April 1, 20242 yr Regarding East Stand chatter. I can’t think of any other stands being built during this era. Think Everton’s triple decker went up late 60’s, Villa, Forest Wolves and Spurs has new developments around the 1980 mark. Agree that any replacement would struggle to match the capacity of the existing, then again bums on seats now runs secondary to corporate boxes and catering.
April 1, 20242 yr Just checked. Goodison Stand was 71. Btw working with a scouser recently, who told me they introduced random drug testing of the new stadium build workforce. Failure rate was so high they stopped drug testing.

We went to Shed Upper 😉 😂 I've had season tickets in every stand apart from East. I just don't wanna have to stand up all game, yeah West lower atmosphere was dire, West Upper was brilliant view , padded seats about 4 rows from the front and Abramovich' s security guys at the front getting " sit dahn" abuse when they stood up , and a fecking red hot heater that roasted your head . Can only remember one game when it was turned on though . I can't see MHU from where I sit ,.is there much safe standing up there ?

Occasionally some people stand but only during movements of high excitement. So not much this season! Some of the people I go to the games with have seats in the Shed Upper and are not happy having to stand. They blame old age and dodgy knees! I know what they mean. My ST for the women's games at Kingsmeadow is for one of the terraces. I have a dodgy knee and it sometimes plays up. Comes from standing in the same place for too long.
April 1, 20242 yr I like west lower these days , save my legs ready for the walk to Earl’s Court . Last 2 games Fulham Broadway closed. just given my daughters tickets for Thursday night in mhl - they love the standing . I’m almost regretting my generosity but they are family.
April 2, 20242 yr I'm a ST holder in the west lower. Love the view but unless it's a big game the atmosphere is poor. Away games are always better and I believe this is due to the age of the travelling support. I'm not as young as I used to be but still love a sing song but I look around and the majority of the west lower are either retired or tourists. I don't believe the safe standing has improved the atmosphere and until we increase the number of under 30s attending I can't see it getting any better . Maybe safe standing singing areas would improve but I suppose the Matthew Harding do their best. Without them there would be more noise in Brompton Cemetery
April 2, 20242 yr I’m in a season ticket club at work , apply for every game and hope lucky in the draw. these season tickets are for west lower , had about 7 games this season through this. also have 4 mates with season tickets in mathew Harding lower and often one of them can’t go so I pick up another 3 or 4 games . I really think if fans don’t renew season tickets blue-co will make another tourist area , match ticket pie and pint - £130 behind the goal noise zone club - blue co - bunch of w- - - - - -

I was at a meeting of the Chelsea Supporters Trust after the game against Burnley - I've posted about the meeting in the Boehly thread - and someone their asked about whether or not tiered pricing could be introduced and prices would be dependent upon where you sit. I think that's already introduced in the West Upper. Tiered prices along with a big increase in ST costs could result people who have sat together for years being split up. My ST is in the MHU and normally after the games we all head to the pub. As the CST meeting didn't start until 6.30pm I waited around the ground and noticed a lot of corporate fans. Corporate fans could be more and more noticeable.

It doesn't matter if it's prime Chelsea top of the table football either, effort, passion and giving everything gets fans behind the team. I think we are still too slow , predictable and ponderous at times although at times we can play some great football. I always go back to our game against Liverpool under Lampard and the transfer ban and Academy players in the side. Despite losing 1-2 we gave a standing ovation at the end for the outstanding effort the players showed. I reckon our players DO care based on their joy when we have scored in some games. Having watched us playing in front of average crowds as low as 16,000 and as low as about 12,000 a season, ( apologies if that figure is wrong) the idea that our stadium was a hot bed of raucous support is wrong Give us a side playing passionate, fast tempo football and the atmosphere will improve, or else the only noise will be from our boo boys at halftime and full-time
April 2, 20242 yr I’ve also noticed that the restricted view seats east upper are empty . ive bought these tickets before for £22 . seems to me only tickets club are selling is £120 on general sale , so the working person is priced out again . big worry if season tickets go up - my work could stop buying west lower and my mates stop mathew Harding lower - and I’m out of tickets

Other teams seem to generate a better home atmosphere wether their team are playing well or not. Palace, Newcastle, Leeds Everton to name a few. I don't know the answer but I do believe it's down to the average age of the match going fan.

Know quite a few West Ham fans who are marching on- bad knees and hips- struggle with the walk from Stratford Station to the ground. There’s talk of a shuttle bus service for the infirm, but still only talk atm. 40 years back they were taking the Shed, now struggle with a half a mile walk

April 30, 20242 yr Last week on the news was an article on the Paris Olympic Games. They showed temporary stands and stadia being built. It occurred to me that if you move away from Stamford Bridge, you have to rent Wembley Stadium or wherever. Why not erect a temporary stadium at Earls Court whilst the new stadium is constructed? I did think of a possible new stadium with Fulham sharing as a possibility but that ship may have sailed now.
April 30, 20242 yr We might need a temporary stadium for about 5-6 years. Not sure if that's a bit too permanent for a temporary stadium. IE The Paris one will come down imediately after the games and ours will just get rusty and potentially unsafe over a much longer period.
April 30, 20242 yr I thought they were just going to do a stand at a time? Surely that’s easier, albeit lower attendances for a few seasons!

April 30, 20242 yr With this new spending cap , does it make any sense to build a bigger stadium if spending is not related to revenues but based on a multiple of the TV income of the bottom club ? Have I got that right? It seems a random way of limiting spending. And what about clubs who could actually get into debt by spending up to the imposed limit?

If a stadium were to be approved for Earl's Court I expect the council would want it to be permanent. Probably academic as I'm sure the area is set aside for housing, shops and amenities e.g. gym and cinema. 2 hours ago, dkw said: Oh I hope we go back to the good old days of a big wooden board with pictures of a crowd on it while the works being done. Wasn't Arsenal criticised for the picture at Highbury when the North Bank was turned from standing to seating. The criticism was that all the faces of the 'fans' were all white. Think a lot of the faces were repainted.

April 30, 20242 yr Our ST seats are MHU and I love my seat, I'd be pretty miffed if I had to pay extra because of where the seat is as I bought it when they built the MHU and were looking at people to buy 5 year season tickets to raise money - cost us 4k for two tickets at the time which was a pretty loyal investment considering we weren't doing particularly well at the time. The whole point of giving them that much money was so I could hand pick my seat! Edited April 30, 20242 yr by chelseagirl1
