Doesn’t matter where he plays he needs to up his game the mistakes made or irrelevant to his position. You can CB so have to move across and cover LB if the LB is out of position. I haven’t see a player who has been so ineffective at stopping crosses and gets turned so easily.

Step it up!!

Bang on.

I am wondering if Poch's disinclination to play him as CB, even when Chilwell is around, is becuase he has seen in training that he just doesn't seem to be that good in the air.

I don't want ot be gettign on his case and i am desparate for him to come good, but considering all of the self induced hype around this lad, i am still yet to see anything from him to warrant the falling over ourselves we were doing in the summer.

If all the defenders are fit and playing in their proper positions then he doesn't currently get in the team for me. I'd take Badiashile at LCB over Colwill.

Colwill should be playing CB alongside Silva - End Of.

That's where he was playing for Brighton and getting rave reviews so why the f**k play him out of position when the other CB's (Disasi and Badiashile) aren't very good? It's madness.

He's not as good as Badiashile.

Don't forget De Zerbi was playing Webster ahead of Levi for more than half a season at Brighton. Colwill only had 13 starts in the PL in 22/23. In all comps, Brighton played 46 games, and Colwill started in 17.

And i suspect that for a chunk of those he had Lewis Dunk alongside him, a season PL pro, not the likes of Disasi. They also spent a large amount of that time playing Caicedo at RB so Dunk could bond closely with Colwill because Caicedo could be trusted as he was doing well at RB. If we have Silva alongside Colwill, Silva also has to cover for Disasi going missing or Gusto being caught out upfield or James always getting injured so if just detracts teh amoutn of tiem he can spend working closely with Colwill.

He’s not magically going to stop getting skinned, out muscled, lose arial duels and let crosses into the box by moving him to CB, arguably he would be even more of a liability in that position. For a big lad he doesn’t half get bullied my wingers and forwards.

Preston targeted him on long kicks if anyone was paying attention to their goal kicks which makes the idea of Matesen at LB 🤣🤣🤣

Pre injury Badiashile is levels above Colwil, jury still out in Disasi.

Playing players in their natural position? It's crazy... But it just might work...!

Well he didn't play 24 games for Brighton last year, but putting aside The Athletic's usual level of journalism, his average PL rating at Brighton according to Whoscored was 6.54 for his 17 appearances last year (in a better side than we currently are), and this season he is at 6.79, so either he's actually improving, or also/alternatively he's a better left back than he is centre back 🙂

We have no idea if Badiashile gets back to pre-injury form. In the handful of games he's played in his return he's cost us far more than any of our other defenders to date.

Just had a quick look at the figures too. God awful Colwill this year overshadows second coming of Jesus Christ, Badiashile from last year.

He wasn't playing often or getting rave reviews for Brighton. Played less than half their games.

People were putting the cart before the horse talking about him like he's a fusion of JT, Beckenbauer and Van Dijk.

Think being on loan made him benefit from the same effect deadwood like Broja and injury prone defenders like Fofana and Badiashile benefitted from.

When we were so bad last season people loved pretending an unavailable player is the answer but often when they come into the team people see their flaws and not the romantised version they had in their own mind.

Probably explains why it is rumoured that Pochettino is after new centre backs.

I'll add "left centre back" to the list of transfer targets LOL

When I see us linked to new players I suspect this is more our board and Winstanley etc. who are looking. Poch may have suggestions but transfer decisions are made higher up. If we sign another CB it is probably in part because Fofana is still out for the foreseeable future, and Badiashile too seems to be injury-prone. I think if these 2 players were available regularly then Colwill would be on the bench based on current form. He is unfortunate in that he is playing out of position most weeks. But even on the occasions he has played a more central role he has yet to convince. I think he needs more time though. Its a shame we didn't sign Lewis Dunk a year or 2 ago as an experienced foil for the younger players. Thiago is realistically at the end of his career here, and we need somebody experienced but with a few more years on the clock.

I respect your opinion but you would be wrong.

If I wanted to cry I'd watch the ending scene of Braveheart. Watching a 40 year Thiago Silva getting caught out time and time again due to his loss of athletic ability isn't what I had in mind.

Although in fairness, he appears to be the only player in the team other than perhaps Jackson capable of jumping in the air and heading the ball.

Also the only defender that can read the game

You can't be serious WW! Jackson is absolutely appalling in the air. And that's when he can be arsed to actually jump. His timing is non-existent.

I'd most definitely cry if I were forced to watch Braveheart.
