Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce Frank Lampard has signed a one-year extension to his contract.

Already the third-highest appearance-maker in the club's history, next season will be the vice-captain's 13th at Stamford Bridge.

Ron Gourlay, Chelsea FC Chief Executive, said: 'Frank has been an important player for Chelsea Football Club for a long time and has played a significant part in the club's success.

'We have been talking to him since the end of last year and our discussions have been entirely positive throughout. We are delighted we are now announcing an extension to his contract which will keep him at the club until 2014.'

Lampard added: 'I'm absolutely delighted. Everybody knows I always maintained the dream was to stay at Chelsea. We've been talking for ages and even though it went on for quite a period it was always amicable.

'I want to thank Mr Abramovich for everything he's done in making the dream a reality. I love this club, the staff, the players and especially the supporters, who have treated me fantastically since the day I arrived.

'The thought of helping the club to more success in the forthcoming years is all I ever wanted. I couldn't be happier.'

Lampard became the club's record goalscorer amid wonderful scenes at Villa Park last Saturday when he surpassed Bobby Tambling's 202 goals, an incredible feat for a midfielder.

Since signing from West Ham United in 2001, Lampard has won the Champions League, the Premier League title on three occasions, the FA Cup four times, the League Cup twice and last night in Amsterdam he lifted the Europa League trophy.

He was voted the Chelsea Player of the Year in 2004, 2005 and 2009 and among many other individual accolades he has been the Football Writers' Footballer of the Year and runner-up for both the FIFA World Player of the Year and European Ballon d'Or.

The 34-year-old is also our top FA Cup and league scorer in top-flight football.

In April he became only the third person to play 600 games for the club. He has made 560 starts and 47 substitute appearances.

Should have been sorted a long time ago, but now we can put it to bed.

Relieved, pleased for Frank, and looking forward to next season.

Truth is it could have been sorted out at the same time as when Ashley signed his deal but Frank held out for the best possible deal for him - can't blame him for that

I couldn't have said better than Patrick Barclay did in the Evening Standard yesterday:

"There may be no Sir Alex Ferguson in the Old Trafford dugout next season, or Paul Scholes on the pitch, but there will be a Lampard at the Bridge — and that’s living, breathing and thriving history."

Great news, and a deal that should suit both parties. And so much for Roman's revenge and all the Frank is definitely not getting a new deal and is off to Man U/LA/Italy/China stories. Goes to show how little the media actually know about what is going on at the club, hence why most of the time they just make things up.

Good news. Now we've at least got a few months before it all starts again next season worrying he won't get another year.

Done and dusted! 'Delighted' Lampard signs new one-year deal at Chelsea and he vows to bring more trophies to Stamford Bridge

By Matt Barlow

When Frank Lampard looks back on 203 goals in 12 years at Chelsea, his double at Bolton always springs into his mind.

It sealed the first Barclays Premier League triumph under Jose Mourinho in 2005 and, as  Lampard signed for one more year at Stamford Bridge yesterday, those twin themes were back on the agenda.

After winning the Europa League on Wednesday and completing a set of major club honours, the  34-year-old fixed his view on a fourth Premier League title and anticipated return of Mourinho.

Chelsea are serious about overtaking the two big Manchester clubs next season and interim manager Rafa Benitez has predicted a £100million recruitment drive from owner Roman Abramovich this summer.

‘I’d love to win the Premier League again,’ said Lampard. ‘It’s a huge priority to challenge next  season. It will be a big task but it’s the main one.

‘Our Premier League consistency has not been good enough and we have to address that. We have a great squad and we can do better than we did at times this year.’

Chelsea appear to have detected vulnerability in Manchester after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement and the dismissal of Roberto Mancini.

The club expect to confirm their new manager in the second week of June but Lampard spoke yesterday as if he was confident Mourinho will be in control.

‘If Jose comes back it will be a huge lift for the club,’ he said. ‘He’s the greatest manager in our history and changed the whole belief of the club; made us into a winning club.

‘It will lift the fans and the  players. Those who haven’t worked with him understand he’ll come in and give them an extra edge. Hopefully that will take us back to being that consistent force.

‘We need to get back to that  battering ram, winning mentality — winning games 1-0 even when we weren’t at our best.

LAMPARD ON HIS GOALS

'I don’t know how I got that many goals. It’s surreal and seeing things like that does make you realise. I’ve been here a long time and been fortunate enough to play in a good squad who put them on a plate for you sometimes. You can see with all the tap ins over there.

'I’m very proud of it. It’s a great honour to be at a club this long. I didn’t think I’d be here 12 years, let alone to get the record, let alone to win 11 trophies. As you get older you start to be more reflective and think: Wow, I’ve been very fortunate and I’m proud to be such an important part of the history of the club.

'My favourite goals were the ones against Bolton, the two of them probably. And the 203rd one felt quite nice.'

'I remember them all. I couldn’t see what each ball was but once I approached them they were there in the memory bank. I love goals. I’m addicted to the idea of scoring from midfield. I don’t want to sound selfish because I want to get my all round game good.

But the feeling of scoring goals, particularly in big games, you can’t beat. It is one thing I’ll miss that when I’m not playing.

'I don’t know how many more I will score. I’m happy with what I’ve got at the minute. I don’t look past next season. I want to continue to the same standard as this season. I’ve got 17 and I’d like to get that again and more if I can.'

....

‘When we won under Jose, we got criticised for being so dogged. There’s a happy medium somewhere and we must certainly get back to being a bit more dogged.’

With this war-cry came a confession that there was a little relief when Ferguson announced his retirement, last week.

‘I’ve huge respect for him and loved watching him on the touchline with his aggressive manner and passion,’ said Lampard. ‘I’ll miss seeing that but, of course, it’s going to be a huge change for them and whether they can adapt remains to be seen. It will be difficult. He’s been so good, who wants to follow Alex Ferguson? I have huge respect for David Moyes. We want to jump above United but I certainly think David Moyes is a great acquisition.’

Lampard claimed his new deal did not hinge on Mourinho’s return. ‘I signed for the club,’ he said. ‘I’ve had 10 different managers here, so I know the ropes.’

Benitez and his assistant Bolo Zenden leave after two friendly games against Manchester City in the United States. John Terry and Eden Hazard will not be fit to travel on the post-season tour.

Although yesterday was a day off for players, Lampard was at the Bridge to confirm his £120,000-a-week, 12-month deal and see an installation commissioned by  adidas in honour of the goal record he now plans to extend.

‘There’s no secret I wanted to stay here,’ he said. ‘It’s definitely my home. I’ve been here a long time and have appreciated and enjoyed the last couple of years more than anything. We’ve won another trophy and I have the desire to do even more.

‘There was a time around January and February when I thought I might have to move on. It was certainly a consideration. I’d been injured for nearly two months. It was a funny time for me. The club were looking to move forward. I understand that.

‘As you get past 30, people are very quick to write you off after a couple of games where you’re not at it, so I’ve tried to keep my head down and let my football do the talking.’

There were options for Lampard to move abroad, including Los Angeles Galaxy, but he spoke to England manager Roy Hodgson and agreed that a long-haul transfer may not help his international career.

When 2013 started with a flurry of Lampard goals, Abramovich softened his stance and talks were opened with the midfielder who will be 35 next month.

‘We’d been speaking for a period of time,’ said Lampard. ‘But there was a situation at the club with an interim manager and the new manager had not been made clear yet.

‘There were a few different things and I had to make sure what was right for me. But I didn’t come close to anything else and I told my agent my desire was to stay.

‘It’s a different club this year but I’ve enjoyed the transition, playing with some of the young players coming in. I have a belief that I can go on, not just for this extra year but further than that and I’m excited to be part of the future.’

Hang on! Hang on!

"‘We’d been speaking for a period of time,’ said Lampard. ‘But there was a situation at the club with an interim manager and the new manager had not been made clear yet."

Are you lot thinking what I'm thinking?

I think I am, Millie.....

Hang on! Hang on!

"‘We’d been speaking for a period of time,’ said Lampard. ‘But there was a situation at the club with an interim manager and the new manager had not been made clear yet."

Are you lot thinking what I'm thinking?

i dont...

Now i know what your thinking, 'oh for f**ks sake its another troll f**k off w**ker', well believe it or not you are actually horrendously wrong, i am nothing more than a man who hails from Salford,Greater Manchester, England who just happens to suport a team that are known famously to don the colours of red, black and white with a golden crest bearing a red devil as it's center piece but thats not why im here, the reason im here is to do with two players, two English players, as you read what i am about to say i suggest you do so with the voice of David Attenborough for the effect i feel is needed for you to succumb to your senses.

Frank Lampard is a Chelsea hero, Frank Lampard is a goalscorer, Frank Lampard is Chelsea's top goalscorer, since 2003 Frank Lampard has been surrounded by world class players from all over the world and it is this reason why i do not rate Frank Lampard, the man is nothing than a tag along an overrated player, a deep lying goal poacher, a ghost on the pitch so much such so that when he appears out of nowhere to score a goal the oppostion never even were aware he existed, the man has never in the entirety of his Chelsea career dominated a midfield, every time i have ever watched Chelsea play with him apparantly on the pitch I've never once seen the man, He's a ghost he is by no means one of the greats of English football far from it, 208 miles south of it to be exact.

"Here are some quotes about Paul Scholes; My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder."
Zinedine Zidane

"Scholes is undoubtedly the best midfielder of his generation."
Zinedine Zidane

while at Chelsea being asked in an interview who’s the best English player: "Paul Scholes.”

Juan Sebastion Veron

"Every one of us midfielders is just trying to become as good as him. Everyone can learn from Paul Scholes
Edgar Davids,

"In the last 15 to 20 years the best central midfielder that I have seen the most complete is Scholes. I have spoken with Xabi Alonso about this many times. Scholes is a spectacular player who has everything. He can play the final pass, he can score, he is strong, he never gets knocked off the ball and he doesn’t give possession away. If he had been Spanish then maybe he would have been valued more."
Xavi

"Out of everyone at Manchester United, I would pick out Scholes, he is the best midfielder of his generation. I would have loved to have played alongside him."
Pep Guardiola

"The player in the Premiership I admire most? Easy – Scholes."
Patrick Vieira

"He is the one whose level I aspire to. He is the best player in the Premier League."
Cesc Fabregas

"I can’t understand why Scholes has never won the player of the year award. He should have won it long ago. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t seek the limelight like some of the other ‘stars’."
Thierry Henry

"If you ask footballers to pick out the player they most admire, so many of them will pick Paul Scholes. He can tackle, and his passing and shooting is of the highest level. He’s the most consistent and naturally gifted player we’ve had for a long, long time."
Alan Shearer

"I tell anyone who asks me – Scholes is the best English player."
Laurent Blanc

Ban me if you want, but Lampard is absoulutley sh*t in comparison.

Lampard has dominated many a game. You obviously haven't watched Chelsea much over the last 10 years.

His range of passing is incredible and very underrated and the stats don't lie when it comes to goals and assists.

In comparison, Scholes is not fit to clean his boots.

Good day.
