Watched Disorder at the Weekend, a French film about a combat veteren with PTSD working a security job for a dodgy (and very rich) Arab businessman. Very well acted and directed with some very tense scenes. The first half is quite slow moving but the main character's acute paranoia makes every mundane situation seem threatening.

Hard Target 2 (Scott Adkins) - typical b movie action and acting. Just about watchable.

Conjuring 2 - the usual haunted house possession stuff but based on a famous real life case on England. Quite silly, tbh.

For those who haven't seen it - and even those who have - The Wicker Man (the 1973 version with Christopher Lee) is on the Horror Channel at 9pm this evening. A classic film.

This is the scariest film I have ever seen. I could not bear to watch it again.  I'd rather watch the Exorcist!

It's one of the films about something which could easily happen in society. A bit like the Salem witch trials in the 1692-1693. That's probably why it makes it so scary unlike some horror films which are about things which could never happen or are just silly. Stephen King's books are similar to the Wicker Man in that some of them arre about things which could easily happen. Misery is a good example. Film adaptation with James Caan and Kathy Bates of the book is brilliant.

Exactly!  it's the plausibility of it that makes it so terrifying.  That last scene with Edward Woodward (won't mention what happens in case there are any Wicker Man virgins reading) makes my blood run cold.

I watcvhed two old British films last night. Both good stories in their own right

The Family Way , John and Hayley Mills and a host of good actors and actresses from that period. A working class family tale, story of generational differences and Britain as it changed in the sixties. Excellent 8/10

Kes  Another working class tale, boy training a young kestrel and his life at home and school, Ken Loach at his best  Excellent 8/10

Kes is a brilliant film. A few years since I've watched it so must watch it again. A great portrayal of working class life but with bits of humour in it. The scene with the football match is one of the funniest I've ever seen. The book by Barry Hines is worth reading.

Went to see Bridget Jones's Baby on Wednesday and loved it!  I didn't expect too much as I thought the last one was poor and I suspected that they were just flogging a dead horse or trying to milk a cash cow or whatever.  But this was probably even better than the first.  It even had scenes at Glastonbury (though I've never managed to be helped out of the mud by someone as dishy as Patrick Dempsey!)

Very very funny.

raging bull was on hbo last night and im started thinking what the hell happened to him, he's arguably the greatest actor of all time but since the 2000s it's like he fell down a rabbit hole of sh*tty comedy movies, i mean i watched dirty grandpa and it's just painful

I suppose he got to sixty and just didn't have it in him to keep playing such intense roles all the time anymore.

Bit like with athletes he's past his peak now so he's winding down playing easier roles now.

Still, what a filmography he has! Personal favourite is probably Taxi Driver.

I watched Louis Theroux's "My Scientology Movie" last night. I had been looking forward to this for a while.

Was interesting but it barely only scratched the surface, and was a bit of a disappointment, not much meat on the bone...

Have you seen Going Clear? That really exposed the Scientologists for what they are. I've not seen Theroux's movie yet but probably will since I like him and it's such an interesting subject.

Went to see American Honey recently, a road movie about a girl who is fed up with her sh*tty life and joins up with a 'mag crew' to travel around the US with a bunch of other misfits selling magazines door-to-door. It was quite long and probably could have been trimmed down a bit but was mostly very engaging. Most of the cast were just random people discovered on the street (including the star, Sasha Lane, who was spotted on a beach and is brilliant), which gives it a very raw energy.
