There was no evidence that they were speeding, and any car can blow tyres.

Absolutely true.

Equally true that cars speeding are far more likely to flip over and burst into flames, than one going 30km per hour.

Here is a youtube video of a Lambo doing something very similar to what is being reported happened last night (warning - crash, flip and fire). Similar outcome to Jota's reported crash - although thankfully, in this case both passengers got out and survived. Again - in the video below, whilst the tire can always burst, it is far less likely to result in such a severe wreckage if they were going 40km per hr.

One should always know when to stop digging. Even if it means not having the last word.

I am not the one calling names. I am not the one getting angry. I am merely the one getting called out for stating that these young men (not just Jota - but footballers and overpaid youngsters in general) should really be forced to make better life choices to minimise the risk of this tragedy happening. If that makes me the names you call - then I so be it. I suggest ignoring me.

I dont have any skin in this game - he was not a friend or relative of mine, and other than the tragedy of a young family losing their husband and dad, which of course is always terrible, I really don't have any feeling other than remorse at yet another overpaid young man losing his (their) life needlessly.

The reality is that young men - regularly footballers - are getting into trouble by their bad decision making. That is a crying shame and I hope it never happens to our own players. I would hope the club put some clauses in their contracts to forbid them from driving cars that they are rarely (genuinely) able to handle.

But you are absolutely correct - I don't know what actually happened, and it is absolutely possible that they were popping out for a bottle of milk at 00:30 and were pottering around at a mere 30km per hour. Time and investigation will tell. Sorry you are so affected by this that you took offense to my comment about the choice of hire car. One mans "inappropriate" comment is another "life saving advice"

Your "inappropriate comments" are , according to you, in fact " advice"?

I'm comfortable with that.

Your comments are viewed to be unacceptable by many people.

I'm guilty of abusive language but I can live with that.

He can't bear everyone offering only sympathy without adding some criticism as well . He's decided that he needs to address it .

Everyone of us is aware of the possible causes, for now nearly all us offer sympathy to all concerned. It's the decent, appropriate response to this incident.

I'm happy to take a ban for this comment

I'll second this. Some of the comments he has made on the Jackson thread are a disgrace. One of them had something about shooting him in it. And now this complete lack of empathy to a poor young man that has just lost his life and left behind a young family.

There’s been no mention of speeding or reckless driving anywhere. Tire blew out while he was overtaking. sh*t can happen to anyone.

This. About 15 years ago I was driving along the M3 motorway in Southern England and one of the rear tyres blew out. I wasn't exceeding the speed limit which was 70 mph nor driving recklessly. I was shaken up but managed to get to the hard shoulder. It could have resulted in a nasty accident, not only for me but also for the other drivers. Fortunately it didn't. I've been driving for over 40 years and as you say it can happen to anyone.

Thank you for your opinion. I have disregarded it- because clearly you didn't read my post which explicitly (and empathetically) noted the terrible impact on the young family.

So many people want to get into an argument - It's so strange!

Thanks for your opinion.

We all deal with grief differently - some people cry. Some people go silent. So people get angry and lash out at the person who has passed. There is no right or wrong - despite what you would like us to believe.

What is "decent and appropriate" for you, may be different for others.... but hey, keep having fun up on your soapbox. We should all follow YOUR idea of mourning.

That must have been so scary - a nightmare scenario for any driver. Thank goodness that you were driving at a reasonable speed and were not driving recklessly - those sensible decisions you made almost certainly saved your life.Glad you and everyone involved were ok....

It is horrible to Imagine how much worse it could have been had you been driving fast enough to flip the car and have it burst into a fireball.

Ive had it happen to me twice, once while driving and once a passenger. Like you I managed to get to the hard shoulder without an accident, but only because it was early morning with next to no other cars on the road, was just complete luck really, and I was doing around 75mph as I always do on the motorway.

2nd time was a passenger in a mates car on an A road and we ended up in a field after going through a fence, car was a write off and as it went into a ditch and caved the front end in. That hurt.

Just remembered was also in a car when the bonnet latch gave up and it flipped up to the window so we could see f**k all, that was fun.

Super scary - awful to imagine....Glad you and your mate were both fine and were not going at such an irresponsible speed that led on to something even worse.

ABC now reporting that Spanish authorities have said speed was a factor.... the skid marks left on the road were looooonnnnngggggg.

It turns out the unnamed London footballer in his thirties was Thomas Partey all along!

He's finally been charged with rape... Just after Arsenal released him. I know they're between a rock and a hard place with allegations but these always seemed credible enough for at least to be suspended with pay pending a "no further action". It was only a some lucky timing on his behalf that stopped him being affected by a law which would have seen him charged a year+ ago.

And Arteta wanted him to sign a new contract only a week or so ago, I`m sure Sky and the rest will now be condemning Arsenal and Arteta..

Arteta emphasized Partey's importance to the team, stating, "He's a really important player for us. Yes, I want him to stay." With interest from clubs like Barcelona, Juventus, and teams in the Saudi Pro League, Partey's future at Arsenal remains uncertain

Yeah, they are more likely to praise Arsenal for “not giving him a new contract”.
