AVB has nothing to do with Chelsea anymore, why do people need to bring up his tactics all the time it doesn't matter now if deep midfielder worked or didn't work before...

Because it’s relevant to the discussion of how/if a deep lying playmaker can work in the Premier League if Sarri is going to go down that route. AVB isn’t the focus of the discussion, if you don’t agree, don’t join in, comments like this contribute nothing.

I always thought the issues with AVB's highline was that our best defenders weren't equipped for it.....Or to be more blunt, I thought we learned that we can not play any system where Terry had to actually run ::MooNeY::

We also had no one suited to a deep play maker role when AVB was here, IMO.

Truly, to me, it was a system that failed because we didn't have the personnel for it, not because it wasn't a system that could work in the BPL

I agree. The problem was AVB trying to shoehorn a system that didn't suit our best players. He was too stubborn to adapt it. The stubborness is my big fear with Sarri.

Almost every top team has someone that plays deep, even Conte used Matic as a deep midfield transition player when he came, fact is we missed him this season because the board decided he is too old as a 29 year old and his replacement Bakayoko can't make 2 simple passes...

Breaking | Aleksandr Golovin will join AS Monaco "imminently" & have beaten Chelsea to his signing in a deal worth €30m, according to tomorrow's L'Équipe

Thought this one was meant to be all done and Sarri wanted him. Strange if we lost him.

#Golovin situation: #Chelsea had an agreement with CSKA (with an offer of almost € 30m), but Blues HAVE CHOSEN (today) to take time and not close the deal (maybe he have other possibilities, see INTEREST for #Pjanic). Meanwhile, #Monaco has raised the offer, exceeding € 30m.

So we’ve dropped our intrest for Pjanic. Anyone know which player is better?

I don't expect Pjanic to join us, we should have just signed Golovin he can do it all he's a big talent and if set pieces are the biggest threat from Pjanic, Golovin is not that much far off...sad.

“CKSA Moscow goalkeeper Sergey Chepchugov appears to say goodbye to Aleksandr Golovin and wish him luck at Chelsea via his Instagram. Golovin liked the picture himself. “

Who knows what happening!

I think Pjanic is similar to Jorginho.

We need a player that will make runs.

Pjanic will want it to feet.

This is what Sarri will want, the emphasis will be on the running of the Front three, but that mid 3 aren't exactly static

Maybe, but Pjanic doesn't make the sort of runs hamsik makes, at least he hasn't since he's been at juve.

Pjanic is top drawer, I don't thinking is a good fit though personally.

In all likelihood, he is just after a bigger contract anyway.

No we didnt. Matic was absolutely rubbish at it and constantly list the ball under when teams employed a high press. Its why Conte had Luiz do the dame job, he moved up from his CB spot into a DLP role and Matic «Covered» for him. That was what we were missing last year, Luiz and his ability to distribute the ball from a deep position

This has been going from one club to another. First it was us then it was Juve then it looked like he was going to us again. Then Monaco made a bit, then he apparently did not want to move there, then apparently as of yesterday he was on his way there and now looks like he is coming to us. He also liked that post too, so you would think that should be that.

I can’t help but feel that Sarri may well have seen something from one of the players we already have and could well be that he needs to try things in a competitive , albeit deemed a friendly match. My guess is that player is Barkley.

Ok I hear people say he didn’t pull up any trees last season but his injury, contract issues and indeed the supposed issues he had with individuals in Liverpool would be challenging to say the least but when you add in how Conte exposed him against Arsenal when clearly not match ready and then factor in his age then it’s no wonder he struggled to regain form

It started off like a Roman signing, so if it doesn't happen it's probably not a bad thing. If we wanted him badly, we'd probably finish off the deal when we had the fee agreed on. He looked a good player at the WC, but if he comes, what will happen to RLC? We could do with another 60M player in the midfield, but another player to battle it out with RLC, Barkley, Drinkwater etc, not what we need right now.

To be fair you could put up a YouTube video of just about anyone and they would look immense with the only positive bits of play.

Not with Bakayoko's last season you couldn't.
