Has to go

he doesn’t organise his defenders and actually sucks confidence away from them

I think they are all guilty of it to be honest. You can just feel it all building in every match. One close shave, then another, then a big one goes unpunished, then it all starts unravelling and we concede. You can just feel a mistake is going to happen in every single game, and it does. We make at least half a dozen big errors at the back every game. One day, we are going to face a team really in the mood and they are going to smack 4 or 5 passed us.

It's like what that guy wrote on the beeb.

Gk and defence are interconnected, and unfortunately those are our weakest areas. I was actually worried about how thin/light our midfield was but with lavia back (i hope) its back to worrying about the back 5 (well 3 mostly, cbs and gk).

"Liverpool's second goal was a perfect illustration. The defensive line stayed high, but allowed Curtis Jones to run beyond it. Robert Sanchez, a little spooked by his earlier clash with the midfielder, hesitated on his line. Both parties are left blaming the other as the Reds celebrate.

There is plenty of time this season for Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill to turn into the rock-solid pairing the team need. They certainly have the talent, but they are not there yet. And until they do, Chelsea's weaknesses in goal will continue to be exposed."

Aye, which leads me to believe he may be average, not standing out one way or another.

Maybe another Petrovic.

Well, maybe we need to give the guy a chance to prove himself? He must’ve been #1 in a La Liga team at a young age for a reason.

Ive said all I need to about Sanchez, also believe theres a fine line between clown and genius in goal and Sanchez oscillates between the two.

His erratic performances will not help settle a defences nerves. his throwing distribution is improving, his shot-stopping is premier league level, crosses fine, but the fundamental flaw is his decision-making as demonstrated trying to pass it to Reece James and nearly giving it straight back to Liverpool for a goal. It happens pretty much every game.

for all of Petrovics faults, distribution being one of them, we just looked so much more solid with him between the sticks because he was more risk-averse. Sanchez willfully baits the press and we will come unstuck a fair few more times this season if it continues, which it will because its how the team is being set up to play.

As much as I like Sanchez for his shot stopping abilities, he just isn’t the right fit for the way we want to play. Yes he can kick it long but playing under pressure, he’s terrible.

Unlikely..but time for Jorgensen?

If we want to challenge at the top table we need to upgrade, if we don’t and continue to play him then being a team that possibly challenges for a top 4 spot is the very best we can hope for.

You don’t win titles with a dodgy keeper, the sooner the board realise this the better.

I agree. Getting a top keeper in should be our biggest priority, when it comes to signings. There are still question marks in almost all areas of the pitch (except for Palmer and maybe Caisedo I'm not entirely convinced about any of our players), but at least with the other areas, there are many good mostly young players who could realistically make the step up (Jackson and Nkunku isn't a bad striker pairing; Madueke, Neto and Sancho all have potential and are decent enough right now, plus we've got Estevao and Paez coming, Lavia looks very good provided he can stay fit; James and Gusto is a very good RB pairing provided they can stay fit; Cucurella has stepped up and Veiga looks decent; Colwill is a proper talent and there is still hope for Fofana), but I don't see any of our goalkeepers reaching the required level.

Next priorities for me would be

  1. a top CB
  2. another good midfielder, as I don't see Enzo being a long term solution, Dewsbury Hall is average at best and Chukwuemeka isn't given a chance. Maybe Santos is an answer if he keeps performing at Strasbourg, but the jury is still out on him.

Equally, everyone only had eyes for playing (I think) Nunez offside. Left the back door open.

Definitely agree that we should look to get a top tier keeper. I also don't think we need to rush into this decision. Sanchez is a good shot stopper so at least does the basics, and Enzo clearly wants us to play in a way that makes our keeper HAVE to pass out from the back. He said he expects us to concede more goals from passing it out the back this season, so clearly changing keeper won't immediately stop those problems.

I don't know whether getting used to the system will work but at the moment, all we can do is grit our teeth and bare it. A knee-jerk keeper purchase won't solve the issue... We've got enough keepers as it is!

Tbh, I watched the highlights earlier today and reece was badly at fault for not stepping up quickly enough and Palmer just dollallying back and not keeping up with Jones. There was soooooo much space!

I know reece is rusty and Palmer had an off day but damn that looked bad. The back door was a massive plane hangar door.

Ok, I am literally fighting off a panic or heart attack every time this guy has the ball at feet.

I will always back all our guys and I know it's only his 2nd season (or 3rd) but fk me, I can't take it. 1) How many mistakes did he make in rgds to distribution today? I'm genuinely curious if anyone knows.

I am reluctant and sry to say that i agree with most on here that we really really need a new keeper.

I read posts saying we're fine top 4 but need a gk if we want to be champions. I actually believe if we aren't top 6 or 4 then it's solely in the hands of this guy.

Sanchez is a good number 2 to have on standby. Jorgensen isn't ready yet and from training he's worse than sancho (would be on the pitch otherwise as we've seen maresca has balls (I.e lavia and Enzo jnr) to do whats right for the team).

2) Can Keller play with his feet properly? You know what I mean, lol. He's leaving to be a number 1 and they have the marshmallow-ville guy from euros as their new 2nd.

He was apalling today with his feet. You know it is bad when the commentators start calling it out (multiple times). It appears a mental thing as well - it is in his head, and that perpetuates the cycle of making mistakes, letting it play on his mind, so he hesitates or doubts himself, leading to more mistakes etc.

Telling that Liverpools 3rd keeper is better than our first.

I would go as far to say that out of all the keepers in the EPL, ours and bournemouths are in the bottom 3.

This and it seems it really affects our defenders too unfortunately.

25 long balls attempted.

6 completed.

Can’t defend him anymore.

Ditto, I'm still annoyed with his game today tbh.

Priority is a keeper in January or the summer. An older, settled keeper. Keepers mature at a later age, it's fine if we go for one a bit older than the rest of the grp, they can still reach their prime together.

I was in the MHL yesterday and the nervousness and gasps whenever Sanchez was on the ball reverberated around the stadium. I think he had a stinker yesterday and his confidence was clearly shot. I wonder whether he might do better away from home, as there almost seems extra pessure on him with 30,000 fans groaning after every mistake.

I don't know what the solution is. Give Jorgensen a try? What happens if Jorgensen is just as bad?

He's going to cost us much more then he saves us, including top 4. Last season was the same, he will make the odd great save and he's pretty good collecting crosses but his focus isn't there, he hasn't got it at the top level and the preshure on him to play turns him in to a liability, Give Jorgenson a go between now and Jan and if it doesn't look like the right fit go balls deep for Diogo Costa

Then we moan at the board for being so incompetent that they've managed to spend £100m on half a dozen GK's and all of them being bang average.

Hilarious that Liverpool paid £25m for Mamardashvili for next year and he's far better than any keeper we've signed.

There's a reason Poch binned him for a Keeper who wasn't even PL level.

He's not the worst shot stopper but everything else about him is pants, complete liability. There wasn't one Chelsea fan who couldn't predict this happening, there's no way he's going to be our main keeper after January. It'll only be a matter of time before he has another Arsenal game again and pisses everyone off.

The fact they managed to get Mamardashvili for that price is daylight robbery. Genuinely will be the best GK in Europe within the next 3 years. Gutting to say the least.
