Be wary of shiny new toys that appear in tournaments. He did though look the standout player for CSKA v Arsenal last year. Good set piece delivery and appears to have a decent engine. My main concern would be that Russian players who have also stood out, Pavlichenko,  Arshavin, Smertin have appeared to be a little lightweight when it comes to playing in England. The cynic in me wonders if we'd be interested in him if he wasn't Russian.

Of course it is partly because he is Russian, Roman has brought in people solely because they jewish, so it it in character

I was actually meaning, a transfer is an effective way of moving money from the UK to Russia.

25 mil? Thats change when you're a multi billionaire, his current club also paid for him and he has real value so they need compensated at that price wheres the angle for Roman to get any money there? I' sure he would like a Russian star seems far more plausible

I've never thought of this method of money laundering before!

Reports out of Russia that the deal is done, just waiting for Russia’s run in the WC to be over.  Simon Phillips just tweeted the following, as well:

“Strong reports from Russia claiming that Chelsea have completed the deal to sign Aleksandr Golovin. Expected to sign once Russia’s World Cup ends”

I will be very happy if we sign him, I totally changed my mind after watching some videos of his game.
He's a great player for his age, reminds of a younger version of Schweinsteiger/Kroos type of a player that works hard, is great in transition and passing but also good in defense, maybe like Veratti somehow but he also has a good set piece skill.

Very excited, specially if Sarri joins and brings some attacking football 4-3-3.

Disagree gentleman. A transfer strategy isn't about just getting players because they are cheap and then working out where to fit them. It's about analysing what you need and then going out and getting that.

In my view he competes with Fabregas, RLC and Barkley. It's a spot already full. I don't think currently he is a guaranteed upgrade. He might grow into one but we have an awful record of developing players.

Meanwhile our deeper lying midfield is in terrible shape for Sarri. Kante is a nailed on starter but beyond that we are very thin on numbers and quality. Golovin can't play there. He's a more attacking player. Meanwhile the player who orchestrated Napoli's attack under Sarri seems to be moving to City for the same price we paid for Bakayoko without a peep as yet from us.

That is bad squad management spending money where you dont need to and failing to get what you need in the key spots.

Fabregas’ legs have gone. Watch his positioning he drops deeper and doesn’t play higher up he collects the ball off the centre back to distribute. For me this is the area where we need to improve the most. Barkley has been injury prone for Everton and was bought as an investment and I think if Chelsea could they would get Fabregas off the wage bill they would but his wages are so high he will see out his contract. RLC needs a chance but I would not put all my eggs on him as you need legs around him as he doesn’t cover enough pitch. Seri Golovin RLC Kante as our main midfielders would really move us on next year

I agree with your points on Fab. Fact remains he is in the last year of his contract and no-one will be taking him off our hands at those wages.

For mine deep lying midfield is the place we need reinforcements. Happy for Golovin to come in if we are moving others on, but the priority has to be a passing midfielder who has some sense of defensive awareness to play next to Kante.

Tutuosport in Italy are claiming that he would rather go to Juventus and we know what player power is like these days. I won't believe this one until he actually signs.

Until Roman has a word with Uncle Vlad and his family go on an enforced holiday until his mind changes...

Pretty sure he's already our player.

Rumours were that we had basically sowed the deal up and all other clubs pulled out. I read he went on holiday after the word cup so could be the delay.

Monaco Vice President -

“We have made an offer for CSKA Moscow for Aleksandr Golovin. A more than generous offer. Everything should be decided in the coming days, maybe even today. We cannot wait long. If it does not come off, we will look to another option.”

I'm the same. Good player at a good price, but not a necessity. Maybe sarri can use Barkley, RLC, or even Mount.

According to calciomercato.com, BBC sources in Russia have informed them that Chelsea have found an agreement to sign Golovin from #CSKA Moscow and have beaten interest from both #Monaco & #Juventus. The medical could happen today and Golovin will sign a 5-year deal at #CFC

Chelsea and CSKA have agreed terms for a deal to sign Aleksandr Golovin. Player has rejected Monaco offer. No Juve advance. Golovin will be a new Chelsea midfielder. #CFC #ChelSarri
