Got the tactics a spot on against Barca. Give Barca their due though, they are probably one of the greatest teams many of us are ever likely to see. 

 

No team is unbeatable, but there aren't many teams that you can only beat by completely changing your game, defending deep and looking to hit them on the counter.

Messi, Suarez, and Neymar are undoubtedly the best front three in world football, but when it isn't working you go route one. Same old Barca, no plan B.

That was peak Chelsea level defending from Atletico. We sold Bertrand for Filipe then sold him to keep Ivan at RB, I weep.

 

Crazy decision's at the club in recent season's. Too many hugely talented players have been sold. Give me the players over the money any day.

 

It horribly reminds me of Arsenal. We got rid of the strength and power for weaker players that like to pass the ball endlessly and sold quality players because of the money on offer.......it hasn't worked for Arsenal for the last 10 years, why did the club think it would work for us ?

Not only didn't Atleti lose the first game after a sending off messed up their tactics, they totally outplayed Barcelona. Atleti don't generally have more possession than the opposing teams but they usually have more shots on target. No idea about the statistics tonight but for all Barcelona's nice build up, Atleti are more direct.

Possession doesn't win football games. Pep will likely hammer this league if he's given the finances but he will need a plan B in this league.

Yeah, i'm struggling to feel sorry for them.

Barcelona fans are crying now about the referee.....

 

Barcelona won games only because of the referees! I'm so happy to see them out, hopefully they will lose the La Liga's title as well.

I feel terrible for them.

True. Plan A is pretty special, but plan B seems to be 'push Pique up front'.

 

Maybe they'll be in for Andy Carroll in the summer.

He was too good to be a back-up and he's gone back to a great team. Our mistake was not replacing him with someone of similar or even comparable quality.

Wow, watching Atletico was like how we used to play v barca with the old guard...defending of highest quality and brilliant on the break, fans up for it, Jose/Hiddink/Robbie going mental on the sidelines...what a contrast to current bunch...also that was the Luis I thought we had bought in 2014..can moan he didn't play enough, but I never saw him play with that much intensity and commitment either

Yep, too many hindsight reactions now...admittedly I made a comment about de Bruyne and Oscar last night, but I have consistently moaned about Oscar for years!

Luis never played for us like he did for Atletico and few moaned when he was sold...in fact most moaned he was signed to begin with when Bertrand was sold to Southampton

Redemption For Torres, now he gets another chance, and he is playing well for Atleti...

Is it looking like City's name is on this? Like us, far from the best team in Europe but just doing enough and getting it right when it counts? With the Pep bit thrown in it looks like it's set up perfectly for them. I fancy they'll win it now.

Would've been shocked to see Barca go through, thought Atleti had their number last week and so it proved.

Obviously anything is possible, but they're still the worst team out of the four

Aside from Chelsea, Altetico is probably my second favourite team in the world. They are just a well drilled machine, fun to watch when they are playing well, yet finding ways to win ugly when it mattered. 

You just know there are two finals guaranteed. It will either be:

Bayern vs City (the pep situation)

Atletico vs Real (derby)

I think it will end up being the madrid derby in the final.
