John Stones

Featured Replies

I did say that I would stay off this a couple of days ago, but I met an old schoolmate after the Spuds game last night, he now lives in South Africa but comes back a few times a season. He has made a fortune in SA and his company has sponsored Everton for a long time, he's obviously well connected within the club and after a few jars told me what he knows about the Stones situation.

We did agree a deal before the City game, but Browning's injury changed things, Martinez had Mori lined up and with Browning being a CB (he was covering at LB for Baines) he thought we had enough cover and was promised the Stones money for a few signings. He told the board that if the Stones deal went through he would be off, the board caved in, which angered Chelsea and Stones agent threw a fit, pushed him to put in a TR to force it through, which then meant that Kenwright had to go public and say he's not for sale. Bottom line is that Stones is ok with staying for now, but has assurances that he can go, maybe as soon as January. The story about the Barnsley sell on is rubbish and he moved out of home to get away from the media, there may be one or two neanderthals hanging around, but it's the press he's trying to get away from.

Strange atmosphere at WHL yesterday, Spurs fans booing Stones and a few kids singing a Beatles song, all a bit embarrassing but nothing malicious at all. It was odd that Stones came over and clapped us at the end, we weren't quite sure what to make of it. I still think there may be a twist in the tale, but it will probably depend on Martinez being placated somehow. For all those having a pop at RM he's only doing his job and is being pinned down on Stones every time he's anywhere near a microphone (which is too often for my liking).

Sorry but this is utter rubbish.

Clearly on a wind up; Browning wasnt even injured. It was Galloway. He is out for 2 weeks. Hardly likely to hold up a deal.

Your making rubbish up.

^^^ word salad.

Move on, nothing to see here, just like the 100 pages Falcao thread we had here 2 years ago.

Well said! Move on as I suggested 2 weeks earlier. If Everton had ever suggested a price (never happened) then it was up to Chelsea to match it or at least come up with something near the valuation. Instead it was decided by someone at your club to unsettle a young man by informing the media prior to each and every stage of your bidding process thus angering all concerned At EFC.

It was decided at a very early stage not to even enter into discussions over the sorry matter.

Only one club "dicked around" at their own expense.

I agree with some that Chelsea may be back at a later date but think you will see a totally different approach.

I will leave you with one last thing to ponder,

Do you honestly believe you were the only club interested?

The only other club in the world that might want him and could afford him is United, and no I don't think United were in for him as someone would have reported it given that every attempt they've made to go for a player has been leaked even if it was unsuccessful.

Don't misquote me!

of course the 2 clubs have talked, that's why it's been dragged on forever and we kept bidding for Stone. We 'unsettled' a young man? Where the f* you got this idea from? We made a bid per normal, and never directly talked to your unsettled young man. Did our manager talk like Matinez last season about Lukaku? f* some of you got short memories. He made a transfer request, that's says it all, we didn't threaten him like some of you mobs. Both clubs clicked, you holding out for some ridiculous fee which you are entitled to, that's why I want our Club to move on from this madness.

Stone is going, if not by Tuesday, if will by January, or end of the season. You are keeping a player that wants to go, have fun with that.

United were bent over for fellaini after having the audacity to offer pennies for baines in a joint deal. They now know better!

As for rumours in the papers you should know better too. Red herrings are thrown into the mix to expose inside informants. on many an occasion regarding stones information was passed to all and sundry with no respect given to a proud institution.

Misquote? I agreed with you! Make your mind up when he's going please but then again I think the powers that be at my club will decide if and when he goes!;-)

Let Stones and any other players stay there and rot in mediocrity....England Captain...now Martinez is taking the piss; he really is full of his own piss and importance and is a self promoting tosser  :indifferent0018:  And I said I wasn't going to say another word but that man is irritating me now.

United don't need him. City just signed Otamendi. We're the only logical option, or he'll choose to stay at Everton.

Funny part is he already chose to leave. Next summer will be very interesting. If we sign Laporte, we wont be in dire need of a CB as we are now, not a chance we'll pay more than we've already offered. Lets see if he asks to go again. If not I think its safe to assume he's happy to stay at Everton for a long time. In which case do we really want someone who isnt interested in CL football.

The bit about England captain is hilarious, he isnt even captain of his club. But what else can we expect Roberto to say?

Stones lacks ambition. You can't be such a weakling, if you want to get a move up in your career. If Johnny can't handle pressure like that, then he's not ready to handle pressure playing at a club like Chelsea. Let him be, at this point Everton is exactly his level.

Sterling is even younger and he knew exactly what he wanted and couldn't care less what anybody else thought. Stones is a child, who needs coddling. "He didn't mean to hand in the TR" - yeah, I'm sure it was all an accident. Martinez is just a clown, calling him "a true Evertonian", he was bought from Barnsley, you idiot.

Harsh on Stones that. He knows where he wants to play but unfortunately the economics of it just aren't there right now. His day will come.

He didn't act like Sterling because he has decency and respect, and we can't argue with that.

Spitting your dummy out should never be rewarded! This only goes on to breed a spoilt personality. Well said bjd. An extra season with us and you will have some player on your hands!

After everything is said and done, it's business. If Martinez fails this season and will drive Everton closer to the relegation zone than to the Europa league place, he'll be out on his ass. If he does even better than expected and overachieves, and a bigger richer club than Everton offers him a managerial position, he'll jump ship in a minute, like he did when he left Wigan for Everton. Whelan said at the time that "He (Martínez) feels he's not the man to lead us back into the Premier League" (he was the right man to get them relegated, that's for sure).

If Stones gets seriously injured tomorrow or has a string of poor performances, loses form etc etc and will eventually become your run-of-the mill average PL defender and Everton will find someone better, they'll sell him and bring in a replacement and those precious fans whose feeling he'd hurt would forget him the next day. None of that decency, respect, true Evertonian spirit and whatever the hell else would matter. Players are commodities for the clubs and it's business at the end of the day. If you don't look out for your own interest, no one else would, and sometimes it means making tough decisions that some people may not appreciate.

If Stones stays with Everton, he will simply become the next Ryan Shawcross. A player who was always linked with a bigger move and on the fringes of the England team to become just your average premier league defender and fail to live up to any potential.

Martinez is hampering Stones' progression because 1) Martinez is hopeless and 2) preventing him leaving and filling his head with all this 'Everton are the perfect club' nonsense. Young players like Stones need to be thrown into champions league games and tested against the very best clubs and playing against numerous different styles of football into the bargain.

If he doesn't leave this year then hopefully next. Whether it's us or someone else, he has to move in order to fulfil his potential as Everton will never be a champions league team.

Good post Ambramovich. Players are in and out of fashion quickly - sometimes within a couple of months. Plenty of examples - Lennon, Richards, Sinclair to name a few.

One minute your hot property, the next you're on loan somewhere or without a contract.

Stones needs to be careful.

Given the way we've started I wouldn't be so sure about that - the competition for 2nd/3rd/4th this season may go down to the last day imo. I'd guess it's simply a case that Martinez/Kenwright convinced Stones to stay for another season to have a go at making the champions league. Stones will leave if Everton are looking off the pace/mid table come January.
