September 22, 201213 yr To be honest, I don't care how well he plays, if he somehow ends up with 20+ goals at the end of the season, that will be good enough for me! See for me this is the problem, I don't care how many goals he scores, I want him to play well and for the team to score, if he scores bonus!
September 22, 201213 yr Well since everyone is giving their opinions for the 6th time, I think regardless of whether he plays well or not, whether or scores or not, the Torres "situation" has become too large and is distracting the whole club. Every week it's the same.. will Torres finally score some goals? Will he play well? What will his reaction be if he gets subbed off? These are distractions we do not need, we should be focused on the team as a whole, not one man. If someone came in with a reasonable offer for him in January, I would take it.

September 22, 201213 yr £30m That might be a little too much, depending on how well he does over the next few months.
September 22, 201213 yr I would take as little as £15m just to get his £175k a week off the effin wage bill.
September 22, 201213 yr I would take as little as £15m just to get his £175k a week off the effin wage bill. So to replace him would cost a minimum of £40m and then the wages would be either the same or more, not sure if your economis work out on this 1!
September 22, 201213 yr Why does it have to cost £40m just to sign a striker who can score? There are plenty out there who could cost a lot less than that who would no doubt score more goals than Torres does. Look at Newcastle for example. They spent peanuts on Ba and Cisse compared to Torres's fee and they've done really well. Just because we can pay £40m for a big name doesn't mean we have to.

Who do You suggest that we sign for less than £40m and remember this is Chelsea so A) The price will be inflated. B) This is Chelsea we will go for a name not necesarily a talent,
September 22, 201213 yr What are his current strengths exactly? He doesn't seem to be able to go past opponents by virtue of either speed or trickery or physical strength or any combination of those three. I suggest you get yourself a copy of the Chelsea v Juve game and then come back and amend your post. I have just finished re-watching the first half hour of that game and he has gone past opponents with speed, trickery and physical strength, all the best moves were started by him not to talk about the pressure he put on the Juve’s ball carriers, the sheer class with which he plucked that ball out of the air with his right leg. The man looks sharp , determined and skillful. It is Sky 401 that you people watch during games isn't? And not Sky 901? Edited September 22, 201213 yr by Killbill

I think its because everyone seems to think falcao would be his replacement. Although he would be a great signing there are plenty of strikers about that I think we could sign. Leandro damaio, Robert lewandowski, and luuk de jong. Then I think if you shop at level Newcastle have, you would be buying players I don't think you could justify replacing Torres with. Still hoping that he'l bang them in thus season. Edited September 22, 201213 yr by big blue
September 22, 201213 yr Then I think if you shop at level Newcastle have, you would be buying players I don't think you could justify replacing Torres with. Why? Because he's been such a rousing success?
September 22, 201213 yr A world-class striker is always a threat, no matter what the circumstances. More often that not, Torres is not a threat. Simple as. This is the crux of the matter, Torres is no longer playing on instinct, he is thinking before he gets a chance and lack of confidence in himself is forcing him to make the wrong decisions. Against QPR Hazard broke towards the box and drew the defenders to him on the edge of the box, he slips a ball into Torres path. Torres has the decision take it on his left and make Ferdinand make a decision or take it on his right and run back into traffic, we all know which Fernando took. He as a world class striker has to be able to take the one chance he gets in a close match , its his primary job, its why he gets paid vast amounts of money and why we have heavily invested in him. No matter how much running around he does, he is paid to score goals. His show of petulance last week has again brought himself back into media focus, it was possibly his worst decision since he arrived at the Bridge and now only a return of goals will let him escape the cauldron. Time to step upto the mark Fernando, stop feeling sorry for yourself, we all have tough periods in our lives.
September 22, 201213 yr Threads like this are the reason Torres will never be fully accepted here unfortunately, if Torres turns into a prolific striker every 2 or 3 bad games in a row he has there will always be a "that's it, he's back to the Torres that first started at Chelsea, let's get another striker in he'll never be as good as he was at Liverpool." Torres scored 3 in 5 before these last 2 below par performances, that's all forgotten now. Most people have given Torres a clean slate this season to see how he does with no Drogba in the team but unfortunately most Torres haters have already made their minds up and will jump on his back at any given opportunity because they care more about being right than giving our players a chance. All I'm saying is give the lad until Christmas at least before sh*t like the OP get written. It's bad enough that the press and opposition fans get on his back at any given opportunity let alone when Chelsea's own fans do the same.
September 22, 201213 yr It's just wrong to say people don't give him a chance. You act as if the 1 1/2 seasons before now didn't happen, as if he's only had these 5 or 6 games and people are getting frustrated and running out of patience... The guy has been here nearly 2 years, has turned in woeful performance after woeful performance. I can count on one hand the number of games he's actually looked like the Torres we thought we were signing, and yet he still gets ridiculous amounts of support from the crowd, he still gets his name sung all the time and people still will him to do well and score some bloody goals. He has had more than ample "chances" to get his sh*t together. So don't sit there acting like people are jumping on his back for no reason.
September 22, 201213 yr Why? Because he's been such a rousing success? Obviously not. But I wouldn't feel comfortable with selling Torres for 20-30m then sign a player for under 10m completely unproven on the big stage, after 1 decent season. That is effectively what Newcastle did at that price range there's more duds than gems. Which as exactly why there at that price range. Signings are always a risk but thankfully we can shop at a price range that can minimize the risk.

I've given him a clean slate because dwelling on the past will get you nowhere, the excuses are gone e.g. wrong players, he's in Drogba's shadow etc and now I'm giving him the last chance to prove himself and I'm giving him a prolonged chance to do so and before these 2 games he was proving his backers right and his haters were nowhere to be seen but as soon as he has a couple of bad games (although I thought the game against Juve wasn't that bad) you lot crawl out the woodwork and slate him acting like the rest of the season has never happened.
September 22, 201213 yr Was that sublime goal against Newcastle just a figment of our imagination, instict, skill personified, you are all Entitled to your opinions, shame they have zero impact, apart from if Torres actually reads these posts :(
September 22, 201213 yr One decent goal does not a striker make. Of course i'll be very happy if he does start scoring goals and proves me wrong, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for it.

September 22, 201213 yr Is there even an argument to be had anymore? I doubt there would be, but you just know that someone will pop up with something.
September 22, 201213 yr He just seems to run into defenders. He started the season well, but he's just gone back into his shell I think. Disappointing.
