They did have Tomori sent off after 20 minutes which helped massively.

I agree. They kind of unravelled as a team in front of our eyes. Don't get me wrong there must have been a tipping point and it certainly galvanised us, where this has happened recently. But i did get teh impression at the tiem that this landed in our lap and was as much about them as it was us.

Still, facts are facts and we did do it.

Yeah because we/Potter exploited Pioli having Theo Hernandez as the inverted fullback in possession. When we turned it over Tomori was totally exposed.

I have no idea what that means.

The Milan manager when his side was in possession had Theo Hernandez drifting into midfield which meant when we turned it over and quickly played it through to Mase Tomori (the left sided centre back) was totally exposed.

Doesn't look too different to their results without Casemiro this season. Which shows where the true difference maker lies.

But the point of saying they weren't a struggling team isn't totally true either.

I thought that Ronaldo was their top scorer, followed by Fernandes. They were the only players in double figures. The next highest was Mason Greenwood!!

If memory serves wasn't Ronaldo the only player keeping them together and if he didn't play, they looked woeful and didn't score.

Or is that the season before?

So people are trying to convince Potter is a bad manager by going into details about a game we won 3-0 away. Nice one 👏

2-0 against 10 men it was comfortable but the result wasn't in doubt once Tomori got sent off. The 3-0 at home was a good performance no question about that but possibly the only really good one so far during Potter's tenure.

The big difference between Utd and us when the managers came in is UTD had a functioning midfield for the new manager to build on, ours was a shambles that had been ignored by Tuchel for some ridiculous reason.

This comment is absolutely hilarious given United had by far the worst midfield in the entire league when Ten Haag came in.

Pogba had just left after running his contract down, McFred were memes for years.

Ten Haag has signed 3 new first choice midfielders in Casemiro, Eriksen and Sabitzer and has integrated them all quickly.

That's what top managers do, they integrate and stamp their mark on their teams quickly.  Obviously no one would argue Potter is in Ten Haags class which is why I ask why we should be backing a manager so clearly inferior to the managers of all our rivals?

So he signed 3 midfielders to build on, so they had a working midfield for him. You literally just agreed with what i said you clown.

I really hope English isn't your first language.

no one agrees with your idiotic statement that when Ten Haag came in he had a functioning midfield to build on.  The fact he had to sign and integrate a whole new midfield proves otherwise.

Why people like this guy still try to argue their point when confronted with the fact it's factually incorrect I'll never know

He had a midfield to work with, it was built as a functioning unit in pre season/early season to allow him to fix the massive problem Utd had in midfield. Meanwhile Tuchel in his infinite wisdom chose not to bother signing anyone, meaning Potter has had to pick up the pieces of a shambolic midfield that had proven to be a problem for the past season and a half.

I tell you what, as your obviously very hard of thinking I`ll help you out with the definition of the word "Functioning"

Yep and now two of them are out they all of a sudden look as clueless as they did under Rangnick, if not more so.

Almost as if Ten Hag isn't this reborn Mourinho 1.0 people are making out. United fans I get getting giddy but our supporters doing it is very odd.

Thanks for proving my point.

Your drivel is better off ignored as you obviously made a random throw away comment to defend Potter and blame Tuchel for no reason but obviously know nothing about football and mistakenly compared our mismanaged midfield to one of the few teams who have mismanaged their midfield even more over the last few years.

A team in a much worse state than ours this summer who spent less but have actually seen improvement because they've brought in a much better coach than we have, who has managed to integrate his new signings while we're yet to show many signs of building towards a cohesive team with ours.

it's a good comparison but only to show how poorly we've done not to excuse Potter so you can ramble about Tuchel.

the bolded part made me laugh.

Nothing like seeing idiots that don't understand basic English try and criticise the thinking and words of others.

A poster best left on ignore it seems.

Ten Haag isn't Mourinho,  I'm not sure I'd even back him to win a title there but there's no way anyone can deny he's done a significantly better job than Potter since they both came in.

And given we're the only 2 big clubs to change managers this season the comparison will be there,  he's giving United supporters belief that they're building something which is something we're not getting from Potter

After 5 months it's clear to see which manager is having a positive impact on his club and people will question while our manager is having the opposite effect

United fans are always weird with a manager in the first couple of years, they were the same with Mou, Ole and even Moyes aswell. Any criticism is usually meet with hundreds of "but Fergie needed time" drowning them out.

If the nine games Casemiro hasn't started is trended for a record over the current campaign United would be marginally above us having conceded twice as much. For the record I'm still to be convinced Potter is the right man long term but stick James with a clean bill of health and we're at worst challenging the top four.

No they weren't struggling at all 😅

Everyone over at United wanted to sell Rashford before this season.

There is so much rewriting of history on here of late.

Lucky to win the Champions League under Tuchel? what absolute nonsense. We were the better team throughout the tournament, we even broke records that year.

United weren't a struggling side before ten Hag took over? more nonsense. They were on a fast track to becoming the new Arsenal. They became the team everybody wanted to watch just to laugh at.

The most embarassing part is that we are now even worse than United last season. If you ask a lot of United fans, they will tell you that their team last season was the worst they had ever seen.

Ten Haag signed some players, those players did well. Potter has signed some players, those players have also done well.

Potters first 14 league games as Chelsea manager are almost identical to Tuchels last 14. I'd be shocked if his next 14 are worse.

I don't understand why the author there brings up win rate. 74% across all competitions means that Manchester United win less than 3 out of 4 games, and in the EPL alone that would only be 84 points - way off the pace of title winners in last few years.

As others have pointed out, it's a statistic without any appropriate context.

It's not 84 points. Draws exist as well. It's up to 93 points if you factor them in. 88 or 89 would maybe be a realistic tally, and that isn't too far away from title winning form...

So United without Casemiro, extrapolated to a whole season, are still above us, in the top half ?

Chelsea without James, extrapolated to a whole season, would be relegated with 29 points from 38 games ! (games he's played no part in we are played 13 won 2 drawn 4 lost 7 - 12 of the 13 with Potter in charge)

Why United fans or pundits use that line is beyond me there's a chasm of difference between football in 1989-90 and now.

How about comparing Potter's first 14 matches to Tuchel's first 14 matches? Or first 50? Oh don't answer that...

Exactly ... a team winning 28 of their 38 games is not going to lose the other 10. Probably draw at least 5, so agree 89 is probably a good tally.

89 would win you the PL title in two thirds of the seasons to date, and you'd get at least 2nd in all but 2 seasons. You'd certainly be going very deep into the season as a contender for the title, even if ultimately you fell short.

He might not have to if we are also relegated LOL

I do admire your optimism all the same ! We are 14/1 for the CL if you fancy a little flutter with Skybet 🙂

To re-cap most Chelsea fans want Potter to do well [including me] as we are Chelsea fans.

We just have some doubts about Potter.

Our doubts are there, because our results have been sh1t  . .  .

. . . and we are also not clear about our character and style of play.  What is Potter ball?  Hopefully we will find out by the end of the season. Potter will get more time and hopefully we shall see some kind of identity. We have some great creative players now. I am not convinced by Potter and the idea of hiring a coach to help him attain a 'winning mentality' is rather funny imho.
