Thiago Silva has already commited to blocking the shot. There is a simple pass right there to Palmer. It just seems like it's not there because you have become so used to watching the likes of Jackson, Madueke, etc f**k it up.

You can even go back a few frames before Jackson goes to shoot and there is space to pick Palmer out.

At about 6 or 7 seconds in he looks up and checks but decides to go it alone. Admittedly Palmer's movement is not ideal and Jackson doesn't really have a left foot but I would expect most players to make that pass.

Your own picture shows Palmer sprinting forward, this is why still frames don't work in the context of football.

Jim is right. 95 times out of 100 you would expect any journeyman footballer to make that pass.

He could even have dummied the shot to and rolled it across to Palmer, but Jackson doesn't possess that level of skill and he absolutely, positively, doesn't possess that level of football intelligence.

And 99 out of 100 times the defender knocks it behind or there's too much pace on it to beat the defender and the attacker won't get there. Just look at the picture FFS

You believe its not on at the time you showed because the daft sod put his head down and drove for a shot, I still think he has plenty of chance to square it. But more importantly plenty of times during the run he had loads of opportunities to pass it, change his run to get a pass angle, but chose early on not to even think about that. Just head down, run, hit. Utter sh*te.

The pass is very clearly on, even taking into account Palmer's less than ideal movement, before he to decides to go it alone. This isn't really up for debate.

You can however question whether Jackson is good enough to squeeze such a pass through, especially with his week foot.

It clearly is up for debate as I'm debating it.

Only way it gets to Palmer is him dropping off or Jackson getting lucky and squeezing it through the defenders legs with pace.

I know it's Thiago Silva but a better player there is able to make that pass. If it was the other way around and Cole was on the ball he finds Jackson with that pass.

I don't really begrudge Jackson for shooting though, most strikers will back themselves and shoot too but there's no need to pretend it's an impossible pass to make.

Even if that is the case, which i personally would dispute, what picture is in this guy's head at this point? Even without the pass which i think is on, or certainly should be ( i think Pedro passes and does so successfully, but we'll never know), but the yawning chasm at the far post at least offers two possible outcomes with Palmer also in the vicinity.

Palmer has three options and possibly completes any one of the three. He either bends the ball between Silva and the keeper (probably for Jackson to stuff over the bar), He checks back and twists his body to sit Thiago down or certainly mess up his movement and squares it, or knowing Palmer now, he probably tries to nutmeg Silva (in current form I'm not actually sure he pulls that one off)
