Lampard is not a good coach it’s that simple he hasn’t learnt anything from his days with US and repeated the same mistakes.

he needs to spend time in the lower leagues here/across Europe or be assistant to a top level coach.

He may not be but I would take the Lampard that showed up in 2019 over our current manager ANY day. Played much better football, got better results and also knew full well what this club was about so he had the right mentality. So we didn't hear excuses every week and while results were inconsistent achieving 4th and a FA-Cup final in his first year with that squad was a big achievement. Unraveled a bit towards the end and I don't think Everton was the right club for him but at least here he had a clear style of play and at times there was a lot to be excited about.

Hmm no I don't think so.

I could be wrong but I believe Todd and the Eggman, while they make the final call, will be leaning heavily on their new boardroom teams advice. Aside from Paul Winstanley most of them only started over the past month or so, Stewart and Shields started at the end of January.

I believe these guys will want to get a feel for Potter, and I would not be surprised if they are given a remit to assess him/his staff and advise about his position in the summer.

That's a good point. The directors being football people will act as the middle man, and if they don't see any progression with Potter's football with all the investment they might make the call with Boehly.

I still firmly believe, or want to believe, that with our CMs back we will see improvement, along with certain attackers being replaced.

I saw this posted and thought it was interesting for context:

The most underperforming teams in PL are Liverpool, Chelsea, West Ham.

Last 2 seasons, most games in Europe:
1) CFC 122 games (!!)
2) Liverpool 117

Since last season:
1. CFC
2. LFC
3. City (slightly underwhelming by their standards)
4. West Ham (2 EL long campaigns).

Less games played since last season?
Newcastle and Arsenal. The most overperforming teams in PL as opposed to preseason expectations.

Both Liverpool and Chelsea have quite literally played an extra half season than those teams.
Both on their last legs.

Injuries:
Liverpool had 54 injuries in 20/21
Chelsea had 97 (!!) injuries in 21/22

This season:
Liverpool and Chelsea the most affected by injuries yet again.

My conclusion from this:

The past 2 seasons might have done irreparable damage to both these teams, and the reality is that some of their players are basically done.
Fabinho’s legs are gone at 29, VVD is mortal. Kante and Kovacic might never recover. Mount is exhausted.

Great post. I hope moving forward the team takes it slow with players like James and Chillwell so the same thing doesn’t happen to them. I was happy to see James get removed early yesterday for example.

Frank has been so inconsistent as a manager throughout his short career. Inconsistency has been the only consistent part of his game. I think he is an overthinker and way more intelligent than most of his players. I feel a good combination of a coach is a man who understands what makes a player tick on top of tactical knowhow. Frank probably lacks a bit of that ticking side. Football as a game itself is pretty simple. Player and a combination of players is the tricky part. In terms of player I mean a human.

Mourinho, Pep and Klopp are all brilliant on both sides of that game. Same goes with Conte.

I do think a lot of the good football we played in Lampard's first few months was just Sarriball with the shackles off. Towards the end of his first season we were looking much worse. Same with Potter, we looked good in the first few games but now we're slowly being coached into mediocrity.

Watching Spurs vs City and wondering…

What if we had Conte ( a good proven manager )and give him 600 m for players… hmmm.

look at how they are playing and look at how we are playing 🧐. Even if they lost to City they are going down fighting .

Our players just going down injured 😅.

We'd have a team of donkeys and lukaku leading the line. Whilst playing 5atb and negative football.

People have very short memories.

The negative football that took us to the title winning 93 points? Whilst playing the likes of Victor Moses as RB?

This season we only have Havertz, Auba up frond. Lukaku plays for Inter. Funny ,The donkey that were European Champ( 😅talking about short memory). Players can’t just change into donkey after 1 season. What true is that you use donkey as race horse and race horse for pulling carts.  Pulisic wingback, havertz as 9. conte tactics can sometime be fun to watch I think it depends on the squad he get.

ps: Conte make a donkey look like a race horse and sell it for the price of a race horse to us.🤣😂 . Why we can’t do that to others. This year we bought more donkeys for price of race horse again … Cucu, Auba, Kouli

Conte wanted that after winning the league title and he when he didn't get it, he crashed and burned. The board might believe that you don't need 300m-600m for the next season since well, you just won the league out of the blue.

After all, there's no guarantee that it would have worked out, Abramovich was ready to give to Tuchel whatever he wanted after winning the CL and the 100m for Lukaku didn't make us a better team.

Can’t help but come back to this thread. I’m all for being patient and giving it thru the end of the season, but my gut tells me Potter is the wrong man for this job. Just struggling to see what he brings or any type of on pitch identity or personality.

He’s got Feb and Mar with a consistent group of players to change my opinion. Far from impressed so far.

So do you apparently.

Conte's first season here was perhaps the most impressive league campaign in our history. Played great football as well.

Conte was great in first season. One of my favourite seasons ever.

He was also the manager who oversaw an awful transfer window. Matic replaced with bakayoko, zappacosta brought in, no ambition with the academy players.

We then played the most turgid negative football I've seen us play under any manager.

But hey, let's reminisce about that first season and pretend it's relevant. Put him in charge of us now and it becomes an operation to win the league next year and who gives a sh*t about the one after that.

Oversaw? He tried to burn down Marina's office after that shambolic window. Emenalo resigned on the spot (Conte and Emenalo worked great together) because they were overruled by Granovskaia. Everyone knows who he actually wanted that window.

I rate every league title extremely high. Only 4 managers have managed it in our entire history so yeah give me 1 league title any day. God knows Potter will never achieve it.

Conte got what he wanted. He just missed out on Sandro, who wouldn't have succeeded probably. But the profiles he wanted and the players he wanted out went.

Bakayoko, Morata, Drinkwater, Zappacosta Rudiger in. 200m euros. Matic and Diego Costa out.

We also had awful transfer windows under Lampard and Tuchel. Who was the common denominator? Marina. Our new buys under Vivell all look very promising.

And Conte pretty much turned Serie A into a one team league managing Juventus. He's clearly capable of sustained success.

“I asked for two players and we were very, very close after we won the league. One player was Romelu Lukaku, the second player was Virgil van Dijk, and these two players were very, very close. We were in contact every day and I always said that with these two players we would improve my team by 30 per cent.

Stop bullsh*tting.

I didn’t realise that we’ve got the 3rd best defence in the league. Clearly Potter needs to learn to balance defence vs attack as he’s abit too defensively minded.

We've had managers chase short term success. Lampard didn't have an awful window in my book.

Of course. If only we'd spent 80m on a Southampton defender instead of Rudiger, and lukaku had chosen Conte over Pogba, then we would have won the league the next season. All is forgiven Conte.

Yes we would have. Anything else?

£108 million on Ziyech and Havertz would disagree. Though Thiago Silva Chilwell, Mendy were good buys. Werner was decent but not for those kind of wages.
