March 9, 201610 yr Nothing to do with Chelsea or football but a midget car race at the Bridge in 1948. Looks like a big crowd.
March 9, 201610 yr some more pictures of the shed when we had no history and no fans lol Who would have thought that!! especially before 2004 Sometimes i do wonder from 1984 onward's was i really the only one who attended football and the others were just a mirage!
March 9, 201610 yr After watching the 70s edition of the TV programme "Back in Time for the Weekend" yesterday, I was all nostalgic for choppers (no sniggering at the back) - and then come on here and there's my favourite player of the time riding one! Ah memories! Choppers were sooooo cool - Colin from across the road used to give me a lift to school on the back! Edited March 9, 201610 yr by Beerqueen

March 11, 201610 yr I was talking to my mate last night and we got on to the subject of the benches. We both agreed that the last time they were actual benches and not concrete was 1981. They removed them after the Notts County pitch invasion we think. Is that right ?. Edited March 11, 201610 yr by Passed It
March 11, 201610 yr I'm pretty sure the benches were concrete with wooden tops up until 1985 and the Milk cup semi v Sunderland when the wood was used as javelins against the old bill, think after that they were just concrete, believe the club is paying large amounts of compensation to fans, as since 1985 many fans are being treated for piles!!!!!

There's a picture of a packed West Stand from the book I think it's called A view from the Bridge or something like that. It's from 1984 and I'm pretty sure it's just concrete. I used to sit in Gate 13 then and only went to the West Stand when they made Gate 13 East Lower the family section so you might be right your definitely right about getting the old Metric Miles ! Ah memories! Choppers were sooooo cool - Colin from across the road used to give me a lift to school on the back! Like all the kids in the '70's, I wanted a Chopper and got one for my birthday (must have been about 75/76 when I was about 12). Great looking bike but the reality was - being a skinny little kid weighing about 6 stone, they were a f**king heavy bike to cycle up hills. So as soon as I started cycling to school, I traded it in for a racer. Mine was Purple!!

(He was a skinny little kid too) I thought all choppers were yellow?! Maybe only in the early years - I'm talking about '72 I think. Edited March 11, 201610 yr by Beerqueen

We're the same as ever upto Sunderland milk cup semi. Then those lovely concrete blocks!! For those cold night games an evening standard was a good cusion, well worth it's 6p.
March 12, 201610 yr I wonder if the groundsman 'wasn't chuffed' at Ray Wilkins riding a Chopper bike on the training pitches. 'Bleeding players come in and ride their new bikes as if they own the place !' ' Bit of national service would knock that out of them.' During the war...'
