I agree (re: double season), but we had the machine that was Frank Lampard who would guarantee you a double digit goal tally in the league (and 20 goals a season in all comps).

If you want to have title aspirtations, you need to have a striker who can provide 20 goals a season domestically and have others who will chip in with the goals. We fulfill the criteria with the latter but don't with the former, yet, and I hope that that will be resolved this summer.

lukaku will easily bang in 20 if given the starting place

You're joking, right?

2010 - 2011 - 1 goal

2011 - 2012 - 6 goals

2012 - 2013 - 8 goals

Total - 15 goals

Getting better....

Might get double digits next season.

this leads me to believe that all the torres defenders and those saying he should be given more time need a reality check. those people are either delusional or barely even watch chelsea matches

I watch every game and sometimes go the match if i can get time off work to go down to London. But i never realised his league return was so poor, he seems to have scored a fair few goals for us since he signed, the majority of which must be in Europe.

ivan, luiz, terry and cahill have 28 goals between them. mata and hazard have about 30. ramires has a bit less than 10 i think.

we are scoring from all positions and obviously arent dependant on our striker. we just need someone who isnt completely useless half the time

well i dont know what you ultiamtely feel about torres and his situation at chelsea but i just cant help but think those saying 'he proved his critics wrong' or that he had a 'decent return of 20 goals this season' are delusional

Well i'm very well aware that he's nothing like the Torres that played for Liverpool but u have to admit that this last season has been a dramatic improvement on the season and a half before. I was honestly quite surprised to look at those goal statistics.

22 in 66 doesn't look all that bad, as it was said, until you notice the teams he has scored against. If I remember right the only top team in the EPL he scored against was Arsenal, right?

Was a bit surprised to see him back in contention for Spain's CONF Cup squad. But he's always done well for Spain. Good luck to him. Hope makes the cut.

I don't think Spain have a lot of options in terms of strikers anyway.

They've only selected 3 strikers but about 12 midfielders.

I feel sorry for Mata really. How many games has he played this season? Hopefully he doesnt get selected and can go and have a nice rest somewhere.

Saying that i dont feel sorry for Mata's bank balance.

He managed a goal against Everton too, still pretty far from being decisive in our EPL campaign in fact a lot of times he was holding us back in those big matches by constantly loosing possession or failing to make runs inside the box.

The problem is Torres will be a lot harder to get rid off.

Don't buy that and I fully expect Torres to be off.

People forget Hasselbaink. He had at least a year left on his contract when Jose turned up and he was on good money. Okay, not as much as Torres but he was on very good money for the time. Part of the reason we were in so much financial trouble when Bates sold was the fact we were paying top dollar for players and living beyond our means.

Anyway, Jose turned up and got Jimmy off the books immediately, selling him to Boro. Jimmy didn't even get a training session even though he subsequently came out and said he wished he had. Jose simply got him in his office and said he wasn't going to play him and he would help him secure a move. He will do the same with Torres.

Sure, Torres can sit out the next 2 years and rot but he won't want to do that and Jose won't let him anywhere near a training session if he doesn't want him. We may have to supplement his wages but I'm convinced he's played his last game for Chelsea.

If so, he went out on a high, which is good, but let's face it, he's nowhere near good enough for us and we all know it, and you can bet your bottom dollar Jose knows it too.

He's off folks. I promise you.

Negredo and Rubén Castro should feel hard done by this selection and I can't understand both Villa and Torres being taken to the Confederations Cup ahead of players who constantly played for their clubs and were decisive in the League.

Im not so sure. Jimmy's wages were affordable by other teams at the time. There are only a select group of teams that can afford his wages and because they can afford his wages they will go and get a striker better than Torres.

I think the only way out for us is to loan him out and pick up part of his wages like we did with Veron, Sheva and Crespo.

Ether that or someone should stuff some coke up his nose and we can sack him like we did Mutu lol.

What we are also not taking into account is the owner. He may not want Torres sold and may demand Jose keeps him. Story goes that Robbie asked for a new striker last summer and A.Madrid offered us Falcao but Roman turned the deal down as he wanted Torres to be the main man.

I guess Negredo is just one of those players who regardless of their goal record just isn't fancied at international level, bit like Darren Bent for England.

Speaking of Negredo, is available for transfer or is off somewhere already?

Are players really all that excited about the Confederations Cup? I've always thought it's just a way for the hosts to try how their venues work and the national teams involved can try out some youngsters or fringe players with some of the more established players. I'm sure some of the star players who have played tons of matches during the season would rather take a little rest than travel to Brazil to play more matches.

To be fair Bent has had his chances with England.

It always seemed to be in friendlies where he would either be coming on as a sub or in a much changed starting line up.

Comparing the opportunities/chances given to players such as Defoe and Peter Crouch and I think Bent was a unlucky personally.

The way I see it a player like Ruben Castro or Negredo would be really excited to play for the Best National Team side in probably the last few decades. Specially if they are able to help them win another trophy. That's why I was surprised by this selection - I'd understand Del Bosque selecting Villa and Torres for a World Cup but for a Confed Cup he really should have selected based on merit over the last year.

Negredo has something like 6 goals in 14 matches for Spain which is quite a nice little record, he is younger than all the strikers Spain has selected for the Confed Cup.

Casto has never been selected for the Spanish National Team, this was his last chance I recon specially after the two seasons he has had, 64 matches in La Liga and 34 goals
