If you could change one result from your time watching Chelsea. What would it be and why ?

Featured Replies

To many to mention, but the one's that stick out for me are,

Sunderland 2 West Ham 0 1980, few days after WHU won the FA Cup we needed them to win for us to get promoted, they lost & we stayed down, the following two seasons we nearly went bust & down to div 3.

Losing 3.2 to Spurs fa cup 1982

Boro 88 play offs only made better by us going down fighting as it were.

Sunderland cup replay early 90s away lost 2.1 to a last min winner, long coach journey home that night.

94 cup final.

I would change the 2008 Champions League Final result v Man United.

Why ? It still hurts losing to them.

Same,

and for it to be Terry that missed it hurts too.

The Monaco fiasco of the 2003/2004 UCL - Don Claudio could have left CFC as a Champion - instead he had to perform a miracle @ Lesterer City -

This for me as well, bloody tinkerman & Man Utd reject.

The semi final against barca in 09 without a doubt. I can stand losing on a penalty shootout especially after we ended up winning one in Munich which made the win in 2012 even sweeter, but 09 was just plain robbery and the fact it happened 4 times suggests there was clearly an agenda against us that night. People call that Barca side of 09 the greatest team ever but the truth is had we'd been given a competent ref that night they would've been on the end of an absolute drubbing and perhaps pep's career wouldn't have progressed the way it has done?

This wasn't the first result that sprung to mind, but having read your post you have managed to re-infuriate me about this absolute bullsh*t and yes, definitely this result.

You know the reffing was bad when you find domestic rivals taking your side.

Chelsea 0-0 Norwich, 2014. Lamps deserved a better sendoff, I deserved to see a Chelsea win. Oh well, at least I got to see us mug Fulham in the youth cup a few nights later!

Dont forget Ashley Cole as well. He also deserved a great send off. Sad to see it all end with a whimper.

The Spurs defeat in the 1982 FA Cup and the 1978 FA Cup defeat by Orient after we'd beaten Liverpool who were European Cup winners the previous May 77 and who would retain it.

Just remembered

Losing to Mallorca in the ECWC Semi Final in 1999.

The Final was being played at Villa Park and I thought were going to be the only team to retain that trophy.

1998/99 was the last season of the ECWC.

Losing 2-1 to Sunderland at home springs to mind too. Unbeaten at home under Jose ended and had we won, the League would have been in our own hands and was ours to win.

4-0 defeat to Utd in 94 cup final...old chelsea before the money...did double over them in the league, bossed final for an hour, peacock hit the bar...then Newton gives shocking pen, ellerary awards a ridiculous second, Sinclair slips to let hughes in and we're 3-0 down in space of nine crazy mins...then bossed rest of game in hunt for a goal, with Schmeichel making save after save and they get a fourth on counter in injury time...farcical result let alone scoreline...but we were still outsinging Utd fans when they went to lift the cup...

anyway, was so devastated afterwards...thought it was my one chance to see us win silverware...never forget John spencer bawling his eyes out in the pitch...would have loved those guys to get a winners' medal

It has to be losing to United in the Champions League final. We have won it since which has eased the pain of that loss, but we were inches away from winning it with a JT penalty that day, it's not something you ever really get over. Living with 3 United fans didn't make things easier either and i had no Chelsea fans around me to help deal with the loss. I just sat on the stairs away from the tv.

Another good one.  I was younger and just started following Chelsea that season, so it's probably why it didn't first spring to mind.  I remember the number of sudden "Man Utd Fans" that popped up in Scotland back then too.  I was so glad that little old Chelsea had done them twice in the league that year.

Easter weekend (1986 i believe) when we lost to QPR 6-0 & West Scum 4-0 within 2 days.

Believe we were doing ok in the league as well. I know fans from both who still bang on about it. Worse than the thieving scouse gits!

Some great shoutouts, but one that hasn't been mentioned that sticks to my mind is losing to Barcelona 5-1 in the second leg of the UCL quarter finals in the 1999-2000 season after winning the first leg 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.

If we'd won that tie, I've always wondered whether we could have done the unthinkable and gone all the way that year.

I wish we'd beaten Manchester United 10-0 last weekend instead of just 4-0 ... Jose would have been chewing Conte's ear for a good half an hour afterwards

Tottenham 5-1 Chelsea in the League Cup in 2002(?), I'm not sure I ever quite got over that one.

As far as I'm concerned, Newcastle/Blackburn did us on pens in the quarter finals and that result never happened.

The two CL semis; I'd change it so Eidur buries it against Liverpool and/or Iniesta misses the ball completely, sh*tting himself in the process.

Another result I'd change is the 2-2 against PSG in 2015 which got all the armchair activists chirping. I'd change it so we win, go on to win the CL, and the armchair activists all get done for fare evasion by Chelsea-supporting ticket inspectors.
