Kovacic would have been a good signing for 20m, very much in the modric mould.

Read something to say he is on his way to Real Madrid but your right he would be a quality option.

Isco isn't any better than Oscar. I would rather keep faith in the latter as he's sure to be important for us.

Very different style of player though

Yeah that's why I brought him mate. I think he is going to be top drawer, and he has played cm a fair bit, but he doesn't have the same aggression as someone like Verratti.

I'm still not opposed to playing Oscar on the right side. He's played there for Brazil, he can have good delivery from out wide, he's comfortable shooting from that side of the field.

I've been hoping for us to try it for a while, but we haven't had a backup CAM since De Bruyne and Mata..

I've also always thought Hazard is best suited in the middle. We literally need any AM available so Willian doesn't play.

I really hope we high-jack the Pedro deal. Pedro - Hazard - Oscar.

I think oscar is pretty good on the right aswell. Although I would only move him if we were to either play hazard central and buy another top class left winger like rues, or if we could sign a world class number 10, maybe isco or gotze.

Rather buy a winger than move Oscar. Hazard would be great playing directly off a striker. I feel like he wouldnt do so well or be nearly as threatening if you put him in Oscars role. Dont think there is any benefit in moving Hazard centrally

Also for what its worth, Sterling would be absolutely perfect on the right for us. If he has a clone somewhere thats who we should be after

My gut instinct is Oscar has a long term injury to his thigh. Hope I'm wrong. Where do I get that? Missed most of our season after January, missed copa Americana and missed last game. Ive been thinking this for some time.

Signings of AT LEAST three players approved by Roman Abramovich after sloppy start. (Mirror)

There remains the possibility another forward-thinking player could be added if a suitor can be found for Juan Cuadrado. (Guardian)

Mourinho indicated last Friday he was confident there'd still be “1 or 2” new arrivals, though that urgency has been heightened (Guardian)

Roman Abramovich has indicated he is prepared to re-enter the transfer market. (Guardian)

I said before the rahman deal we needed 4 players for me to have confidence in retaining the title, so I'm hopeful we end up with another 3 and we would set. Stones, witsel, pedro!

Probably just paper speculation I think we will make a final move for Stones and that's it.

I don't even think Stones is coming in. It's gonna drag on and we will end up empty handed.

we still need someone who can shoot from long range/outside the box. we so badly lack someone who can offer this to us and it hinders us terribly. we always had lampard or drogba, even ballack or essien, but now we have absolutely no one and our attacking midfielders aren't even that, because if they were, they would have long shots in their repertoire. can anyone here name a player in the current first team squad (who plays games) who offers this? I can't name anyone unfortunately. every team has at least one or two who offer this; we don't even have that.

edit: actually, oscar is probably someone who will have the occasional shot, but certainly not enough.

Pedro has agreed personal terms with Man Utd so we can leave that one out.

Don't see Stones happening now either I'm afraid. All the stories of us spending are based on nothing more than the City result.

It's probable that the club will fail in its bid for John Stones and no alternatives will be forthcoming.  It's equally probable that there will be no additional buys for other positions besides centre-half.

Due to the board's new-found stinginess and perhaps also due to Mourinho's rock-hard stubborness in protecting his favourites e.g. Ivanovic, Ramires, etc, I can see Chelsea finishing out of the top 4 and out of the CL after the first round.

Will Mourinho survive the season without getting the sack?

We're not gonna finish outside the top 4 ridiculous statement

Why is it ridiculous?  Cahill and Ivanovic are getting slower and more error prone.  Any forward and winger with a bit of pace would skin them alive and there will be many more such instances as the season progresses.  Terry is still a rock in defence but he can't do it alone and he's also aging.  The midfield is a disjointed unit and doesn't score goals and hardly create chances.  The backups would be more at home in Aston Villa's or Norwich's squads than in a title challenger one.  The club was lucky that the first team hardly changed its personnel last season.  Morever, Mourinho will NEVER EVER drop the likes Ivanovic, Willian etc.

I can see Chelsea conceding more goals than they have for the past 10 seasons unless Mourinho shuts up shop and plays six at the back which would also lead to a string of scoreless draws as the midfield and attack aren't up to scratch.

The only way to avoid such a catastrophe for all those connected to the club would be to buy a few more quality players to replace those that aren't up to the mark and provide competition to the rest.
