July 19, 201411 yr Atsu at 22 is surely too old now to be an emerging youngster who might break through. I can only assume a loan would be to put him in the shop window.
July 19, 201411 yr Well have to see what Jose and maybe even Lukaku himself say before we get any confirmation, he might be a pain in the ass in pre season and be shipped out before the window closes

July 19, 201411 yr http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/chelseas-romelu-lukaku-transfer-hold-3885510 Another story on Lukaku, Steve Holland has said, or rather affirmed, that Romelu will join up with the squad before a decision is made on his future. I can only see this going one way, he'll talk to Mourinho and stay at the club. If he doesnt its either because Jose didnt want him or the boys an idiot, wherever he goes apart from us he'll either have to accept competition for places (like here) or take a massive step down (Like Europa League step down). There isnt a competetive club in world football who put all their eggs on one striker.
July 20, 201411 yr Lukaku undoubtedly has an attitude problem, I feel. Perhaps, it is needed for him to wake up. Despite of it, Lukaku is a good player & we will see him getting better, yearly. Gooners said that same thing about Bedtner and look how well that turned out... Sadly, Lukaku's attitude supercedes whatever talent he has. The baby should quit football and join the NBA playimg basketball because there are plenty of players in that league who act just like Lukaku.

July 20, 201411 yr I am not very concerned about what Lukaku says to the press, as he's probably just answering questions asked by journos. It's rather his lack of quality on the pitch that bothers me. He is efficient, yes, but lacks in virtually every other department.

Can't read too much into that story...one it's steve holland and 2) all he's saying is he will report for pre season training...he was part of pre season last year and left at the end of it...I can't see what has changed since then..Costa and Torres will be first and second choice and he will just be a back up, which is what caused him to kick off in the first place and demand a move Edited July 20, 201411 yr by The Brit
July 20, 201411 yr ^ The last part of your statement is what worries me and for all the stick Lukaku gets on this forum, not many are questioning the status quo. It must be frustrating for any striker to play second fiddle to Torres, and as long as he remains with us, he will be 2nd choice due to his wages. You can't have a 3rd choice forward on £175k and as things stands we are stuck with him AGAIN!
July 20, 201411 yr See what bugged me though was Lukaku would have gotten his chance, Schurrle had to wait for his chance aswell. I think if he impresses in pre season he'll be second choice, he just has to do more than score goals cause Mourinho looks at more than that.

If he had stayed and fought for his place last season he may have ended up first choice. But he bottled it an left. His choice.

You only have to look at the team spirit he instilled at Chelsea first time round which lasted for 4 years in Terry, Drogba, Lamps and Cech. His ability to turn the like of Etoo and Fabregas. I absolutley guarantee that if Morinho wants to keep him, he will. He'll come back to preseason, an arm will either be thrown around him or slap him in the face and he'll start next year with a will to suceed at Chelsea again. Its part of the reason I think we are considering Drogba, give him a real want to be at the club. ^ The last part of your statement is what worries me and for all the stick Lukaku gets on this forum, not many are questioning the status quo. You can't have a 3rd choice forward on £175k and as things stands we are stuck with him AGAIN! Why cant you have a 3rd Choice on 175k a week? We had Bogarde, our highest earner at the time on 40k a week rotting in the reserves for 4 years. People seem to have a downer on Torres that he produces nothing in a Chelsea shirt. Whilst he needs more goals he does provide a service and sometimes last year justified selection over Eto'o and Ba, I dont think he'd be able to justify it with an inform Costa and Lukaku though. I dont think for one second If Lukaku comes in and shows his ability at the club Mourinho will even consider Torres' wages when it comes to team selection, in fact maybe freezing him out would be the solution to gettinghim to drop his wage demands and move on. Not saying that would happen but im sure a coach doesnt care about the finances of a player and looks at the impact of him on the pitch. He just has to want to fight the competition, if i was him i wouldnt even see Torres as competition, Id just go in there smash some goals in and make Mourinho choose me ahead of Costa. July 20, 201411 yr If Lukaku stays he will get plenty of chances to prove himself. Costa is the main man naturally as he is currently just simply a better player. Perfect scenario is he will be used as our impact sub and he is cool about it. If he manages to outscore Costa he will get more chances to start games. My point is it is all up to him. If healthy competition is what he is afraid of then he is in the wrong sport. I understand his side of it, his point of view. He thinks of his career. But end of the day the winners are remembered and not the best strikers of the trophyless club. Lets see what happens with Lukaku...
July 20, 201411 yr Also he's only 21 been a second choice striker right now is not bad for him at all, he just has to work hard, score goals and give Jose something to think about
July 20, 201411 yr Also he's only 21 been a second choice striker right now is not bad for him at all, he just has to work hard, score goals and give Jose something to think about I just feel he's being badly represented. His agent is pushing an agenda and he's not covering himself in glory following. Just like Robinho when he moved to City, if he is here he will get all the opportunities in the world to prove himself, he just needs to get realistic about his position and realise good competition will help him improve more than being at Everton fighting against Naismith.

July 20, 201411 yr I just hope its not a last minute loan or transfer out for Lukaku this summer like last year. Hopefully he comes back and impresses in pre season with both his performances and his attitude. Would be nice to know we was vindicated in the decision to accept his transfer request last summer and see him play a big part in the team this season.

Yeah that's the worry, because then that leaves us short or lacking in quality depth We've done that to ourselves a few times with players, another one that springs to mind is when Gallas went as part of the Ashley Cole deal in the final minutes of the window. We should have gotten to the deal done weeks before and got a CB in aswell.

I don’t think there’s too much to worry about there; I can honestly not see an alternative striker in world football who offer what Lukaku offers. Is there another 21 year old who has scored 60+ goals in league football? Balotelli has the same character flaws, If we had to sell him there isnt a player of his ability available for <£30 million and truth be told we’d be better off taking a huge hit on Torres to placate Lukaku. If Lukaku had last season in a Chelsea shirt and wasn’t agitating for a move, we’d be asking for £50 million+. Honestly if we release Torres on a free (costing us £18 mil on FFP) and paid half his wages for the next 2 years (another £9 mil), We would give a show of confidence to Lukaku and not have to replace him, based on newspaper rumours has had bids for under £20 mil we’d need to spend at least twice that to replace him and offer a contract probably 3x his 50k a week contract. Although binning Torres may seem like a massive cost, finding a top quality second striker, which Torres is not, would cost more than the Lukaku profit and the Torres binning combined.
July 20, 201411 yr eh? Apologies for not making my post clearer. I was referencing the previous comment about Lukaku having an attitude and how it would pass. People at Arsenal said the same thing about Bedtner too. My reference about the NBA is that Lukaku, his big mouth, and his poor attitude would be perfect in that league because that is how 85% of the players in the NBA act.
July 20, 201411 yr If he does stay and play like he wants to help the club achieve something next season, then I'm happy. We all know the talent is there but most top clubs need more than one striker and he has to realise that.

July 22, 201411 yr According to goal.com Everton submitted an 18m bid for Lukaku. I don't know how true is that, but it's too low, I feel. I believe, his price ought to be around 23 to 25m.
