but again if you want the best/flavour of the year it don't come cheap.

i also think your forgetting the old strength and depth philosophy.

just because cuardrado and luis haven't played much, Doesn't mean they are flops IMO.

if it aiint broke, don't fix it
