Chelsea end long standing partnership with adidas

A little trivial.. never the less, adidas is probably my least favourite sporting apparel brand.

Looking forward to some fresh designs.

On a side note, has anyone noticed that our poor season coincided with losing Samsung as our main shirt sponsor?

This is somewhat concerning, especially considering that in the past year or two Adidas have been part of some of the biggest kit contracts in football (Man Utd, Real Madrid, Bayern).

I hope we have a successor lined up, although as far as I'm aware there are no other companies which are currently part of any deals which are worth more than the £30m/year one we had with Adidas.

I sincerely hope that this split happened because we have managed to negotiate a monster deal with another company rather than because they see us as discardable or because we have fallen out, having protested that they are giving Man Utd and Real far more money.

Adidas ends deal with Chelsea early, ups 2016 outlook

"May 11 German sportswear firm Adidas AG announced on Wednesday it is prematurely ending its partnership deal with English soccer side Chelsea, opening the door to an unnamed rival, prompting it to raise full-year profit forecast.

Adidas said the group's net income from continuing operations is now forecast to increase by around 25 percent in 2016 to a level of around 900 million euros ($1.03 billion), while its operating margin is now projected to increase to a level of around 7.0 percent.

As compensation for early termination of contract, Adidas will receive a payment in 2017 that will already positively impact group's profit in the second quarter, the company said.

In the second quarter Adidas expects a mid-double-digit million euros net income gain. ($1 = 0.8740 euros)"

Who do we go with then? Loved the old Umbro kits but something tells me will probably be Nike or Puma.. Reebok also seem to be splashing the cash in recent years, not arsed anyway as long as we get a good amount of money for it.

I'm not nearly as concerned considering there is quite an emerging market for sports wear brands tackling the traditional giants.

My bet is an ambitious company looking for a global foothold.  We can't presume we are now both sh*t at football and business can we?

They say the new kit supplier will buy out the Adidas contract so I assume they will also upgrade it too, I'm guessing it will be Nike as they seem to be losing a lot of big clubs recently.

I wonder if they knew before designing the new kit, it looks like a farewell pisstake now lol.

Under Armour ? New Balance ?

the design has to be approved by the club; +  the club sets the ideas for the kit as well

Daily Mail uses this opportunity to again to say that the shirt will cost £90 even without name and number before saying the replica is also available for £55, plus printing loads of tweets of outrage on the price and design.

Meanwhile the United kit article reads: Replica is priced at £60..... and an authentic version is available for £90.

When their kit is actually more expensive than ours they manage to paint us in a bad light. Amazing.

Under Armour yep, another one similar in size/growth is BLK.

There is also a number of big brands that are now spreading into other sports not traditionally associated with them, Asics into Cricket for one.

Think the deal will already be done in principle

I would venture Under Armour...a chance to build the american market more.  Also, it sounds like we are terminating the contract early so we surely have someone in mind.  Agree with another poster, bring back the yellow!

The shining light is we aren't forced to have the bloody stripes. My dream.

Based on that reuters article it seems that we are the ones instigating the termination? Hopefully so because surely it would be because we've lined up a massive deal

I'm surprised tbh, but I hope it's Nike. But a bit sad to see Stoke trot out in an Adidas kit but not us.

As others have said, hopefully we will have a monster deal in the pipeline.

I wonder which company has seen a club that is punching above its historical weight and now had its by far worst season in the Roman era and maybe a few years on top of that and has risked this moment to offer a bigger kit sponsorship deal than Adidas? Great news that someone has, but my take on our season from a business perspective is that it's no formality that Chelsea become competitive again. Seems odd to me. I sometimes imagine the conversations going on in the Yokohama boardroom throughout this season.

I'd love to see Le Coq Sportif back as they were the kits I grew up supporting the blues in. Can't see them offering crazy money though.
