'BREAKING: ROMEU HAVING SAINTS MEDICAL'

'Saints hope to confirm a permanent deal for the midfielder later today'

Trimming some more of the fat in our squad

Good move for him. I think he was quite decent tbh

The latest name to emerge from the tangled web of deceit and intrigue is PSG right-back Gregory Van der Wiel.

Reports in France's Le Parisien says Chelsea are interested in a deal for the Dutch international.

Manchester United are also interested in the defender, who is 27 years old and a fair bit more mobile than Branislav Ivanovic.

Unfortunately for everyone except Branislav Ivanovic, PSG are not so keen on letting Van der Wiel go.

Chelsea have made an approach, the Parisien says. PSG are having none of it.

Alas.

we can't keep worrying about players we've let go and how they perform for other teams. things happen and you can't always keep a player around in hope he'll turn out to be a beast. matic got his experience playing in portugal in a good team in benfica, but that was a big learning process and he showed his class in his late teens/early 20's when he left here, so when we let a player like romeu go who is already 23 (nearly 24) and hasn't shown much to say he can cut it at the top level, i think it's a good decision on our part. if a player "has it" the majority will show their ability at an early age.

Chelsea and Roma neck and neck in transfer race for German star Antonio Rudiger

Jose Mourinho is keen on the powerful 22-year-old, who has already won six caps for Germany.

However, according to Sky Italia, Roma's initial enquiry over his availability was immediately rebuffed by the Bundesliga side.

But Rudi Garcia's men are set to go back in with a big-money offer for Rudiger this weekend, in the hope the former Borussia Dortmund youth star will move to Serie A.

Chelsea could also submit a bid of around £20m for the centre-back in the coming days, but Roma may move more quickly as they seek a replacement for Alessio Romagnoli.

Rudiger, who is contracted to the Mercedes-Benz Arena club until 2017, has yet to reveal if he wishes to leave Germany this summer.

Judging by Jose's words it seems Baba won't be the last signing.

"You can say ‘Why didn't we do our business before the start of the pre-season?' like we did last year but it's not because we don't want to, it's because it's not possible. So, in this moment, we are a bit limited but I have no doubt that the club will give the squad a couple more players."

Jose said there will be another defender for sure. Also dropped a line about having the money and 'moral' power to spend big

Read interview in both Mail and Mirror tonight, also guardian and telegraph friday night, and they all seemed to suggest his tact has either changed since the tour/swansea game and he has realised he does need 2-3 more players in, or this was the plan all along and he was keeping his cards close to his chest from the media.  In the Mail i think it was they referenced to Mourinho about him saying during the tour that the squad was good enough to compete as it is without additions to which he replied "thats what i said in pre-season"  "but could we maybe do with a couple of new players to improve?"

I think he planned to bring in 2-3 more all along perhaps and I couldnt help but think the "power to spend big" which we have always had since Roman, is a hint towards Stones or an attacker.  As unlikely as it seems, I just think we might end up with Pedro afterall

Are we going to sign Bale on deadline day? *sarcasm*

I can't see us getting a big name before the end of the summer, but we really really need a right winger and powerful centre mid. Pedro and Witsel would be a good pair to pick up and wouldn't cost a bomb, but really we should be looking at a marquee signing I feel, someone who will light up the league. One signing can make a huge difference, look at how different City look with Sterling in the side.
