May 12, 201511 yr Sure he's going to rest, but you consider this last bit a nice month off? He got clobbered. i can see the excuses for oscar are being prepared a few months in advance
May 12, 201511 yr He has the summer off now so next year is his final chance, the season he'll be judged by. I hope he lives up to his potential. There won't be next season for him. He will be sold this summer. He already had 2 full seasons to prove himself and it didn't work.
May 12, 201511 yr There won't be next season for him. He will be sold this summer. He already had 2 full seasons to prove himself and it didn't work. Yeah winning two cups this year is rubbish, lets sell all the players who were integral to our success.

May 12, 201511 yr I was gonna say Jose said he's staying so he won't be off BUT he's said that before and players have left. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
May 12, 201511 yr Yeah at the beginning of the last season Jose said Mata won't be sold and he was gone by the February. We will be upgrading our midfield and I believe Oscar will be replaced.
May 13, 201511 yr I haven't been his biggest fan but I agree. We need more depth, not less or same as this season. But if we do sign Griezmann or Koke, Oscar may just have to prove himself off the bench.

But if we do sign Griezmann or Koke, Oscar may just have to prove himself off the bench. That could hurt his valuation. If PSG don't get Pogba, I'm sure they'll be willing to throw a bucket of cash at Oscar. Not that I want him to go, but it's quite a decision for the club to make.
May 14, 201511 yr If Pogba or Bale are actually options then i'd very much support us sounding out PSG as to a bid for Oscar, if we can get around the 30m mark for him and Pogba comes for say around double that, it would be some very shrewd business.

May 14, 201511 yr He was just back from injury so it was to be expected, he still made an impact and had a big role to play in the goal that sent them through.
May 14, 201511 yr Yeah, lets see how he performs in the final against Barca. That will be a good test and gauge just how good he is (or isn't).

Don't agree with signing Griezmann, we got rid of Schurrle replaced him with Cuadrado, Cuadrado is our man lets back him for next season. Koke I'm not sure on him, would he be an upgrade on Oscar? I think many would say definitely, I however think we should stick with what we've got. However Oscar still has lengths to go, he still needs to improve his game to quite an extent. I've seen some flashes of brilliance from him, just not enough, that can be improved on I think. Just a debate on whether or not it'll happen.
May 14, 201511 yr Funny that the goal of the season link is above this thread, and Oscar is involved in a few of those. Looking forward to him getting some time off, and coming back next season fit and raring to go. Or we'll sell him to Juve?
May 14, 201511 yr Don't agree with signing Griezmann, we got rid of Schurrle replaced him with Cuadrado, Cuadrado is our man lets back him for next season. There's no way Cuadrado is going to magically transform into a good winger overnight. There's a reason we're being linked to so many wingers, it's mainly that Cuadrado wasn't/isn't the answer. The club are clearly looking for an upgrade and someone like Griezmann could help take our team up to that next level.
May 14, 201511 yr Don't think he'll be sold. It's been stated many times that the team is built around him. Jose himself said (I know he says alot of things) that he hopes he can really push on in his third season. We've heard all the excuses no rest etc. So this pre season will be his first proper pre season for a long time so let's see what he can do this coming season. It really does feel like this is a make or break season for him.
May 14, 201511 yr In reply to ForeverCarefree, it's clearly not looking great for Cuadrado, and we don't have too much to go on to say he will turn it around next season. However, even though it isn't exactly magically transforming overnight, there are a couple of players this season who seemed to have made some pretty drastic changes to go from zero to hero. Ashley Young from last season to this, for one. Also, a striker who looked as though he was going to disappear into obscurity and but is now rumoured to be interesting Roma, Liverpool and our own Chelsea at a price of 30m (Christian Benteke.) So I will (maybe somewhat foolishly) hold onto the hope till the fat lady sings!

So I will (maybe somewhat foolishly) hold onto the hope till the fat lady sings! I get your point but Ashley Young is having a good season by Ashley Young's standards, namely he hasn't been completely sh*t. He wouldn't get anywhere near the ours, City's or Arsenal's squads, let alone teams. I don't think anyone thought Benteke was going to slide into obscurity. In his first season at Villa he scored 19 league goals, last year he got 10 and this year he's got 12. He's decent if not amazing but you'd be foolish to pay £30m for him. Which brings us to Cuadrado, not since Fernando Torres has a player come in and had such an underwhelming first 6 months at the club. To put into perspective how bad it's been in his 261 minutes on the pitch in the league he's successfully taken on a defender 3 times, that's the same number that Shaun Wright-Phillips has managed in 135 minutes at a woeful QPR.

The club are clearly looking for an upgrade and someone like Griezmann could help take our team up to that next level. He seems to have turned into a bad winger overnight so why couldn't he regain his form? This is a man who has made 1 start in almost 3 months and when he has been introduced, it's been at the tail-end of matches. I don't think anyone who has an objective (ish) view of the situation can say that they've seen the 'real' Cuadrado as of yet. He looks to have no connection to the other players on the pitch which is what you'd expect from a player who has had barely any playing time since he joined. He also came in when we had players off-form (everyone bar Hazard) and resorted to a very tight gameplan, rather than the more expansive, attacking football we were playing earlier in the season. To put into perspective how bad it's been in his 261 minutes on the pitch in the league he's successfully taken on a defender 3 times, that's the same number that Shaun Wright-Phillips has managed in 135 minutes at a woeful QPR. It's also the same number of times Oscar took a player on and beat him....in double the minutes. In fact if you take it on a per 90 minute basis do you know who else beat a player less times than SWP (2.11 per 90) since February 2nd? Willian (2.01 per 90). In fact Willian beats a player only 0.01 times more per match than Christian Atsu. Is Willian a flop? Well maybe it's the defensive work Willian does which limits him? Well in over three times the number of minutes Willian has made just 2 more interceptions than Cuadrado and on a per 90 minute basis Willian has made LESS THAN HALF the number of tackles. In fact on a per 90 minute basis, only 5 players in the squad have made more tackles than Cuadrado which suggests he's being tasked with far more defensive duties which you'd expect given he's been given minutes at the end of matches, matches we've looked to hold on to most of the time. So maybe we should give him time, and perhaps not use stats to beat him over the head with.

(As opposed to falling over on his arse again). Early days. Give him a decent pre-season................................. Edited May 15, 201511 yr by Nibs
