May 18, 201610 yr I just saw my post on Facebook memories - stomach clenching, nerves etc! I disagree, I think it seems ages ago!
May 18, 201610 yr Author Unfortunately I posted a link to itv's highlights and their second rate coverage...Martyn Tyler has been guilty of a lot of misdemeanors before and since, but he was so brilliant that night, they can be forgiven... Anyway, this is a true reflection of the kind of sheer joy that night brought https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mUIfW64tdNg
May 19, 201610 yr Even after four years, I'm still shaking with disbelief on how we managed to win. One of the club's greatest nights ever.
May 19, 201610 yr Roller coaster of a road to the title, was so satisfying to finally get our hands on it after years of disappointment. The sh*t we put up with in the years beforehand made it all the more sweet.
May 19, 201610 yr Greatest sporting night of my lifeMy Facebook memory popped up today and it was my status from that night. Not just the greatest sporting night of my life but with the exception of my daughters birth....the greatest day of my life. :-DIt was posted about 10 minutes after the finish. . So slightly euphoria induced. :-) Edited May 19, 201610 yr by Blue Exile
May 19, 201610 yr I haven't had the same emotional ride during a football match since, other than actually going to the Bridge for the first time a couple of years later.
May 19, 201610 yr I don't think anything I'll see in football will top the high of that night. Just getting to the final was incredible.. the wins against Barca and Napoli in particular... Neville: Didier Drogba, I'm going to say it now. It is written in the stars Tyler: Well he scored a magnificent header to equalise to send it to extra time. He gave away a penalty, it should have been advantage Bayern, but wasn't. And it's come down to Drogba, who this time, is the fifth penalty taker for Chelsea in the final shootout... He's done it! May 19, 201610 yr So many great memories of the day. Went to the game with a mate of mine who I've known since I was at primary school and he got me following Chelsea. Long coach journeys to and from Munich; the lack of sleep; drinking lots of beer in Munich. When Muller scored for Bayern, I thought, like so many of us, that we weren't going to do it. And then Didier steps up. What a header. And then the penalty shoot-out. As someone wrote in one of the fanzines at the time : 'it was written in the stars.' So much emotion after the final whistle. Seeing people crying with joy and relief. Everyone hugging each other. Goodness knows how many text messages of congratulations I received that night. On the coach home, I enjoyed several whiskies from my hip-flask. Can't beat a single malt to celebrate, And of course, the icing on the cake was stopping Spurs qualify for the following season's CL. I saw a Spurs ST holder a couple of days later and asked him how he was. He mumbled something under his breath. The second word was off. Charming.
May 19, 201610 yr Only team in London with a European Cup. And one of only four clubs to have won all three European trophies. http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/news/newsid=1947872.html
May 19, 201610 yr Great thread indeed, welcome distraction, seems like yesterday. Didi is still doing it, albeit elsewhere. KTBFFH.
May 19, 201610 yr The semi final at Barca and the final are probably why I will always love Gary Neville
May 19, 201610 yr ‘This does not f****** slip now. Listen, Listen. This is gone. We go to Norwich. Exactly the same. We go again,' Oops, wrong match. For the lols though.
May 19, 201610 yr I watched this game down the local boozer with my mate. We were drinking pitchers of cocktails and I was hooned. My yell of joy when Didier sunk that penalty...I will never forget. Never forget 19.05.12
May 19, 201610 yr In a restaurant at my niece's hen-night (yeah, I know) - watching it on my other niece's phone under the table, trying (and failing) to hide the fact from hen-night niece. But by the penalties, we were all clustered round the phone and brought the house down when Didier scored (in fact there is still some debate whether the restaurant asked us to leave or whether we just all spilled out in celebration!). Though as I've said before Chelsea-niece said "it's destiny that Didier will win it for us" and I screamed "no, don't say that, that's what I said about JT in Moscow!".
May 19, 201610 yr I watched this one alone, as the 2008 final I watched with friends. My phone didn't stop ringing after, first person who called me was my brother and I just burst into tears haha. Amazing the emotions football can bring out of you. Edited May 19, 201610 yr by Bobbywoodhogan
