Romelu Lukaku

Just to add, maybe the club have learnt from going so public with stones last season, i wouldnt be suprised if nothing is being leaked our end, and im sure everton wouldnt want it leaked at there end.

Arias almost always plays as a RB, it'd just be like signing a new Azpilicueta to play him out of position..

If it is a LB the club wants it would make more sense for us to jump on Jetro Willems before he goes anywhere else.

Tbh never heard of him. What club does he play for?

I wouldn't put too much stock in what a poster puts in here. For all we know he could have got his wires crossed or the likes.

No smoke without fire comes to mind and loads of places some reputable...some not so much are running with this.

Exactly, we had plenty of Everton fans telling us last year that theres no way we have bid, then theres no way he wants to leave, then he had been bullied into handing in a transfer etc....

Then don't forget, don't forget he "accidentally" handed in his transfer request  :laugh2:

I'm sorry but I really don't like Everton, the way they handle their business I'm not saying I wanted John Stones for how much we bid but they made an absolute mockery of what the player wanted especially for how much money was on offer worth way more than his real value.

Now we've signed Kante a player twice as good in terms of talent for 30 something million yet here is Stones valued at above the 45million we offered them, pathetic little wheeler-dealer club.

Oh yeah, I forgot he accidentally handed in a transfer request  :laugh2:

At this point i hope we get him. Don't see who else is available and we can't go into the season with Costa being the only proven PL-goalscorer. Having Costa, Michy and Lukaku would give us great options.

The problem with the Stones deal was the way Chelsea approached it. A nonsense plan that was devised of small increment bids. Then it all went horrbily public and they stuck to their guns and wouldnt sell to us. Cant blame them to be fair, it was us who handled the whole thing stupidly. Id love to have had the player, Man City will get a (raw) gem and i dont care what they end up paying for him.

Bit harsh having a pop at us @GGG. We have to defend our interests, just like your club does. We're notoriously difficult to get players off, without very large fees.

And 12 months on, we're selling Stones for £10m more than he would've gone for last season, so it doesn't seem like such a stupid move.

I've come in peace, not slagging Chelsea off in any way. Just saying how I see things from our perspective and contributing the bits and pieces we've heard at our end re: the Lukaku deal.

At no point did I ever say that Stones wouldn't leave. All I said is that it would take more than £20-30m, which is the area that you started your bidding at, and that was evidenced by us eventually rejecting £38m.

Yeah its mostly newspapers to be honest but its the times who are saying that we want costa and lukaku together. Whats the problem with having costa and lukaku starting and having michy and traore as the backups? Sell remy to turkey or wherever he was linked to

For me Costa and Lukaku are way to simillar to play alongside eachother. Their both good goal poachers, but their both average target strikers, who struggle to hold onto the ball and their linkup play is not that good either. I will keep saying that Hazard fits alot better as that second striker in a 3-5-2 or 4-2-4/4-4-2, then he does as a winger. With Hazard, Batshuayi and Costa we have enough coverage, atleast when we are not playing CL or EL. Spend the money on central defenders / Full backs, thats where we need to strengthen.

There have been reports before today that Everton still owe payments on the Lukaku sale. How much is anyones guess.

I'd wager that the sell-on clause is about 10%.  If it is 10% of the total fee, and we buy him for £75m, we still only pay Everton £67.5m (technically, because they'd have to hand £7.5m straight back to us).   Still a lot of money, which is why The Times report may have some substance.

We tell Everton we will waive whatever they owe to us, and we will even cancel the sell on, but they accept £67.5m; as that is all you'd have gotten anyway

However, if the 10% sell on is for anything over £28m, which in this case would be £47m, they'd get a maximum of £70m roughly from the deal.

So regardless, they aren't getting £75m, unless they sold him to another club besides us, or sold him to us; but for £80-90m-ish or so.

I am 60-40 that this deal will happen, 60 being we sign him, but i would bet anything that the fee won't be £75m. (and Lukaku would have to hand in a TR)

Everton fan, visiting temporarily. One or two of you might remember me from last year and the Stones saga that went on.

Andy Hunter, who covers Everton matters closely for the Guardian and is based in Liverpool, insists that we haven't even received a single bid from you for Lukaku. He's very well informed and cautious, and doesn't normally print something like that without being quite certain. Personally, I'm inclined to believe him over the Mail, Express and Evening Standard, none of whom have any quotes or substance backing their articles.

I know there's mixed opinion on here about paying somewhere in the £60-75m range for an ex-player that you sold, and also because a number of you just don't rate him that highly for the level you require, which is perfectly understandable. A number of our fans would agree with you (although the majority would prefer to keep him, I think, which is also my view). He's a very good player on his day, he does score goals and would get 20+ a season but as we all know he does have some limitations.

Anyway, I'm mainly posting just to say, I don't think we'll be selling him. Stones to City is pretty much a done deal, and I don't think we'll sell both.

I suspect we haven't bid yet, but i dont doubt for a second that we will. I'd probably guess there are just talks happening.

I do find it strange that Lukaku seem's to want to rejoin us now when there is even more competition upfront than there was when he left.

Has a manager who wants to use him now, seemingly.

And it is quite common knowledge we are "his" team.  Lukaku would walk back to Chelsea if we agreed a fee. IMO of course

The potential transfer of 68 GBP for Lukaku is a far reaching statement IMO. Personally, I wish we would use the money to anchor our defense and add cover for Fabregas ( would have been nice to have Lewis Baker available). Is there any hope for change in this club?

^My mistake. Anyway, I cannot believe we will go  as high as 68MM GBP for a striker with our defense so frail. I happen to agree a lot with the article which mentions also our failed transfer/youth development policy.
