June 3, 201610 yr Cheers Boyne: I have seen that picture of the supporters hanging off the Main Stand at Ibrox for that 1945 game. The official Ibrox capacity back then I'm sure was about 130,000. Although the highest official attendance ever recorded was given as 118,567 v Celtic on 2nd Jan 1939. If you look at the walkways going down the terraces some are filled with supporters. There hardly looks room to move downwards ! Edited June 3, 201610 yr by erskblue

There hardly looks room to move downwards ! Thanks, Erskblue. Have found the picture of the Main Stand. As with the Bridge in the same year, H&S would have a heart attack if they saw where people stood and sat. Ibrox, like the Bridge, has changed so much over the years. The attendance for the game in 1939 is a record for league game in the U.K. My Grandfather was at Hampden for a Scotland v England game - just under 150,00 in the crowd.
June 3, 201610 yr Boyne: Cheers quite a big 'family gathering' my grandfather and his boss both attended back in Nov 1945 ! Great picture.
June 3, 201610 yr Who are we playing in that game above ? Apologies if it is obvious and I have missed it.
June 3, 201610 yr I knew those late 60s early 70s sticker and card obsessions of mine would come in handy one day, the other Palace players are, one of our old boys Alan Birchenall on the left and centre half John McCormick on the other side, and it's 70/71, FA Cup symbol by badge.
June 3, 201610 yr And that Palace shirt is claret, light blue pinstripes with a yellow collar. One of my non-Chelsea favourites.
June 5, 201610 yr That is great. Loved wee Wise. The big stadiums and hostile atmospheres seemed to elevate him. Remember against Galatasaray, CL in 99, wasn't Wise giving it the big 'un about how they called it "Hell?" Didn't he say "so what?" He also stuck a "who cares" sticker on the This is Anfield sign in their tunnel Think it was vinny Jones who got creative with this is anfield sign.
June 5, 201610 yr So what's that on the left? Fulham rd! They were dreaming, the small hotel and houses are still there along with the pavement. We don't even own land right up against the pavement apart from the entrances. H&S wasn't a problem either, just let everyone come out onto the Fulham Rd. Stadium after relegation 78/79 would have looked good, you could have picked your own row let alone your own seat!!

June 8, 201610 yr I think the earlier images were captioned incorrectly ? where it says "looking north from the Fulham road", I think it's actually looking towards the Fulham road from behind the North stand (Matthew Harding) and the flyover on the left is actually over the railway tracks behind the East stand. If you look at the above photo you can actually see the railway underneath the proposed motorway. Here's the overhead view. Edited June 8, 201610 yr by Fansince65
