This paper employs computer simulation, probability theory and mathematical modelling to explore the effectiveness of different penalty shoot-out strategies. Their analyses suggests that there is an advantage in placing the team’s fifth best penalty taker on the first kick, the fourth best on the second kick, the third best on the third, the second best on the fourth, and the team’s best penalty taker on the fifth kick. If the competition goes to sudden death, the sixth best penalty taker should take the sixth kick and so on.

I was very impressed with Ash's penalties in both our Champions League finals, especially considering he's never been much of a goalscorer. It's just a shame he followed his one in Munich up with such a poor one against Italy in Euro 2012...

I also remember watching Luiz walk up to the spot and thinking wooaaaaaaahhhhhhht are ya doing son.. get away from the balll.  His was also a cracker!

After Torres won the corner, mata whipped the corner and drogba blasted the corner then drogba conceded the penalty and mata missed the penalty.. It's really like against the odd, it's our destiny to win the holy grail, it's also easy to remember the date because it's 1905..

Me too. Neuer had absolutely no chance.

 

Thought he played well last night although his head seemed to drop after he missed that chance in extra time.

I think he will be better suited as a number 10.

He really needs a goal though, I think it is weighing on his mind.

Yeah Cole's pen was impressive. It doesn't look like good penalty but it went in.

Luiz's is still my favourite. Seems up his personality. Such balls do that in a final. If Neur touches that, he goes through the net with the ball.
