Petr Cech to Arsenal

Featured Replies

Listening to Bob Wilson on TalkSport. He thinks Cech is the 3rd best keeper in the world, and reckons Thibaut is the best & better than Neuer.

Also said he thinks Cech will be able to do another 7 seasons at least.

Just noticed a couple of accounts awaiting validation.

PeterCechsMagicHat and CECHFOR11MILLION

Looks like we need to brace ourselves for some immature goonies signing up to gloat about buying a player from us.

To them I say:

Choose your words carefully.

Yeah and Ashley 'I won everything with Chelsea' Cole says Hi too.

Bob Wilson is chatting sh*t.

EDIT:

I'll expand, Courtois is a very solid goalkeeper no question but he made more mistakes in his debut season then I ever remember Cech making in a full season, he's still a long way off being regarded the best.

To say he is better than Neuer, a player that has almost single-handed revolutionised the sweeper/keeper role is just ridiculous.

To suggest Big Pete is the 3rd best is very questionable given that he barely played last season and that De Gea in particular has a very commanding season.

It was Courtious that said Cech has knee and back problems. That, along with Arsenal's awful doctors might play a part in how much he plays.

Be interesting to see if there's any truth to what Courtious said. Maybe the club know something that we don't.

Why has blue Daze been banned? Hopefully it will stop the endless arguing. Think he spoke sense at times, but he would rarely back down in an argument, to the it became predictable.

All too often he would start discussion by stating he was "on the fence" though, and then he would wait to see which way the majority opinion swung, before going against that majority and nitpicking with argument. The falcao thread in rumours being the prime example of "im on the fence", before vehemently wading in knee deep into incessant nitpicking argument. I have apologised to all on here for polluting previous threads by rising to it, and i'll apologise again. Now we can get back to logical discussion.

Anyway. Cech.

It's hard to see how he will automatically drive arsenal forward to the realm of title challengers. That said, i do think that arsenal will represent our nearest rivals next season. For me, united are still a mile away from being the finished article and they are just rudderless, their recruitment policy just being a scatter gun of cash thrown in the direction of any big name available, and i dont think they will challenge next season.

City are in dire need of a restructuring, too many fringe players, but if they can build around their core of aguero, silva, hart, zaba and kompany, then they obviously will be in the mix. i think city will have a transitionary season in 2015/16.

Arsenal are a concern for me, although i dont think wenger will buy in the positions he needs to buy. I think their CM is lacking entirely, and both full backs could do with an upgrade. they do have a potentially excellent CB pairing in kosc and gabriel though, so if they can add to their CM position as a priority then yes, they will be up there.

I just hope that we can build on what we have achieved. when city won the league title in 2012 they made the mistake of not strengthening that summer, and their title defence was as weak as piss  in 2012/13. I can appreciate us going in for the likes of song to add depth, but for me, we really do need another two top class signings to keep things fresh and to up the squad competition.

i had hoped for griezmann and schneiderlin. im not so sure we will go for, or get, either.

early days though but i had high hopes given our killer instincts in the market last summer where we moved quickly. we seem a bit more pedestrian this time around and there doesnt seem to be any significant urgency

Think you are wrong in how cech would react to us sticking to a price of 15-20mill for him Davey.

Endnotes the day Roman is being good as gold to him at the moment. Overruling Jose and allowing him to join a direct title rival, he is even not insisting on Jose's request to get a player from arsenal in exchange.

If Petr sees arsenal are not willing to pay a fair fee or negotiate with us, he could see it that they do not really want him, rather than him being mad with us.

11mill is not much money to Chelsea these days.

Don't forget Petr had 50 stitches in his face after that collision with Ben Hiam ouch. An outstanding keeper and a Chelsea legend but i think his best days are behind him. Mainly due to lack of games i'd put him behind Theo, De Gea, Lloris and Hart. Don't forget he will have a far inferior back four in front of him next season.

Cech has been fantastic. The level of performance and consistency he's shown during his time here is staggering. Plus, he's a level-headed and intelligent guy; just the type I would want in the dressing room. He'll be rightly remembered as a symbol of the most successful decade (in terms of trophies) in our history.

Yet, as the club recognises, the hard-headed and right move is to sell. It's not sensible to have two premium keepers on the wage bill, especially when the younger keeper is first choice. The sensible choice is to cash in on a valuable asset, who will surely depreciate in value quite rapidly as he moves into his mid-30s. Selling early in the window gives us time to make a measured decision on who to bring in as our back-up keeper, rather than having our hands forced by a late sale. Plus, whoever we choose as back-up will have time to integrate into the squad, which might not be the case if we sold Cech late in this window (or in the January window).

Should it be to Arsenal? I don't think this transfer would happen under ordinary circumstances. But we've decided to reward Cech with the move he prefers (staying in the same city in a truly competitive league). And we should acknowledge that £11M is good money for a 33 year old keeper. I don't particularly like it, but I'll live with this transfer.

i'd put him behind Theo, De Gea, Lloris and Hart.

Even in his minimal appearances he has looked better than lloris and hart. I know we want to feel better about ourselves but lets not start acting like Cech is suddenly some second tier keeper.

Well of course we all have to live with it but I just think we as a club could have done a little bit more to benefit ourselves a little here.

They needed a world class keeper badly and we had one, we look like we were interested in a Walcott or OX so I do think we should have pushed with this and it would also have backed up Jose’s word…selling for cash with no player will not reflect well on Jose who made his feeling clear on the issue.

It does stick with me that we seem to sell our players to clubs around us with minimum fuss but when we go for a Rooney or Walcott we get nowhere and it’s made clear the club won’t be entertaining any bids. It’s nice being seen as the club who does best by their players but I just think we should be looking after our own interests before any players as the club should always come first.

I see your point. But when have we been in a position where a rival club has committed to a move for one of our top players? When we moved for Rooney, we were moving for United's figurehead. This is more equivalent to United moving for Hazard, and definitely not equivalent to Arsenal moving for Cech. At what point could we have kicked up a fuss and shouted "we're not entertaining any bids!" if rival clubs don't try to buy our top players? The only example I can think of is Mata. In my view, we got a very, very good price for Mata and the club was right to sell.

Edit: Wait, I can think of another example. City moved for Terry in 2009 and as the Guardian reported:

"Those remarks will inevitably go down badly at Stamford Bridge at a time when Chelsea are aggressively trying to repel City's advances and have not wavered from their public stance that Terry is not available at any price."

Those of you saying we should dig in our heels and demand 20mil or refuse to do business, how do you think that would play out?

Believe me, it wouldn't play out well for us.

Maybe we can squeeze a few more million out of Arsenal and get something approaching 15mil but it's not really going to make any difference, is it?

A couple of million here or there means f**k all.

ladies and gentleman it would appear yet again that because Blue Daze goes to matches he's more of a fan than those that don't and it's only his opinion that matters.

Why can you not stick to the debate in the thread, but keep on with you childish rants at BD, if you have to rant at BD take it off thread by way of PM.

I totally agree. Lots of people - including Petr Cech - don't understand that loyalty and honour are extremely important virtues. Why do so few people in the modern world respect morals?  It's highly immoral for Petr to turn his back on Chelsea FC and choose to join Arsenal.

Petr Cech, as much as he was a great goalkeeper for Chelsea, isn't a man of honour. He should have a bond with CFC that makes him fully aware that going to Arsenal would be a severe act of betrayal. Instead, he's not happy to be the 2nd choice goalkeeper, so in an act of spite, he joins Arsenal. It's disgusting.

People will make excuses for Petr, but they're all airy-fairy and fail to appreciate the gravity of the situation. There aren't any credible excuses to be made for Petr. He was at a huge, succesful club, and adored by the fans. He was earning good money and was an important, much loved part of the Chelsea family.  Him choosing to go against Mourinho's wishes and betray Chelsea FC, is something no Chelsea fan should forgive.

Almost thought that was going to end with a climatic ending "he has betrayed us and our family and mercy shall not be granted to you, Petr, so in the name of Chelsea Football Club, we sentence you to death"

Pssssst, Blue Daze is banned. This is just dragging things on that have now ended.

Yes now he is was not when I posted bit behind catching up.

Lloris is clearly in the same ball park as Cech and Courtois. He just does not have JT in front of him, thats all.

Putting Hart in this list on the the other hand is simply laughable.

Was waiting for you to follow. Of course it was all me wasn't it Blue Daze I mean erm MBH.
