Jeffrey Bruma's Heart

Reports in the Netherlands that Bruma might have failed his medical due to a heart condition being discovered.  Additional tests have been ordered.

Very scary stuff, but if he actually has a condition it's great that it was discovered.  I keep thinking about Muamba and how awful that incident was.  Hope he's alright.

The sad things about football make it safer for others, if Foe hadn't have died Muamba probably would have , if Muamba hadn't collapsed they might not have discovered Brumas heart defect. Those 2 tragedies are so sad but the game is probably safer now as a result of them.

Hope Bruma is alright and wish him all the best

if Cech hadnt taken that blow to the head, and Jose hadnt pushed so hard for instant medical attention at football grounds, Muamba would have died. he really forced the issue on that one, and did a great thing for the game and the players

And yet at the time Jose (and us as a club) were abused for daring to question the authorities, in fact Jose was basically told to keep his nose out. Now its the norm at every club and has already paid for itself in one life saved.

Good luck to Bruma though, hopefully its a manageable problem that doesnt affect his career.

After his return was announced I saw one journo use the Reading game against him despite the good that has come of it since I think it was used in the context of Jose thinking he is above the authorities of the game... The same article also mentioned the thing with his dog so you can imagine just how much it was scraping the barrel.

Transfer went through, so hopefully that means his heart will be fine after all. Good luck to him, an if he does well it sounds like we have a buyback clause.

  • 2 weeks later...

He's been let go.

International clearance was last night completed for the transfer of Jeffrey Bruma to PSV Eindhoven, bringing to an end the Dutch defender's time as a Chelsea player.

Born in Rotterdam, Bruma was a product of Chelsea's Academy, having joined the club as a schoolboy in 2007. He went on to play a key role in our run to that season's FA Youth Cup final, making his first-team debut as a 17-year-old during the 2009/10 campaign, and featuring a total of 10 times in Chelsea colours during that and the next season.

After making a full international debut, Bruma spent the second half of the 2010/11 campaign on loan with Leicester City in the Championship, playing 11 times and scoring twice from defensive midfield.

That summer he joined Hamburg on loan in Germany, establishing himself as a regular in the side, making 23 appearances and adding another two goals. The move was a success and at the end of the season, it was announced he would stay on for a further year. His second season in the Bundesliga saw less action, with just 10 league starts.

Bruma now returns to his homeland with PSV, where he will link up with former Blue Boudewijn Zenden, who has been appointed in their Academy coaching setup. Chelsea Football Club wishes them both success in their future careers.

Their old tea lady retired and Zenden pulled a few strings to get the job so i hear. I think if he does a good job at that then after a few years he might get the chance to put the cones out in the morning as well.

I had high hopes for him, but he hasn't looked too good on loan at Hamburg. It just goes to show how hard it is to predict whether an outstanding youth player will be a success (see also Gael Kakuta). Still, PSV are a top Dutch club, so good luck to him. Hope his heart condition is nothing to worry about.

Yeah I think he will do ok. Maybe he wont be a world class player but im sure he will find a level that suits him and he will make a living from football.

Young Dutch players usually have the luxury of making the national team at least for a couple of games which can be a huge boost for their career. Bruma will get his chance and I hope he gets to the level he wants to be on.

More to the point, some else gave Zenden a job?!

There's a subtle clue in the article: "appointed in their Academy coaching setup".

He managed to land a job that he's actually qualified to do. A wise move I'd say.

Pretty funny that the first mention of it from the club is a throwaway line bundled into a completely unrelated piece.

One of the worst coaching appointments since Henk ten Cate.
