I'm Italian so I do tend to watch a fair bit of Serie A (hence my snippy response in claiming I only watch Osimhen YouTube clips). My opinion is Osimhen is a player who turns us from a team going for top 4 into a team going for the league title. If i had a pound for every person that said this about Lukaku. The parallels in ability and hype are uncanny.

I prefer to judge players by watching them and not just look at a stats website and pick out stats that prove my point. Which is probably as bad as judging a player off a YouTube clip. I'm not sure the point in such extreme statements. If you think he's not the right striker for Marescas system or worried he might struggle in the Premier League then I can understand and probably agree with those points. Or if you think he's not a top level striker then yeah fair enough, but to say he's dog sh*t is nonsense. He came 8th in last years Ballon d'Or, Won Serie A, and African player of the year. Even if you don't agree with that and think he was undeservedly given the awards you can't get on the list if you're dog sh*t. Maybe my definition of 'dogsh*t' is different to yours I'm assuming you mean he's bottom half Premiership or maybe Championship quality (not that I'd qualify all of them dog sh*t myself)? I already covered in my previous posts that Osimhen takes a lot more shots than Jackson, hence the inflated figures. I also pointed out that he's just as wasteful. I've chose those stats because they back up what i see, feel free to show anything at all that backs up your eye test. I watched Napoli a lot two seasons ago and Kvara won them that title. Osimhen should consider himself lucky he was able to be fed by him all season. Ballon D'or is a popularity contest, i keep making the comparisons but Lukaku finished 12th after the Serie A win with Inter. African player of the year just goes to whichever African won a trophy as there are so few in top teams. perhaps dogsh*t is harsh, very limited would be a better description. It would be the same as calling Lukaku dogsh*t, depends what you want from your striker.

Tbf with Lukaku he could be, unfortunately he is his own worst enemy with his poor attitude. The fans of half the teams he's played for think he's a prick and no doubt it'll happen with Napoli in a couple of years when Conte has gone and Saudi offer him 300k a week.

I see your point of Osimhen not being technically amazing and can be wasteful at times but it all depends what you want in your striker. Haaland is a phenomenon but he's pretty limited technically, but he scores goals for fun to cover his flaws. If Victor scores a ton of goals for us no one will care similar to how being top of the league at Christmas pre interview Lukaku was working out perfectly fine without complaint. The comparison to Lukaku is a little unfair, Lukaku's mentality is his biggest flaw, Osimhen is a different man. For me we need a goal scoring monster doesn't matter if he can take on 2 players or pass a pin point through ball. Just a man in the box that when given the opportunity takes he's chance most of the time. Whether that's Osimhen I don't know but I'm willing to give him a chance before righting him off.
August 30, 20241 yr Having his Saudi medical as we speak.... We're we ever really interested? Was it just a ploy to put pressure on Osimhen? Never really fitted the profile of what we spend money on tbh. Ironically though both Toney and Osimhen could end up at same Saudi club.

Yes, just heard that they could blth technically be there but unlikely

August 30, 20241 yr Just transfer one of their other none Saudi players to another Saudi club, just like we just did with Washington. Easy.

Just as a late aside - this is actually a good stat, not a bad one. Finishing "accuracy" doesn't correlate with performance nearly as well as the number of shots taken. Good strikers take a lot of shots because they get into shooting positions. Lewandowski, Aguero, Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Neymar and now Haaland & Mbappe take many chances per game but are not necessarily clinical. The top shot takers in Europe last season correlates pretty well with the list of 'best forwards' in Europe, not accounting for league strength of course: The xG model started as a refinement of the correlations between shot-taking and performance. To your point though, Oshimen is nowhere on this list. He was #28 with 85 shorts, compared to Jackson at #40 with 80 shots.

"evidence-based transfer" He was excellent for Marseille last year though, because he was allowed to simply play in the channels off the shoulder. No defensive responsibility, no pressing. Scored a lot of goals but also a complete passenger in everything else, and a big reason why Marseille finished 8th when they've finished in the top 3 since 2020. I genuinely can't think of a time when the 'veteran poacher' has ever worked for a top side. Veteran strikers can work, but the only examples I can think of from recent memory are Lewandowski, Ibrahimovic and Ronaldo - 3 of the best ever, and hardly described as mere poachers Edited September 18, 20241 yr by SydneyChelsea
