Arsenal v. Chelsea (PL) 26/04/2015 KO: 16:00 GMT

Featured Replies

The club were close to bankruptcy, and in 1910 went into voluntary liquidation before being bought out by a consortium of businessmen; the largest shareholder amongst the new owners was the property magnate Sir Henry Norris, who was also the chairman of Fulham

Norris was acutely aware of the problems associated with Woolwich Arsenal's location, and was desperate to improve the club's income. First, Norris tried to merge Woolwich Arsenal with his other club, Fulham. When that was blocked by the Football League, Norris abandoned the merger and looked to move the club elsewhere, eventually picking a site in Highbury, north London. Despite objections both from Woolwich-based fans and residents of Highbury. Norris tenaciously saw the move through. He reportedly spent £125,000 ( Historic Opportunity cost of that project is £12,530,000.00, Labour cost of that project is £42,450,000.00, Economic cost of that project is £88,070,000.00) on building the new stadium, designed by Archibald Leitch, on a divinity college's playing fields. Woolwich Arsenal moved there in the 1913 close season, having finished bottom and relegated to the Second Division in 1912

Not to give that pretentious twat any more attention (yes I spotted the irony in me saying that) but his point is essentially that he can't understand how someone could be proud of their team's history unless it's filled with trophies.

That's such a gloryhunting view isn't it?

He mocks the 1994 Cup Final loss, but we were in the relegation places at the start of that season. Yet we got all the way to Wembley before David Ellery robbed us losing to the best team in the land. If you want organic growth then look at how we exploited the Bosman ruling to go from the pissing rain of that day to become Champions League competitors just 5 years later.

And there's tons of stuff that people proudly talk about before that. I grew up hearing about the 1970 cup final, about celebrations on the King's Road after the 1971 CWC triumph, about how our supporters SAVED this club when it could've gone under, of legends like Ossie, the Cat, Chopper, Bentley, Greaves, Wilkins, Cooke, Dixon etc.

There might not be statues of these greats (Ossie excepted) and there might not be trophies to reflect each of their achievements but every time you go to the Bridge you're walking in the footsteps of those who came before and you share that connection with millions of people through a love of this club. That's something we should each be proud of.

He's a fool whose shown himself to be nothing but a gloryhunting ignoramus, who doesn't seem to understand the basics of what it is to be a football supporter. For all the stick people like Claude get on that channel, they live and die by that club and would be there no matter what. That's admirable.

So don't mock him, don't give him any more attention and if you do happen to be assailed by one of his 'rants' (epic or otherwise) then treat him how he should be treated.

With pity.

Their fans were confident before the game, make no mistake- they genuinely thought they were going to put it on us yesterday and that is why they are all pissing and moaning about 'boring chelsea' now. They thought they were good enough to do what Man United couldn't last week.....they weren't. Cry me a river. "That nasty Mourinho didn't let us win". Boo f**king hoo. Seeing that prize bellend on the Arsenal fans channel just makes it even better. Sour grapes much? Hahahaha

The fact we had more shots on goal, the best chance of the game and two credible penalty shouts (one a stone waller) is just a rather amusing side dish.

The best bit of the day for me was just taking over the Emirates once again. Not sure what their fans must have made of the 1000 or so Chelsea fans camped outside the away end for a good 30 minutes after the game singing the Fabregas song on repeat. When I left I walked to Highbury & Islington station which took me around the other side of the ground and no word of a lie you could still hear it from there, it was relentless.

Not one bit of resistance from the Arsenal fans. Not even a bit of banter back in return. They were probably all too busy giving interviews to ther Arsenal fans channel, crying about our negative tactics and any other rubbish they could think up to try and deflect from the fact they failed to beat Mourinho once again.

What a day.

Arsenal were being built up in the media as being able to beat us and their fans happily believed it ! :laugh2:

As Mr T used to say on 'The A Team'    " I pity the fools ! "

The chelsea fan at 5:10 showing a picture of Drogba celebrating with the CL Trophy. :laugh2:

I've finally relented and 'watched' the red box that keeps popping up. Ffwd most of it as, well, what a crock. The guy doesn't understand the word parasitic and has a severe case of verbal diarrhoea which he's sprinkled with 'glittery' words to dupe folk into thinking he can offer an informed opinion. Moving on ...

If you actually get past the vitriol and bitterness and listen to his arguments, they're hilariously bad. He doesn't seem to have done any research into post-Soviet Russia, confuses Putin with Yeltzin, ignores his own club's history, misrepresents our's and I too am confused by the use of the word parasitic.

Unambitious maybe, but parasitic? I think you've nailed him with that assessment. He's had a little bit of fame/infamy and seems to be positioning himself as a 'voice of the fans'.

With the choice between him and Piers Morgan, you have to feel sorry for Arsenal fans.  :laugh2:

as blue daze said, a jcl if ever there was one...the 'lack of history' argument is the worst any one can ever use in a football debate...I don't care if you're Barnet, Colchester, Man utd or Tranmere,, every club has a history...trophies are a sign of success, not winning any/many doesn't make you obsolete...I'd support cfc regardless, just as I did when they were winning fcuk all for years...not sure the dimwits who argue about history, many of whom happened to start supporting their team when they were on top, can say the same

Something else that's bugged me, notice how Arsenal players have been praised for doing a few cheap fouls to stop our breakaways at the end of the game? Can't help thinking of that we're us we'd be crucified for anti football.

Surely existing as a club for 110 years is "historic".

Echoing what others have said, when opposition fans say "you've got no history". What exactly do they mean? If it's winning things, well we won domestic and European trophies before Roman arrived.

It's up there with the parking the bus "insult". It's become this weird go to attempt at an insult and belittling the club's achievements.

But as always we don't care and merrily go on with loving our club and laughing at those who despise us through their jealously.

The trophies = history mantra is gloryhunter's logic, coming from someone who, judging by his age, started supporting a team that had recently won leagues and cups and had Ian Wright and Dennis Bergkamp playing for them. Yeah, I'm sure it was just an accident he chose Arsenal instead of Barnet.

Makes me laugh when the 'no history' line is thrown around by fans who are clearly ignorant of their own club's past. The unsanitised version anyway. No Arsenal fan with any self-awareness would have the nerve to mention boring football after the stuff they served up for years.

Love this on football365 re the boring boring chelsea

"That was the chant ringing around the Emirates after the final whistle had sounded. That was the message to the players in blue who dared to celebrate the rubber-stamping of their first Premier League title in five years.

The home support were angry that Chelsea had come for a point and got that point. "Booo! Achieving your goals, boooo! And you've got more points than anyone else. Boooo! We wanted goals and you didn't score any. Booo! We won't mention the fact that we were incapable of doing so either and actually only had one shot on target. Booo!"

Presumably the fans who chanted against Chelsea's aesthetics are a new breed of Arsenal supporter? Certainly not the same ones who triumphantly chanted "1-0 to the Arsenal" in the George Graham years, that's for sure. Because that would be incredibly one-eyed.

Were those same fans chanting "Boring, boring Arsenal" in 1997/98 under Arsene Wenger, too? That's when a team containing Ian Wright, Dennis Bergkamp, Marc Overmars, Emmanuel Petit, Nicolas Anelka and Patrick Vieira scored 19 goals in 16 league games between November and March on their way to winning the league? Were they left embarrassed by their club keeping 12 clean sheets in 14 matches late on in that season? Did they vomit in the stands following their fifth 1-0 win in six matches, the other being a 0-0 draw with West Ham?

I'm going to go ahead and guess that they didn't. Which is probably because they were deliriously happy that their club was going to win the league. Nothing else mattered, and nor should it.

"But they only came for a point," you can sniff, muttering something about football aesthetics as if the style of another team affects something deep inside your soul. I can just about understand people getting annoyed about their own team's strategy, but that of another team? No."

Ha ha well said

It's the league winners thing that get's me.

They bang on about it as if we have only ever won or challenged for it when Roman came in which is clearly untrue as we did win it 50 years before hand...but that doesn't count because it proves the 'no history' argument false before it even gets started.

Winning FA cups and European trophies also before Roman came around is also a clear lack of history I suppose...

It's sheer jealousy and envy from those who use this, it's the only thing they think they can get over on us.

Oh I almost forgot- must give a mention to the Arsenal fan in the upper tier above the away fans who decided to disrespect the minutes silence for the Bradford fire tragedy and shout 'Fabregas is a w**ker' at the top of his voice.

Now Arsenal fans are essentially the self appointed 'class police' and have been for a while. Their the first to try and dismiss Chelsea fans of having 'no class' and they even have a banner in their library which reads 'You can't buy class'.

If you see any Arsenal fans on twitter (they take cringe levels to an all time high) they can barely get through a tweet without some reference to history or class.

So, this is rather embarrassing for a fanbase which takes the moral high ground on the matter of 'class'. Yes it was just one idiot, but can you imagine the outrage from their lot of the roles were reversed?

Well done Arsenal- you continue to be a running joke.

Whereas there were at least 50000 Chelsea fans on that Metro train.

Best away day of the season. Don't know who came up with the Fabregas song but I take my magic hat off to him!

Boring? Only Manchester City have scored more goals than us, we've got the most wins, points and the biggest goal difference, so Arsenal fans, why don't you just:

:happy001:

Any news on the concussion yet?

@ChelseaFC: Jose: 'Oscar left the hospital and stayed at home last night. He should be here today. Everybody will travel to Leicester.' #CFC
