Sentimental reasons and to placate their fans at the loss of Falcao?

Well they appeased their fans for the sale of Aguero by signing Falcao.

I think the expectation levels at A.Madrid are higher than resigning Torres especially with Champions League football next year.

It would probably be seen as a bad signing by the Madrid fans despite any sentiment they may hold for Torres when he played for them previously.

The best thing we could have done is include him in a deal for Falcao. I think Torres would have taken a wage drop to go back to the club he supports BUT it seems we've lost out on Falcao.

I dont think we can include anyone as part exchange because of the 3rd party ownership, they will just want straight cash. They certainly wont want a player like Torres.

But it wouldnt just be Torres. They could also go out and splash 30 mill on a new striker as well.

I just think the 3rd party thing will mess any chances of a swap up. I think the only chance we have is they want to buy Torres to replace Falcao and placate there fans.

I reckon Torres will be a demon (by his standards) in the two games against City, he'll score more than one goal and everyone will get excited.  We won't move him on in the summer, mainly because he'll refuse to go anywhere.  Then next season he'll be sh*t again.  Everyone will repeat what they've said dozens of times already in this thread and we'll have a mass suicide in time for Christmas as the thread reaches 1000 pages.

Come on now, this is Spain we are talking about, the Country that is Bankrupt, they will Probably say, yes we take 30mill, but you keep Torres we cannot afford him.

I reckon some teams in Russia would be willing to take a punt on either Ba or Torres and get one if not both of our hands.  Both Anzhi and Zenit definitely have enough money to buy them ad give them matching wages, maybe even CSKA too now that they just won the Russian PL and will be in the UCL next season

Hahaaa. The guy clearly read some of our posts. I remember writing similar sh*t a few hundred pages back. That was just to take his side but I guess that explains a lot why we won and Liverpool lost when they burned almost all the money to Carroll. I don't know who the writer is but I like the way he looks behind the numbers and don't just look at Torres' sad face with £50mill flop written above it.

Well this summer will be interesting.

I'm pretty open to any scenario next year - but I think it is slightly more likely that that we'll be seeing Torres back next year than not.

I think that with the team that we have, we have more than the ability needed to win the league next year, without any additions.  I also think that we are heavily invested emotionally and financially with Lukaku - and the aim for him is to be out number one striker - the only question is when.  If we ship out Lukaku on another year's loan - I'd presume that Torres and Ba will hold the fort for a season, and see what selling options there are for either of those two in a years time.  In fact, with the style we're playing now, with interchangeable positions, and a whole host of midfielders getting involved in the attack - I wouldn't really be adverse to us going into the season with only one recognised striker.

yes, that worked out so well this season.

yes, that worked out so well this season.

I think considering the young players brought into the team this year we had a pretty solid season.  It was definitely the rebuild season that AVB was supposedly hoping for.

A year without the managerial distractions and a more gelled attacking unit who have been playing together for a season will be a huge improvement.

I don't want to disrupt the players that we've got here by throwing in more than 1 or 2 players, and let their development continue.  Having Torres/Ba up front is fine for me, looking into the long term of Lukaku being the number one choice up front in 2014/15.

I think if our only strike options upfront next season are Torres and Ba we are looking at another fight for top four and Europa League. Premier League defences have got Torres worked out and Ba isn't good enough.

Its not that Torres has been worked out, its that he's sh*t.

Since when is Torres sh*t? I was the first one against signing him, but that was more because of the fact that he abused us everytime while he played for Liverpool, and because I knew how much money we would spend... but to call him sh*t? At one point he was top 3 or 4 strikers in the world. True, that we didn't have him at that point, and true that we might never have him repeat that. He's been in bad form for some time, but he is still under 30, and to call him sh*t is just... well sh*t!

he wasnt sh*t 4/5 seasons ago. but now, after 3 sh*t seasons, with a sh*t goalscoring record and with him earning a sh*tload of money in the process, i think its more than fair to call the present fernando torres... sh*t

I don't like criticising players but come on, strikers are judged on goals

6 league goals last season = Sh*t

8 league goals this season = Sh*t

I understand your points, but that's not what I'm saying. My point is I wouldn't call one Ryan Giggs sh*t because he doesn't perform as well as he did in the '90s. Torres is nowhere as old, and nowhere as done as Giggs is, but to call someone sh*t who has done so much in their career is real sh*t!

There is a massive difference between the present and the past.

George Best WAS world class.

George Best IS now sh*t, because he's dead.
