players wouldn't have needed something like this in the first place.

And the reason for that was the manager that came in, in 2004 and built a team with fantastic mentality.

It just seems really odd to me that a complete unknown to the entire team, with no experience in dealing with football players are coming in to straighten people out. Wouldn't sit right with me as a player if I was a European Champion a year and a half ago and competed for just about every trophy there was last season as well.

Maybe he will change his approach but from what i'm reading and seeing from him it could go horribly wrong as well for me. Can you imagine if Mount can't stand him and Enoka suggest we just sell him. Should we do that then?

As I said in a previous post - we've all complained about the mentality of some of these players and this squad for a good few years now, and so has every manager in the last 5 years, I've got no issue with the club trying something different to get rid of those issues.

That's a strange hypothetical considering Mount (despite his recent downturn in form) is one who has been widely praised for his mentality by all of his managers, so I can't see this guy singling him out for that all of a sudden.

It's all hypothetical - another hypothetical scenario is that this fella comes in and actually helps improve the morale and mentality of these players. If he's helped to instill similar mentality into the New Zealand rugby team then for me there's no reason to believe or worry that he won't have a similar impact here.

Its literally what the sports science department does, which every top club has.

Ah, yes, I also understand what Sport Science is and that it is some thing other clubs do.

Who is the new Eileen Drewery I wonder?

Sure, we should try everything, but maybe Potter should try "managing" as well?  Is that too much of a radical idea?

That player management and motivation should come from the manager.

Is paintballing going to bring the team together?

Roy Keane told Sky’s Euro 2020 preview show ‘Road To Wembley’: "Paintballing! Brilliant.

“But you always know when teams are having a hard time when they’re paintballing."

Richards said: “You don’t do it when you’re winning."

Keane joked: “You know you’re heading for relegation when you’re paintballing".

Yeah, we'll see mate. Not going to conclude before we've tried it so time will tell.

I'll be honest though. I think the managers mentality needs to change before most of the players so the lad may be most busy with him. Most of the players have proved very recently that they are in fact winners and can compete for the biggest trophies in the world. The manager however has not acted like a winner in any way shape or form since he arrived at the club.

Big reason why so many are unimpressed with him already in my opinion. Have said all the wrong things and not instilled and ounce of confidence in any supports are not any of the players either.

Maybe they've brought him in to instil a winner's mentality in Potter, who knows!

I think he's trying to say if you need to do all these extra activities and bring in people to improve the winning mentality then the team is already heading downhill. Which obviously we all know since its no secret how our season has been so far results wise.

The army base visit thing I suspect is our version of the paintballing, which was mentioned in the post.

I do agree to an extent in terms of anyone raising concerns with bringing in someone, not in terms of its being a bad idea. More so the head coaches we're used to don't need these kinds of appointments as usually they're charismatic enough themselves to instil these values in their players.

Whether this is a short-term thing or not which usually it is in most cases. Although it usually resets with the next serial winner we would usually hire and then rinse and repeat

Having watched the video and putting aside my initial thoughts that he sounds a bit of a prat i'd be amazed if this kind of mentality could be incorporated in any workplace in the environemnt we all live in today. Can see half this mob signed off long term sick due to being bullied in the workplace

What would you like help with dear?  More than willing to help you with basic comprehension.  I have experience dealing with the neurodivergent and special needs so i am more than willing to help a person of limited scope like yourself to comprehend. Please specify exactly where you are struggling and what you are finding hard to understand.

NZ have a great rugby team traditionally and the Hakka has a long history. Our school used to chant one before the  school rugby team played back in the 1960s in country Australia. I still know the words although I never knew what they meant.

building team spirit and togetherness when you have a bunch of new players is a  good idea. There are any number of bonding things that happen in the corporate world. It’s what offsites anre about.

scoring a goal every now and then is also a good idea.

You - and a bunch of other people who seem determined to slag off Chelsea wherever they can right now - seem to think that every decision that's made, decisions that are perfectly rationale, are a slight on Potter.

Hiring NZ team on a temporary basis to bring in a winning attitude? Sounds great to me. Oh no that means Potter's weak.

Taking the team on an away day to get them focused when there's a gap between games. Can't hurt! Sounds like a good idea. Oh no that means Potters sh*t.

I can't wait for him to take us to the title and the old farts like you to try and explain how we shouldn't celebrate because Potter must have cheated somehow. But obviously, you'll all go back under the rocks you came from when things are going well. Just ready to jump out and slag off our club whenever you get the chance.

You're the type of old farts who slagged off Liverpool for bringing in a throw in coach. And then it turned out to actually make a significant difference for them.

FYI insulting people by calling them disabled isn't really that cool.

I don't think there is anything wrong with bringing in as many reources as possible to give you an edge and to develop a camaraderie and bond between colleagues whether in a sporting environment or in the work place. In fact sports teams lend themselves naturally to a more bonding culture due to the natural competitive spirit each member has.

However mantras such as "......if you can't change the people, change the people" is surprising to hear and see in this current nanny state that we seem to live in. I know that if i introduced a similar approach in my work place about my staff, I would be hung out to dry under out anti bullying protocols.

when i worked as a tutor at university in accounting I used to get one person in the class to start a bs story and then after 15 seconds have the next one carry it on. Equally I have been to corporate offsites where we had to be in teams and build towers out of sticks etc etc. Its all good stuff and worth while but in the end nothing builds team loyalty teamwork and performance than being pressured by opposition teams regularly and finding team solutions. Theres a reason Caesar burnt the bridges behind him. Succeed or die.

My opinion remains that this team should presently be scoring more goals. Look at ten hag, or in scotland, Celtic where ange postecoglou came in as  an australian, right they cant play football, and was expected to last 2 weeks and within a month he had them performing out of their skin. And in postecoglou's case it was no coincidence I'd seen him do it in australia with Brisbane.

So for me its just not a good sign its taking this long. However may be it does take some people longer and we don't need to qualify for CL this year

Don't believe Potter will prove to be successful, hopefully will be proven wrong.

That 'mentality coach' sounds a good idea, maybe the player need a kick in the backside they been missing from the manager. The All back and a club team is quite different, you can't use the national pride or fight for your people cliche.

Isn't it the managers job to instill a winning mentality?

Some people mock the move to bring somebody in for the mental side of things, which seems to me more a kneejerk response to anything to do with mental health.

Thinking up footbally things is quite different from working with players' minds. Not everybody can do both, just being a drill sergeant and shouting a lot isn't the way forward. I once had to get a group of people to lead, and for the life of me I couldn't get some of them to do what I wanted. They were disinterested and just wanted to do their own thing. What I thought was reasoning with them didn't work, painting the bigger picture didn't, yelling didn't. Eventually somebody else did get them going. It may be I'm not a leader  , but it takes different skills to form a cohesive group and get them to work their socks off for each and for some "higher" purpose, in this case the badge and the supporters.

Although it's a negative way to do it and may not be a good long term strategy the classic approach is "us against  them". In NZ and from an Australian's point of view most kiwi rugby players are born with the objective of proving they are better than Australians. Its ingrained in them from school on and reinforced in the NZ media. The Rolling Stones were us against them. Mourinho had his first Chelsea side playing us against them.  Maybe Chelsea players need to believe individually and as a unit that everyone else hates them and thinks they are useless (probably not too far from truth). Then you need an on field leader who can at once reinforce that attitude and at the same time be example of  how to just win and thumb your nose at them. That's your roy kean or john terry or what's his name the alko from Arsenal. We don't have that on field captain yet and I personally think it helps with the team culture. Not a good culture necessarily but a winning one.

Reading more on the City investigation this morning. Apparently it now goes before an independent panel for further investigation and adjudication. It could still take years for any concrete findings of financial misrepresentation and evasion to be confirmed and penalties imposed.

Must admit I knew nothing about the managerial shadow contract payments City made to Roberto Mancini through Al Jazira FC. No surprise that Mancini has refused to comment on the allegations.

I wonder if the Mancini allegations will prompt a review by HMRC? Surely this is blatant tax evasion if proved.

Doubt it Boris Becker 7 years inside Zahwai even though he paid it back nothing not even suspended as an MP.

We have seen the Jose siege mentality so many times, some players buy into it and played above normal effort, most got bored of it after a while. I dare say it worked better 10-15 years ago, now days most players just want the 'likes' on Insta and not like being the 'villain' of Keane or a JT. I do think these bunch of players need to believe they are much better than what they are right now, whether it's Potter or the mentality coach asset that idea is an unknown. Maybe they need to re-watch that CL final a few more times, who knows.. I highly doubt the us against them all mentality will work, especially when we don't have a leader ( as you said) or even an aggressive type of guy in the dressing room, I mean not even a Rudiger.
