June 2, 20197 yr Every season brings about a few tweaks to football laws but as of now we have a few more to get our heads around https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48382254
June 2, 20197 yr Glad this one is being introduced; "A player who is being substituted must leave the pitch by the nearest point on the touchline or byeline"
June 2, 20197 yr Unless I didn’t read that properly I heard they were now not allowing goals to be scored for rebounds if pens are saved or hit the woodwork. I hope that isn’t true.

June 3, 20197 yr I'm a fan of the new drop balls rule. I always hate when a player fakes injury to kill momentum and then the ball get's kicked back to the keeper to restart. Dropping the ball where the play stopped is how it always should have been. Handball rules, yep, I'm fine with that. Players are now allowed to enter the box when a goal-kick is taken, I like this one too. I always thought it was stupid that the goal-kick needed to leave the box before a team-mate could touch it. The wall from freekicks, another rule change I like. Attackers pushing the wall to create a gap is something I hate, being made to stand 1m away from the wall will stop that. Quick free kick rules, another one I like. Penalties. Now for me, this is one I'm not so much a fan of. I think the whole rule about the goalkeeper having a foot on the goal line is unfair and can be a bit nit picky. I'm not saying they should be allowed to jump a few yards off their line to make a save, but I don't think they should be punished for being off the line by a tiny amount. I also think that if goalkeepers can be punished for this, then the penalty taker should be punished for the stuttered movement when taking a penalty. It should be a clean run and shot. The current rule is unfair to keepers. It's enticing the keeper to move, which could result in the keeper moving off his line and the penalty taker getting another chance to score if the penalty kick is saved. The substitutions rule, I like it, it's common sense really. No more slow walks off the pitch waiting for a player to be subbed. Cards for coaches. Don't care either way really. I have never been too bothered about it. I was hoping they would ditch bookings for players that take their shirt off to celebrate a goal. I understand if they throw the shirt into the crowd and can't get it back, but if they just take it off and swing it around or throw it on the floor, then what harm does it cause? It takes a second to put a shirt back on. Overall, I think these changes are good for the game. They aren't just silly changes for the sake of change, they actually improve the game. It’s the free kick one I find interesting. I would like to see the attacking side form either a second wall just in front or a player or two either end and as the kick is due to be taken the players peel away. I have no idea what the outcry would be but for a second or two would create mayhem. Last year there was another rule change which didn’t get a lot of press but I am surprised that teams haven’t yet put something into, ace to take advantage The rule now is that if two players from the same team receive treatment they are not required to leave the field of play. For me it’s simple if one of your players does indeed need treatment and the medical team need to come on another player who in reality isn’t in need of treatment goes to ground for say cramp on comes a second bunch of medics . Yep it’s cheating but could well avoid a defender having to go off at a crucial point of play.
June 3, 20197 yr Think all of these changes make sense. Good to see proper changes and not stupid things for the sake of it.

June 3, 20197 yr Goal kicks not having to leave the area is one of the best ones. More and more teams want to play out from the back and not just hoof it long and this encourages more possession based football.

When i was going up there would be 15 players waiting on the 18 yard line, to pounce on the poor kid taking the goal kick, who didnt have the power to kick it far!

I would have liked to have seen a rule where a team is allowed a free substitution for a player with a genuine visible head injury. Not tactical, but a genuine injury, like that one that happened to Vertonghen. The team should be allowed to make a sub without it counting against them.

I think the best way to avoid exploiting something like that is to have a player nominated as the injury sub before the game. Would make it a lot more difficult to exploit the benefits of having a "free" substitute then.

Unless you've used your 3 subs, and your keeper gets a head injury but your nominated player is an outfield player. Or even vise versa. It would be like when pearce threw on david james up front for 10 mins.

That would be the dumbest rule change. If that is the case you might as well make everyone wait at the halfway line and its just the keeper and the player like in a shootout. I wonder what team lost a trophy on a rebounded penalty that introduced that
