Gem Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 What do we do with him? Do you think he should be sold? Kept? What do you think Robbie'll do? Personally, I like him and I'd keep him if he wanted to stay and fight for his place. He chases every ball, hurries defenders and has a bloody good work rate - something I feel we lack a bit in our central midfield (bar Rambo of course). I don't think it should hamper young Joshua if Robbie works it right and I'd prefer him coming off the bench or even starting ahead of Malouda and Essien. We've never particularly been bullied off the ball, we just need someone who can thread a pass through the eye of a needle and work some space; I think Benayoun does that more than the other two. I think he'll go if there's a good offer, but at certain points last term I think we could have used him.
Valerie Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Totally agree with you Gem.He won't get a starting place often, but he can be very influential from the bench I'm sure. I'm curious to see what's going to happen with him, will he get some decent playing time in the US matches, Robbie needs to see him at work in a Chelsea environment.
Zeta Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Just another body for the sake of a body, in front of the likes of Josh and Piazon. No thanks.
superdan Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 He made some important contributions at arsenal last season and I think he still has something to give and prove if he gets any time to do so
That Boy Brandinho Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I liked him well enough when we bought him and we certainly could have used him last year but I'm not sure he's necessary now. I'd sooner get rid of Malouda and Essien, but I wouldn't mind if all three are gone.
jack_super_class Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I like Benayoun, actually disappointed we let him go out on loan last season but if we got a decent offer for him i would let him go.I'd prefer Kakuta and Piazon to play over him.
The Moos Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Tough call. I like him and think he still can do some good for us, but on the other hand we have some youngsters that we really should give a chance in the first team and if the rumours are true we are after some good midfielders as well. So even if I believe he can do well here I would not mind letting him go. But that all depends on whether or not we actually do get some new players and if we send players like Josh out on loan.
Maksimov Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) Just another body for the sake of a body, in front of the likes of Josh and Piazon. No thanks. If Josh and Piazon are playing well enough, I'm sure they'll get their chance. If they're not, Benny could be a useful player for us. Not that I think these players are in direct competiton with each other anyway, mind you. Edited July 16, 2012 by Maksimov
Remodez Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Didn't like him when we got him and I still don't. Just a waste of space that would be better given to Kakuta, for example. And with the players we've already got he won't really be missed.
Celery1989 Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Sell, sell, sell. He's an ageing waste of space in our squad which already has enough dimunitive creative players. Not to mention that he's another obstacle in front of the youngsters. I don't think he's ever really been good enough for us either, certainly not as a starter. Still can't believe he made that tweet after the 5-3 against Arsenal...who pay your wages Yossi?

Fearnley Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I can't believe the amount of people still dreaming that kakuta is going to be a good player...he has continuously proven on loan that he is not going to reach the amount of hype that he brought to the club

dkw Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 And at the ripe old age of 21, he can't possibly get any better! And I guarantee that year out he had due to injury and a disgraceful ban had no effect on his career. Bin him now, who needs him.....
That Boy Brandinho Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 And I guarantee that year out he had due to injury and a disgraceful ban had no effect on his career. Bin him now, who needs him..... Agreed, bin him immediately. On another note, have I mentioned how disgraceful it is that we can't develop youngsters at this club? For the life of me I can't figure out why.
Uno Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I can't stand the guy. The way he celebrated with arsenal against us last season was distasteful and some interviews he gave made it clear he didn't want to play for us. Get a few mill for him and I will be pleased to see the back of him. Also it's just another squad place taken up.
ozboy Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Was a good player. May still be a good player. Proven in the premier league too unlike some of the youngsters. However he does seem in the same mold as the other attacking midfielders, small, nippy, more or less creative, not going to dominate a game though. Did have a good record of setting torres up although maybe that was more alonso and gerrard. Very hard to assess his form v others by just rabbiting away on the internet.

For the life of me I can't figure out why. I will swallow my own testicles if he can force himself into our first team...I can list so many reasons why he is a bad footballer he is indecisive, doesn't score enough goals, doesn't provide enough assists, he's greedy, he can't stand out in the worst teams in the league? I'm not being funny but Sturridge went and had a cracking loan spell and even he couldn't hold down his place in the first team so let us move on to the brighter talents at our disposal
Remodez Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 He made some important contributions at arsenal last season and I think he still has something to give and prove if he gets any time to do so I don't remember anything of any importance he did at Arsenal, not saying it didn't happen just don't recall it happening. Even Ramsey was getting games ahead of him, says it all really.

I'm not being funny but Sturridge went and had a cracking loan spell and even he couldn't hold down his place in the first team so let us move on to the brighter talents at our disposal He scored 29 goals in his 3 seasons at Liverpool. He had 6 for Arsenal despite only playing 25 games. Saying he doesn't score enough goals is complete bunk. He's not a huge assist man but he's not greedy either. I'm not even sure what you're trying to say with "he can't stand out in the worst teams in the league". Are you trying to say he didn't stand out when he played for West Ham or are you trying to say that he doesn't stand out against poor competition? I'm not sure which interpretation is less rational so I'll just say I disagree and move on.
evissy Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I'd say we should sell. He is and was a bit part player but if we sell Essien we might want to hang on him for a season. No news on Essien leaving or anything...
