August 19, 201411 yr I couldn't stand the bloke at Arsenal, and he looked like a right bar steward that Barcelona game we played him in to. But since he has came here I don't just like him for obvious reasons but I think he's an alright bloke. Maybe I was wrong about him or maybe he is just more mature, at Arsenal he was theatrical all the time and always had to say things, he looks like he's gotten his head down since he has came here and he is working really hard. What a fantastic player though, we've never really had a central midfielder like him before, a great fantastic playmaker. My only concern is his fitness, he has always been known to have a good first half then a drop off later in the season. I hope that doesn't seem to be the case, I always remember him at Arsenal having a great start then getting an injury or two and playing a bit crappy at the end of the season. But did I just sum up every Arsenal player right there? I hope I just answered my own question correctly.

If he comes out of the tunnel before the Arsenal game munching on a stick of celery and flips Wenger the finger, I'm all for petulant theatrics! Edited August 19, 201411 yr by Zola's Love Child
August 19, 201411 yr I'll write a little more in detail on this later but Cesc offers the same attacking output as Mata with a hardened, cynical edge. Fabregas would absolutely dive or foul to get three points if he needed to and makes no apologies for needling his opponents. The same attitude is evident in Costa. I think Mourinho is simply attracted to player who share his results-first mentality and we begin to see why he preferred the likes of Fabregas over Mata. it's not an attitude I agree with or particularly want at Chelsea but as long as it wins trophies no one will complain.

I did a bit of looking into it earlier in this thread- in his best ever season he managed just 26 league games
August 19, 201411 yr Did a damn good job tonight and we should expect more. Can't wait to read what the Gooners have to say about him now.
August 19, 201411 yr The injury thing was ridiculous. I did a bit of looking into it earlier in this thread- in his best ever season he managed just 26 league games That's not good at all. He's also not renowned for his fitness in game either. I'm being very negative about this for a purpose but if Fabregas got injured which is proven that it's likely then who do we play? Mikel, didn't look impressive at all when he came on and he hasn't had any influence on our games for years, and Ramires who just hasn't suited this system at all playing centrally. So we could be a bit stuck if Cesc does go out, I don't want to be one to say oh well we will cope because we could also drop points for it, would we need another midfielder? Or can Mikel and Ramires be relied on? I suppose Ramires is a much better squad player than he is starter so he might put in a good performance.

August 19, 201411 yr The injury thing was ridiculous. I did a bit of looking into it earlier in this thread- in his best ever season he managed just 26 league games What are you talking about? Everyone gets injured at Arsenal. At Barcelona he hardly got injured and played a lot of games in the league in the last few seasons. 2011-2012 - 28 league games (was injured once, for about 3 weeks) 2012-2013 - 32 league games 2013-2014 - 36 league games By the way, the seasons he played a deep-lying playmaker rather than #10 at Arsenal -- 2006/2007, 2007/2008 -- he played a lot of games too: 38 and 32 games respectively. It's in the last few years at Arsenal, when he played higher, everyone started kicking him and he got injured a lot. But he pretty much stopped getting injured at Barcelona, despite playing high on the pitch. Edited August 19, 201411 yr by Ward
August 19, 201411 yr What a silky smooth direct pass for that Schürrle goal. Fabregas' vision is one of a kind. Finally we have this kind of player!
August 19, 201411 yr That second goal perfectly displays what we had and what we lacked last season. Hazard making a great run, passing it out wide, the ball comes back in and then ... 1) Last season - Ramires whacking the ball into nowhere 2) This season - Fabs releasing the best pass I've seen by our midfielders for a long, long time. Good man. So excited for this season now.
August 19, 201411 yr As I said I believe Fabregas is more of a complete midfielder after his experience at Arsenal and Barcelona. I must say I was ridiculed here for saying Cesc was better now than he was at Arsenal. It comes from watching La Liga closely on Sky. My same assumption came from watching Costa week in and week out in Spain. The trouble is Chelsea fans and other fans seem to look at big events like the World Cup and periods when players are clearly not conditioned to perform like friendlies and times when coming back or carrying an injury and make their mind up they know more than the likes of Jose Mourinho. There are going to be a lot of people on here waxing lyrical about Courtois, Fabregas and Costa as the season progresses who might do better to do more research before they spout out posts which in turn makes them wince when they look back. As posters on this forum they will lack credibility as time goes on. As I said from the outset the only player I would question is Luis I strongly believe he will take time to adapt to Premiership football.
August 19, 201411 yr I see the pessimists are at it again, talking about Fabregas's time at Arsenal. If you cared to watch La Liga in the last two seasons in a star studded midfield at Barcelona in the last two seasons he has chalked up 103 appearances of which 68 have been in La Liga. Even in his first year he played 33 in all competitions. This comes from experience and conserving energy and fitness through controlling a game through tempo at his own pace. That is why he is clearly a better player now than at Arsenal where he often never let the ball do the work because he was running around doing everything because players around him were not on his level.
August 19, 201411 yr I couldnt help but think on what Mourinho said right after that goal. Super Frank would have taken the volley on and gone for goal, but cesc had the vision for that pass. Awesome.
August 19, 201411 yr I couldnt help but think on what Mourinho said right after that goal. Super Frank would have taken the volley on and gone for goal, but cesc had the vision for that pass. Awesome. And probably have scored! But Fabregas' pass was a thing of beauty... and we know from his Arsenal days it wasn't a fluke. No Winter break won't affect him and he already knows the PL - the club did well in getting him.
August 19, 201411 yr Agree with that Gem, Frank in his pomp would have taken it on yes...and no doubt would have burried it in the top corner. Both are totally different players and since there is no other Frank Lampard Cesc is the perfect player for us. It's only 1 game but boy didn't he just light up the stadium with his quality? We are lucky to have him and thank god Wenger the dud overlooked him...I think that will be a decision Cesc rams down his throat.
August 19, 201411 yr Fabregas made more tackles+interceptions than Gerrard, Fletcher, Fernando, and Arteta this weekend
August 19, 201411 yr Fabregas made more tackles+interceptions than Gerrard, Fletcher, Fernando, and Arteta this weekend And more assists then Fletcher, Cleverely, Carrick and Fellaini last season combined.
August 19, 201411 yr Future captain of Chelsea as I said before. Controls our game and leads by example. He also has that winning mentality. Ideal captain if you ask me. Don't know how vocalhe is among other players but not sure if it matters.
August 19, 201411 yr Looks like he was made to wear the blue Shirt, all reservations have now disappeared.

August 19, 201411 yr He ran the 2nd most km's today after Matic. Okay thanks for pointing that out. But could you please read my full posts instead of just quoting very tiny bit I say, you might find out that I actually made a... point.
