Southgate expected to make changes. . . .yeah, his experiment in midfield hasn't worked out and so he is dropping TAA for Conor.  As much as i like Conor, if England would like to win the tournament then the sooner we play both Bellingham and Palmer the better.

Yep, agreed....I went for this squad on the beeb thingy, I also read Shaw is back. 🤷‍♂️

Pundits had to mention Hungary beating England 6-3 at Wembley in the 50s.

Luckily everyone seems to forget a few months later we played Hungary away . Hungary won 7-1 ..

🤥

Don’t tell him Pike !😀

Scotland played Hungary in December 1954. And the Hungarians won 4-2.

In front of 113,000 on a Wednesday afternoon!😀

Didn’t think Scotland offered much in attack in any of their three games.

I accept they rarely had much of the ball against Germany in the first game.

Don’t really know where in the team Steve Clarke could make big chances and bring in players who could make a big impact at international level.

He can only use what is available to him.

The very fact that Scotland qualified for Euro 2024 is a success and should be seen and used as a stepping stone.

Whether it will or not…

We just picked the same team. Oh, actually I kept Kane.   I would use Watkins as a sub in every game though.  Or you could do it the other way round?  Use Kane as a sub.  Harry is a goal scorer.  Also, I would also use Mainoo if i wanted to toughen up the middle later on in the game.

Tournament football is a different thing and England never seem to understand that and we end up playing players because they might 'deserve' to play, because they had a good season and tried hard. When we should just be playing our best players.  Saka, Bellingham, Foden and Palmer.

I think our biggest problem is Declan Rice. Like the player a lot. Great player. But he has seem knackered and lethargic in recent games. His passing has been off.  I would drop him but we don't have a reasonable alternative to him.

Yep, I'd swap kane for watkins or start with kane. Also eze comes on for Gordon and saka off for Bowen, etc...play them in the right spots.

Tbh I've rated palmer higher than foden. New city, new club, new team, teammates with "potential" instead of experienced and settled players, etc...but nothing wrong in replacing palmer with foden once he's tired. Like the ones above. Because in my mind they will get very very tired with a high press.

I agree about rice...he normally has a lot more energy, the odd occasion when I saw him play for arsenal or watching highlights.

Sounds like the only change Southgate is going to make is to bring in Gallagher for TAA. Loads has been wrong in the first two games but in his wisdom, Southgate thinks that can all be righted by making that one change!

Really hope the England fans don't turn on Gallagher if it all goes pear-shaped.

I had to look that up !

Hungary beat Germany 8-3 ( I think) earlier in the tournament but lost 3-2 to Germans in the final! I'll have to read more about it.

England of course were knocked out earlier.

I've always wondered how Hungary were able to develop an innovative way of playing back then behind the Iron Curtain.

Short lived though it appears to have been.

Thanks for info mate

Its the most amazing final. I helped my son with his History GCSE coursework doing this and i ended up virtually writing it all for him.

It has everything. The fantastic Magyar's smashing all in font of them. Germany trying to rebuild their football team and relations with Europe still struggling with the hangover of war. A German cobbler and member of the Nazi party called Adi Dassler (yes, him) designs a stud to screw into the boots (unheard of) which the German team trial during the tournament. The Hungarians line up with Hidekguti, Puskas and Koscis in their team. and look dominant throughout. But the Germans have a Fritz Walter who plays really well in the rain and it pours and in the Adidas boots the German pull it off.

And it was held in the w**kdorf stadium. What could be better for a 15 yo boy to put in his GCSE coursework, the w*nked orff stadium :laugh2:

The w**kdorf stadium is where " Young Boys Berne" play isn't it ? !

I'll have to read up about that tournament.

Hope you got good marks for the essay !

Me too but he’s a Chelsea player and he’s replacing media favourite TAA so unless he’s faultless or we win comfortably I fear he will be the scapegoat if anything goes wrong.

Also, if he is the only change from Southgate then the most scrutiny will be on Gallagher.

I feel sorry for him already.

I actually liked Younes' review today. I think he makes some fair points

Younes I can tolerate, he's  ok .but Rory Jennings?

I've had to stop clicking on his blog , no good for the old blood pressure situation .

He hated Poch, called for him to be bombed on every vlog until it happened, then he was moaning about that. Lol.

I find Yann infuriatingly positive, Rory Jennings totally negative and Younes a bit of both. I get to the point where i am actually responding to the Tv with "That's bollox mate", at which point its time to turn off. Lol.

Couple of very late goals these euros as players tire at the death, Germany, Italy. Croatia an old team paid the price for not having enough legs to use their midfield.

big crowds, close matches, fun comp.
