If he's not interested in winning the League Cup that's fine but bit off an odd night for Tuchel last night. What was odd in your opinion? I really like the way he rotates. Keeps the squad engaged and when we keep winning as well you couldn't ask for more in my view.

CHO playing a blinder on the left of attack at the weekend and then being asked to play right wing back in the next match. Same goes for Reece James. Played well at right wing back, then asked to play in the back 3. Chalobah goes from playing on the right of the 3 to the middle. Then we started with our 5th and 6th choice central midfielders. Finally brought on Chilwell to play right wing-back who was rotating with Mount to share the right sided responsibilities. Just some very odd selection choices which led to the expected disjointed display.

Fitness and freshness was always going to take priority hence some of the strange selections. If we had a fully fit squad we'd have probably seen 11 changes from Norwich.

Unfortunately, the League Cup has become a hindrance that clubs would rather not have to bother with - certainly not the clubs playing in Europe. I used to love all competitions, but must admit, couldn't give a toss about this one, and for the first time ever, as I had an early start today, I went to bed last night before the penalty shoot out. Always great to win every competition you enter but there is talk of the league cup being scrapped and I think that would be a good move - maybe just have it for sides who want to enter it and exclude sides playing in Europe.

For some reason I don't mind league cup midweeks, it's actually the early rounds of the FA Cup I find a bit of a drag. Maybe I'm pissing on tradition a bit here but I feel they're better off going to midweek aswell.
October 27, 20214 yr I feel a respect for the league Cup as its got some fairly solid history. Certainly for Chelsea as it was the first trophy of the Roman era. I think the over packed schedule and money grabbing tv rights / uefa etc have caused the competiton to be devalued. Its the perfect kind of trophy for a current Leicester. West Ham, Villa or dare I say it... Spurs to try and win. As we are in it I'll always be dissapointed to get knocked out. Might as well play to win.
October 27, 20214 yr In addition to my earlier comment... Just look how much pep has respected it. Won it 4 out of the last 5 years haven't they? Winning breeds winning. Edited October 27, 20214 yr by Itsintheblood89

Problem is the reward money is so sh*t compared to even climbing one league position. We may scoff at that as fans but whether we like it or not clubs run as a business and they simply have to prioritize where the money is rightly or wrongly, even more so now given they've lost a season and a bits worth of gate receipts (with potentially even more loss to come on that score).

Think most would consider it the right call to prioritize like that though. Everyone on the bench except goalkeepers and Vale were players it was sensible to rest with the long season ahead. So, it was about finding the best set-up possible with the 11 men he wanted to start with, and I think he did alright. The way he involves the fringe players and brings everyone together should be something everyone likes. Will keep the squad onside and he’s also adding value to certain players we may be interested in selling in the future. Like Malang Sarr for example who’s not a fantastic footballer by any means but he’s started three games now this season and have done relatively well. Not to mention the impact the chances he gave to for example Chalobah and RLC have had. Among several others as well.
October 28, 20214 yr Didnt' we lose 3 players just before kick off the other night? Pretty sure Tuchel would pick up a "normal" team without the hiccups. In a strange way, rather we lost on penalty the other night, there's another tough game to manage in December, and we are bound to lose a game or two due to the heavy schedules. Then the "fans" will turn on Tuchel for not knowing how to pick a team 🤔

Winning breeds winning. City have dominated the competition which is no surprise when you look at the quality of their squad. Just about every other side rest ALL their key players whereas Pep can afford to play a few and mix it with second string, bearing in mind Cities second string would still beat most sides. There is an argument to be had though that if perhaps Pep had rested a few more of his players, City might have won the CL by now!!

It means that Lukaku is isolated. I prefer one inverted + one standard wb which mean we play with one wide player and one forward or a 10. Some say City is playing similar inverted fb, nah it is very2 different. Essentially, with us wb willl become the two 10 whereas in city case they become one dm and one cb. And the two cm become 10. Our inverted is similar to united with Rashford and shaw. Edited October 30, 20214 yr by Bob stark

October 30, 20214 yr Early days and still to be tested against top opponents sure but his tweak with the wingbacks is looking like a masterstroke so far. I wasn't really convinced by James or Chilwell as pure wide players in the back 3/5 but since they've been given licence to drift in they've both hit another level offensively and that's even before you bring the numbers in the play. Few weeks ago I was ruing the fact we missed out in Hakimi and lost Livramento, now not so much. Edited October 30, 20214 yr by Argo
October 30, 20214 yr If we can get a striker going, we will be unstoppable in attack. But even without Lukaku we're casually on a +23 goal difference after 10 games.
