January 4, 201610 yr One more game than matic has managed. Yep for this season, doesn't suddenly make Mikel a great player though.
January 4, 201610 yr If he was Spanish, we would call of Busquets or Alonso based on that performance yesterday. He just did the simple thing perfectly, shield the ball, short pass, intercept. Matic is probably a more dynamic player, but his problem this season has been losing possession in own half while being pressed on his favourite foot. When all fail, we could always count on Mikel! Losing possession while being pressed sounds like Mikel since he has been at the club. I remember when the opposition use to put extra pressure on Mikel because they knew he was useless with the ball and would give it away. Now his a first team starter let's see how he gets on till the end of the season not just the one game.
January 4, 201610 yr ^ didn't want to say that and spoil the good vibes, but we might be seeing teams dedicating a player to press him like they would do previously.

He thrives when people team up on him and he does his infamous short pass to an open player. The problems will only surface when teams cut off his passing options and let him have the ball unchallenged. But at least we are consistent in the fact that we can't say he had a good game without reminding everyone that he is still sh*t
January 4, 201610 yr Somebody made a good point on another thread when he said both Lampard and Fabregas prefer playing with Mikel in the midfield than Matic. Then i started wondering why Jose never tried Fabregas/Mikel when it was obvious Fabregas is struggling for form?

But at least we are consistent in the fact that we can't say he had a good game without reminding everyone that he is still sh*t I think he gets found out against teams that press really well. Mainly because he doesn't know his pass when he receives the ball. Palace didn't press well as a team yesterday, and it gave mikel time, and the options to pick the right pass. With so many teams playing on the counter attack this season, and there's quite a few playing 442, mikel could could really thrive, like yesterday.
January 4, 201610 yr Yes, he was immense yesterday. But my pet peeve against Mikel is that it seems to me that he heads the ball less than players like Thierry Henry and Hazard. I don't know if he broke his nose when he was younger, but I never see him eager or positioned to head the ball, and for a DM, that is a skill that should be high up on the list of things that a DM should be able to do and do well.

Go back and watch him against Barcelona in the Champions League semi final and against Bayern, then tell me he flopped.
January 4, 201610 yr Go back and watch him against Barcelona in the Champions League semi final and against Bayern, then tell me he flopped. I didn't say he flopped. He was fantastic in those games, but we didn't play through midfield at all, as we went long through drogba. We don't have that outball anymore.

Get the ball, take ages with it, either get tackled or pass it left or right. You was right you press Mikel and he will make a mistake at somepoint. My biggest hate with Mikel is he has no urgency. When teams attack you always see Mikel jogging about. You see that stat on skysports about top speed lol. Yeah Mikel had a good game, wait till we play PSG and see how good he is.

January 4, 201610 yr Haha, im sure Mikel will remind us allBet his performance vs Palace was a bitter pill for you to swallow.
January 4, 201610 yr Bet his performance vs Palace was a bitter pill for you to swallow. Not really, he did have a good game. I just dont jump on the bandwagon after 1 good game.
January 4, 201610 yr pass it left or right. ayyyyy My biggest hate with Mikel is he has no urgency. When teams attack you always see Mikel jogging about. You see that stat on skysports about top speed lol. He relies on his positioning. Matic is useless once you bypass him as well. You was right you press Mikel and he will make a mistake at somepoint. Unbelievable
January 4, 201610 yr Mikel relies on his positioning hahaha, i was waiting for that. One good game and his better than Matic lol. Theres a reason Mikel hasnt been a first team regular for a while and is only linked to teams in Turkey.

January 4, 201610 yr http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/573033/Real-Madrid-Chelsea-John-Obi-Mikel-Swoop Real Madrid signing Mikel, does anyone actually think that would happen. Real knew Carlo wouldnt be there the following season plus it wasnt much of a article, but a link all the same lol. More chance of Barcelona asking Mourinho to join them.
January 4, 201610 yr It's a shame that this thread mostly consists of arguments about whether he is sh*t or not and a lot of talk about how bad he is, even after he puts in solid performances. Not surprised, here we have someone talking about how sh*t Mikel is again, point proven. Can you please give it a rest and just support the player?
January 4, 201610 yr Ok Mikel is a world better and can play for any team in europe paging dr. false dichotomy, there's some patience to be tested in the reductionism ward.
