Chelsea end long standing partnership with adidas

Featured Replies

Chelsea paying compensation to Adidas to end the deal 6 years early in 2017, allowing them to sign a deal with rival company

They must have an absolute monster of a deal lined up.

If true, that is very good news. Like someone said above, if we can be the flagship team for an up-and-comer then perhaps we can milk them dry.

This will sound incredibly soulless but I really don't give two sh*ts what the kit looks like as long as the home shirt is blue. As long as wearing it allows us to rake in the pennies!

What's Man Utd getting for there current deal? £750mil over 10 years?

We'd want the same/similar and I can't see anyone but Nike offering that.

Anyone know what L'arse get from Puma?

Yep, agreed. The money is far more important, having a nice shirt is just a bonus.

That said, I'd love it if the new partner makes them the Chelsea blue of old, i.e. darker than it is now...

The money from the deal is important, but also having a supplier with the power to put the shirts on shelves in shops of every corner of the globe  (i.e.: Adidas / Nike) is key too.

doubt that about the old blue because isn't our current shade a patented or trademarked blue? Unlikely the club would give that up

Here's the biggest (per year):

  1. MANCHESTER UNITED Adidas £75m 2015-2025
  2. BAYERN MUNICH Adidas £42.5m 2015-2030
  3. REAL MADRID Adidas £34m 2012-2020
  4. CHELSEA FC Adidas £30m 2013-2023
  5. ARSENAL Puma £30m 2014-2019
  6. FC BARCELONA Nike £28m 2008-2018
  7. LIVERPOOL Warrior £25m 2012-2018
  8. JUVENTUS (New) Adidas £20m 2016-2022
  9. AC MILAN Adidas £19 m 2013-2023
  10. PSG Nike £19m 2013-2022
  11. MANCHESTER CITY Nike £15 m 2013-2019

According to Bloomberg.com, Chelsea will be paying a massive €50 million as compensation to Adidas.

Some think that it's Adidas who are hoping to focus solely on one major club in the Premier League in Manchester United. While others believe that Chelsea are frustrated with the lack of quality in recent years' kits and are ready to find a bigger and better deal.

It seems strange to me Adidas would focus on just one club, so I'd guess we've ended it because we've got someone else lined up.

Hopefully it's not New Balance or Under Armour.

Don't wanna have the same kit sponsor as the Dippers and Spuds haha.

That's a load of bollocks. It literally doesn't matter at all to them, and they probably have to sign them off anyway.

Could just be their way of saying they can't afford to supply so many teams with their brand? It wouldn't surprise me if the club isn't actually "paying compensation" (that could just be spin with consideration for the share price). More likely it's what Adidas will save over the remainder of the contract. Maybe.

It's a no brainer that it's US who have finished the arrangement early, as we are paying them compensation, if it were them who wanted to end it then they would be paying us.
And It's also a no brainer that the club has lined up a better deal from someone else otherwise why drop them ??
Like others have said, I'm not bothered the stripes were overtaking the kit anyway.

If the report is right and we are paying a significant sum to end the deal early then the club surely must have doubled the current deal to make it worthwhile doing? If however the new sponsor is buying out the adidas contract and paying us more than the 30m then well done to whoever brokered that deal!
