Do we have any good youth CB at the club that aren't on loan?

Papy Djilobodji is a 26-year-old centre-back who has played at FC Nantes for the past six seasons. He has yet to play a minute in the current campaign as he was angling for a move.

Previously he has been linked with Celtic, Sunderland and Trabzonspor - to give you an idea of his level.

Strong, great in the air, he is a warrior, but no more. He brings the experience of over 170 games in both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 - but there is no way he improves Chelsea's defence by any means.

He is uncompromising and takes no prisoners, but he can get caught out of position and can either be fantastic or a worry.

In his 31 appearances last season he picked up 11 yellow cards and Nantes conceded 29 goals when he was on the pitch - and just nine clean sheets.

I so want to start a thread for Papy Djilibodji.

 

I suggest the title "Welcome Papy Djilobodji.

We aren't going to win anything this season. Buying second rate defenders from a second rate league is just a panic buy.

No. Paying 60m for Stones would be a panic buy. We are short at the back and I'd rather the club wait for their real targets next season and get a temp solution now.

From Stones, Laporte, Varane and all other rumours or hype on here, we get this dude.

Jake Clarke-Salter was really impressive last season. Also captains the youth team at some level I think.

He's coming in to sitt on the bench people. The club have tried to get a top notch center back, it didn't happen, the club would be stupid to not buy some one just to make sure we have the back up. He probably won't see much game time

Stop gap solution unless he proves himself to be another 'under the radar signing' like Azpi or Ivan

Agree with Mayo's though, gotta admit I'm feeling deflated after all the top class CB we've been linked with. If Papy joins then I'll cheer him on and wish him the best though.

If this is the only player we bring in,i can see mourinho giving an angry press conference next week with lots of hints at the board

Is this a FIFA 2016 purchase?  WTF is this....desperate buy by the sounds of it....should using our kids if we are that desperate....this club has gone from bad to worse in its transfer dealings this season.

Sounds like a stop gap that will just kick his heels in reserves and make our bench occassionally. I still think one of our youth players would have been better off taking his spot.

€2.5m? This has to be a joke.

In trying to be cheap, Chelsea have shot their own foot this season with a no-name panic buy who will amount to nothing. Even making the top 4 will be a challenge this season.
