July 29, 20178 yr Looks like the Candreva rumours have started again...lots of reports saying that Inter will accept a £18m bid for him, and if he goes then manure can kiss their luck goodbye in getting his team mate Perisic...have to say that I'm still not convinced that the board will sanction the purchase of a 30 year old with no resale value...but maybe they'll give Conte anything he wants?
July 29, 20178 yr It won`t be good deal at his age. And for winger, speed is must have and he will start losing hes speed soon. And he was always a average player and play his whole career in Italy. Very risky move with little to gain. I`m very much against this. Edited July 29, 20178 yr by brakeit
July 29, 20178 yr For me it makes a lot of sense. Maybe Oxlade-Chamberlain makes more sense, seeing as he's young and homegrown but it's unlikely Arsenal will sell to us and that he'd want to join considering he wants to be a starter. Inter have to sell for FFP reasons and they don't want to sell Perisic to Utd, because he's far more valuable to them. Candreva has nearly 50 caps for Italy and Inter bought him off Lazio only a year ago for £20m, so he can't be all bad. Maybe not the most exciting transfer but a sensible one I reckon, given the circumstances. What are the circumstances? Well look at our starting line-up today, or rather, look at our bench. No Bakayoko, no Hazard and no Pedro, and we have absolutely no central or attacking midfielders to bring in, if we exclude kids who have never played a first team game for us. That's the reality of our situation. We need reinforcements. If Alonso or Moses had been injured we'd have been even more in trouble. I mean, we'd have absolutely no-one on the bench, no-one at all. Literally not one player apart from an untested kid. The CS is in a week's time and then the season starts a week later. We are seriously threadbare, and remember, Hazard and Bakayoko will miss the first few weeks. Candreva gives us depth. He may not make the first XI stronger, which is what we all want, but he gives us much needed cover in a lot of positions, positions where we badly need it. RWB, LWB, CM and AM. Those turning their nose up at this potential signing need to wake up to our situation. Time is running out before the season starts and who are we going to buy? There may be other players we'd rather have but can we get them? Will we get them? We may get one or two but we're unlikely to get players for every position we need them. Candreva has played for Conte for Italy and knows his methods and what is required, so if both parties want the signing to happen I think it's one we should all approve of. I think he'd be signing primarily as a WB to give competition to Moses, which is no bad thing, but as I've said he would solve the problem of cover in a number of positions which would mitigate the fact our squad is so small. Take out the untested kids and we have a squad of 18 currently, including Christensen, who recently turned 21. That's 15 outfield players with the season starting in two weeks. The only player we're being linked to that would strengthen our first XI is Sandro, and that may well not happen. We need depth or we will be f**ked, particularly with more games this season and our rivals strengthening. We need to make one or two pragmatic choices, and at £18m or whatever the fee is being mooted, I don't see too many better solutions than this guy. If someone can provide me with a better squad player I'd like to hear it but remember it has to be realistic. We need a foot soldier or two the way things stand and I don't see too many better options than Candreva.
July 29, 20178 yr Dave, I am still turning up my nose at this transfer if it happens. He's largely unimpressive for Inter Milan and lacks speed, finesse and can't tackle or read attacks. I would put Musonda ahead of him at the wing positions. As for a right wing back position, that's for the scouts and Emenalo to identify and if they haven't done so by this time, they should be fired.

July 29, 20178 yr He didn`t impress me at all. He shows nothing, just average. No one of Inter was any good, we was crazy bad.
July 29, 20178 yr I was a fan of his game tonight. Given Alonso didn't seem to try at all helped him but I thought he provided good service and circulated the ball well. I'd go as far to say having watched him for Italy last summer. He could actually be an upgrade on Moses.

If you have watched Seria A regularly last season like I did, you would have a different opinion.

I will have to defer to that given you've watched more but I've been impressed by what I've seen. Thing I like the best is that he creates good passing angles in the build up. Really important in that wing back role.

I'll take your word about Inter Milan, as I don't watch them. In fact I've hardly ever seen Candreva play. I know he's not the world's best but he's no mug, if he were he wouldn't have 50 caps for Italy and Inter wouldn't have paid 22m euros for him last summer. Musonda would probably excite us more and would probably be a better impact sub, but as I've said in relation to Batshuayi, you have to know where to be on a football pitch at every moment in the game, with the ball and without it, and I feel in that sense Candreva would be the far stronger option next season. Remember, Musonda returned from loan last winter because he wasn't getting any game-time for Betis, and that had nothing to do with a lack of talent and everything to do with a lack of contribution to the team. I'm not knocking Musonda as I felt he was our best attacker today against Inter and I'd be very pleased if he stayed, but realistically I think Candreva would offer us more over the coming season, all in all. Musonda's ceiling is obviously far higher. Right now I reckon Conte would plump for the worker and the experience, not to mention the versatility. Also, those saying he's too old are wide of the mark I feel. He could be a good squad player for a good few years. Obviously he wouldn't be my first pick and I take people's reservations into account but we have to factor in the circumstances. Having said all this it may be just paper talk and Conte has no intention of signing him.
July 29, 20178 yr I'm sorry, I can't condone chucking 30 million at an aging, Premier League unproven (and frankly not that impressive) Candreva and punting Musonda to the side and likely seeing him leave just like all the rest of the promising youth because they smelt the coffee and saw they'd never get a chance. If we want to truely have a go at the top European sides we need more than hard grafters - we need special players. Musonda could be one of those players. Candreva isn't.
July 29, 20178 yr 31 minutes ago, BordeauxBlue said: Musonda could be one of those players. Candreva isn't. Thing is, Musonda could be one of those players, he isn't yet. At least with a player like Candreva we know what we are getting and we know he will come in and do what ever role is asked of him. Plus, the season is long, so even if he does come in there would still be chances for Musonda to play. I'm with Davey here, I think he could be a good signing because he can play in different positions, which can be handy at times. We need depth players, and he provides that in a number of positions. Also, speed is necessarily the be all and end all of a good winger. Beckham and Figo were two of the best wingers in their era, and they weren't exactly express. Granted, a WB role is a little different to a pure RMF role, but just because you don't have speed doesn't mean you are a bad winger.
July 29, 20178 yr I agree that depth is something we should strive for, but I just don't see Candreva as the level of player we should be going for. Especially if it means that the most talented youngster at the club gets moved on. It's a short term fix and a short sighted policy that might do ok for a season or two but will do us no good in the long run. Just my 2 cents.

July 30, 20178 yr I've seen Inter play a handful of times but this guy has been bang average at best. No wonder Inter have been so poor when they are relying him to play as a winger. I doubt he is even better than Moses...
