John Stones

Stones jumping over the ball yesterday for the Barnsley Goal has 4 outcomes most of them potentially bad if I didn't miss any:

He did it on purpose and we get him - good

He did it because he is crap, we get him - bad

He did it on purpose, we don't get him - bad

He did it because he is crap, we don't get him - bad/good

Excuse my potential ignorance, but does Stones have a buyout release clause?

I don't think we can have release clauses in the UK, they are more for Spain and their tax rules I think.

I low how the Everton fans who post here continually ignore that Martinez did the same with Lukaku. Evertonians why ignore this?

The one that makes me laugh is them slagging us off for bidding for him, its wrong that he wants to move to a club higher in the pecking order......erm didn't they buy him from Barnsley, which is the same thing? I`m guessing they put a bid in for him, which we did. Whats the difference?

The lad needs to grow some balls though. We can't have a sniffling kid at CB because José is a tough manager. He needs to man up asap.

Cmon, hes what - 20?

The pressure he is under is intense. From being abused by your own fans and then a few hours later being hassled by some at a service station of all places , I'm not surprised he broke.

2 and 4 are the same.

If he has been upset by fans asking what's going on then withdraw request.

If it's he board who made him do it as one tweet said hen martinez may have hands tied

I think Martinez's posturing is basically him covering his own arse, so if he's sold then he can say he fought to keep him but it was out if his hands etc.

Doesn't look like you're getting him after all, does it?  I'm glad. I'm not hugely surprised a few drunk idiots abused him, but the reception for him was overwhelmingly positive from the 5k away fans (even though he had a bad game, which is understandable).

Will you move on to another target now then, or just not sign anyone for that position?

It's the same situation as it's always been.

He could still move.

What's clear is he will move on from Everton ASAP, he clearly wants to better himself at a bigger and better club be it now, January or next summer.

From Everton's perspective it makes sense for Stones to stay for at least another season, it's unlikely his perceived value will depreciate (so Everton can say they don't need to sell).

Yeah Everton are clearly willing to keep unhappy players who want out.

That's up to them but when that little rat faced twat Martinez starts his bubbling to the media about clubs acting inappropriately he should really take a look in the mirror and remember he done the exact same thing with Lukaku.

Chelsea didn't bitch and moan, nor did we hold a player against their will. Chelsea have class.....Everton have Martinez.

Hard to say, but from the looks of things we put all our eggs in one basket (again) and we will probably not sign anyone else

gonna make a £45 million offer apparently. i think another reason things are being held up is also due to the fact that everton lose 15% of the fee; they are going to want a similar fee to what pool got for sterling.

We don't need a CB in any case.

Stones was for the future and to learn off the best CB in EPL history.

We require a midfielder far more than a CB.

we won't struggle as much as people think without another cb. we have cahill, terry, zouma and even ivanovic. heck we could even play chalobah (depeding on what happens with him). we have just as good a defence as any team in europe tbh, so not sure why it would be a catastrophe if we didn't sign a cb. who is the black youngster who plays at cb in the youth team?

Agreed, we won't struggle... but we may not excel either - Cahill, Terry and Brano can be exposed with a high defensive line, so I think it will somewhat limit Mou's options, i.e. we may need to sit back and counter instead of playing a 'pressing game'.

ivanovic isn't slow, it's just he's not fast enough for the rb role. i would prefer to see him at cb as he isn't quick enough for right wing back.

right back - aina/azpi

centre back - terry, ivan, cahill, zouma, chalobah

left back - azpi/baba

What has changed, exactly ?

Regardless of the money we offer Everton, Stones is not leaving this window (it appears)...Everton have backed themselves firmly in the corner now with Martinez's comments regarding money can't buy everything...well he and the Board will now look absolute prats if they sell to us now and will get some serious stick from their fans....if it wasn't bad enough already with the all the banners flying around it, surely will only get a lot worse if they sell.

I think its time to look at the other options we have as Plan B........there is a plan B right?
