Posted February 10, 201213 yr I really think this will be the final year of Drogba's career with us. You can debate all you want about if he is a legend or not, but I think he has to be considered one of the best forwards we have ever had at this club. EVER!!!!! A sulk and theatrical when he first came here, but we've had our most successful spell for silverware while he was the main point of pur attack, regardless of who was around him. My biggest gripe is the CL final, If you're going to get sent off, you should have punched Vidic rather than that wee slap Thanks Didier
February 10, 201213 yr I almost might have forgiven him if he had have really knocked Vidic out. The man must have fists like bricks surely he could have at least put Vidic out as well. As for this being his final year, it shall depend. If Torres can't work himself out, I'd actually prefer to see him leave and Didier mentor a young striker to take his place when he goes. I mentioned Damiao in the Torres thread, he'd be a perfect candidate, a goal machine with from all reports the physicality and more importantly the grace of Didier as well, something that Lukaku at this stage lacks, although this may come in term as he grows into his physique.
February 10, 201213 yr Didier Drogba is a personal hero of mine from the perspective of both a Chelsea fan and a student of international politics.
February 10, 201213 yr One of my all time favourites...often demonised in the press and slated by fans of other clubs (who all grudgingly admit when pressed that they'd have loved him to play for them) That Liverpool game in our second season, the first time we played them after the "ghost goal" and they had won the CL...I don't know if I've ever seen a better individual performance from any player. But for me his finest hour in a Chelsea shirt was not to do with Football...marching up to Ovrebo and telling him "Its a f*cking disgrace"...Brilliant ! Our press shamefully concentrated on villifying the Drog for that, while letting that incompetant buffoon of a ref get off relatively lightly, but I loved the raw outrage and sense of injustice that emenated from Drogba that night... (And incidently Graeme Souness went up in my estimation, back in the studio after that)
February 10, 201213 yr Love him, beast on his day. I'm sure some posters will use this thread to stick in a dig about Torres, however if you can just contain yourself for ONCE then that would be fantastic. Let's just praise Didier eh? Unless you're gonna mention Kezman etc, otherwise it starting to look a tad obsessive in a tiresome way. My favourite Didi moment - his header in the Carling Cup final for some reason... not his 2 FA Cup winning goals or his numerous PL ones... but we went 1-0 down and had our leader booted unconscious. He made it 1-1 with a cool finish but when Robben whipped in an inch perfect cross with only Didi in the box - he got so much direction, power and accuracy on his head that 5 goal keepers wouldn't have saved it. I don't blame him if he wants to leave, but would love it if he stayed. Legend? Well... I think so.
February 10, 201213 yr Drogs has always pushed my feelings from one end of the scale to the other as if I'm Bipolar, Hated his diving and moaning (I think hes cleaned that part of his game up a lot) and loved his power and skill, he actually won me over and I don't ever think about the things I didn't like and just feel so pleased hes been a Chelsea player in my lifetime, the way I feel about Zola, Ossie and Charlie Cooke. I always doubted he'd be a legend here because of his moods but the nearer he gets to leaving the more I feel he is exactly that. I still think hes got the physical attributes and the ability to have another couple of years at the top level and although I know this team needs a change of style I would be happy as Larry if he stayed.
February 10, 201213 yr Lazy Brillant Striker Immature Unstoppable at times Diver One of Chelsea best stikers in a while, better than JFH I dare say. Hero Villain Legend
February 10, 201213 yr If Barcelona are 'more than a club' then Drogba is undeniably more than just a footballer.
February 10, 201213 yr What should i say .. he is Chelsea, i started supporting the team somewhere around 2005-2006 and when i think of the club in my mind i imagine JT,Lamps and Didier. Edited February 10, 201213 yr by Rami
February 10, 201213 yr If Barcelona are 'more than a club' then Drogba is undeniably more than just a footballer. Poetic
February 10, 201213 yr Absolutely incredible forward whose given us some fantastic times. I would like to see someone else taking over goalscoring responsibility from him as we move to the next stage, whether that be Torres, Sturridge, Lukaku or another, but that takes nothing away from everything he has done for the club. Legend.
February 10, 201213 yr He was a diving, injury feigning knob. But he scored a hell of a lot of goals. But he probably cost us the CL final with his antics. But he's won us several other finals with his goals and all-round play. But when he doesn't fancy it he just strolls around and barely contributes. But when he's on form he's a beast and defenders can't touch him. He's.... something alright.
February 10, 201213 yr Unstoppable at his peak. Great player. Seems a great human being. Hated his diving and theatrics. He still does it, though not as bad as before. And there are times when he seems to just go through the motions rather than really putting in a full shift. But he's still been a fantastic player for CFC. Club legend, for sure.
February 10, 201213 yr Incredible player. Complex character (euphemism for 'a pain in the arse at times'), but a true hero of mine for what he's contributed to our success. Will miss him when he goes (as I'm missing him while he's at the ACN*). *subtle Torres dig.
February 11, 201213 yr Didier Drogba... I don't know of a player that makes me scream for joy or drives me to rage like our Didier. Incredible talent, and one of the best of this generation. I fully believe it. He's had some games where he's carried the lads on his shoulders. He's also one that makes me want to toss something at my TV when he's just "not in the mood" to give it his all. The man has done boatloads for this club. Add him to our CFC legends, absolutely. Add to the fact that his entertainment value, good or bad, is usually pretty high.
February 11, 201213 yr Simply the best striker in it's most successful era, and IMHO a top 5 all time Chelsea hitman. I will never forget my youngest daughter's birthday, Sept 17th 2006 at home against the Dippers, brought the ball down spun and launched an Exocet past that mug Reina....genius
February 11, 201213 yr What a goal that was. Just something else. Arguably his best goal for the club, and I'd say one of the finest I've ever seen scored by any Chelsea player.
February 11, 201213 yr The best thing about it is that he repeated the feat against Barcelona weeks later, just for sh*ts and giggles. His best goal, for mine, was that 35 yard half volley against Everton. That was incredible. When he signed in 2004, Lampard said "he can be our Henry". Most laughed at his barging, clumsy style and niggling injuries made 24 million look like a big waste. How they were wrong!
February 11, 201213 yr Here is a video I took in the Emirates in our double winning season. A delicious Drogba free kick. I just had a feeling from the angle and distance that Drog would put it away. This is the probably the one and only video I have taken at a Blues game!
