Karim Benzema in January?

Featured Replies

No.

Benzema is a very inconsistent striker, and although I'd think he'd integrate with our midfield well, I don't want him here. There are others who could do the job better (Suarez, Rooney)

Judging by the club's transfer policy, I wouldn't be surprised if we signed him. But I really hope we don't, it is just bad business and what kind of message would that send to Lukaku? (A lad we spent Â£17m on and is clearly our best striker)

Also, what kind of relationship do Mourinho and Benzema have? I never heard that Benzema was part of the group calling for Mourinho to be axed but I've also heard that much of the squad hated him by the end of last season so for that I really doubt this rumor will come to fruition.

Our strikers obviously haven't scored a goal in the league all year, we all know that, but I think there are some signs of life from them that they could potentially carry us to the title. And I don't see a point in bringing in a fourth striker because we would be back in the same position of trying to ship off Ba or Torres without any realistic suitors.

Not needed right now/this season - lets work with what we have!

We have enough 'potential' (really starting to hate that word) firepower from midfield to tally up the goals.

End of the season we release Eto'o, get back Lukaku (maybe Piazon too) and we shall see then what fate will bring for Ba (possibly Torres too)

Do we really want another misfiring brand-name of a striker?!

I think next summer we need to get rid of Torres, Ba and Eto'o and start over with our striker situation; beginning with Lukaku.  I think we need 2 reliable strikers for our system and Lukaku needs to be one of them.  My choice for second wouldn't be Benzema.  Ideally a Falcao or a Lewandowski, but since that's terribly unlikely I'd settle for someone like Hernandez or anyone who performs as more of a linkup striker like Rooney (not necessarily him though).  Hopefully Torres has a good season, but I really do think it'd be best for all concerned if he moved on in the summer having won some big trophies and we can start fixing some of the huge mistakes we've made in that department.

We really do not need another has-been or a stop gap.  We must get this right this time.

Never can quite relate to him anymore since I read that he paid 8K to a transvestite prostitute to spend 2 nights with him. Crikey!

I agree with Castiel, I would have Lewandowski or Diego Costa on the top of my list though. When Arsenal can buy Ozil, then I don't see why we should settle with players like Benzema, Hernandez etc.

It might be just me but I don't see how people are rating Diego Costa higher then Benzema at the moment. He's banging the goals in yes yes but it's only been like 2 months, If he finishes the season with 20+ goals then he might've proven himself in my eyes but still don't see him as a number 1 option for our front line.

Diego Costa is an even bigger prick than Suarez -- on another level. Wouldn't be too keen on seeing him here. Although if we have little other options than why not...

It's just that all the great ones seem to be well out of reach.  Lewandowski is nailed on for Bayern, Falcao and Cavani were just sold for 50m.  Who else is out there of that calibre?  We'll see how Costa does over the long run but there just aren't many options available at the moment - we just seem to keep letting opportunities to secure a top striker pass us by and I'm afraid it's because we spent 50m on Torres.  That whole transfer has caused us endless problems, both on the field and in the market and we've missed out on Aguero, Falcao and to a lesser extent Cavani because of it.

Back when Ancelotti was here, I wonder how things would be now if we had spent the money on Aguero in stead.  Or when AVB was here and Falcao was writing us love letters in the Portuguese press before going to Atletico.  It's really frustrating and I'd just like to put this whole business behind us.

It's not just the goals that makes him my ideal pick. His movement and hold up play is among the best I've seen from a striker. He can also bully most defenders with his size and is good in the air. I identified Lewandowski as the next big striker long before he did his 4 goals against Real Madrid, I'll do the same with Costa now :)

I'll take your word for it as I haven't seen too much of him in action, although his extreme character makes is kind of a throwback for me, ahh we'll see.

I would have taken him before we signed Eto'o.  Unfortunately if we go in for him now we are basically admitting that we have a striker problem and are throwing cash at it hoping that will resolve the issue

Stats aren't THAT bad really.... and i think with the Belgium contingency we have, he might fit in/gel quite well, being French and all...  Perplexing...

* Would you want him in Arsenal or Man Utd!?

I don't think he is better than either of Rooney or RVP so I don't see how he would improve United's attacking options.

Arsenal need back up for Giroud although I would argue that both Podolski and Walcott could play there (when fit) if needed, again is a big upgrade on any of those players? I don't know.

I wouldn't lose much sleep over him signing for either in truth and personally I think there is much better players out there and as I said before the only reason Madrid would be looking to sell him (possibly at a loss) is because he simply isn't good enough.

Not sure, but I think the fact that none of our strikers score goals is a fairly blatant striker problem, and it doesn't take a genius to work that one out.

I think the only people who don't realise we have a striker problem are people who don't like football/the BPL and the intellectually challenged.

Benzema isn't a typical striker one of the reasons he was never undisputed #1 at Real is because his tendency to drift deep and want to be part of the build up while their team is structured around getting the ball to Cronaldo instead. If this was an option an year ago I'd have jumped at the chance but honestly he was far too inconsistent last season and hasn't lived up to the hype of his Lyon days.

Obviously when you look at Higuain and how he has started in Napoli(filling that Cavani void); you could say that it's most likely Real's fault that Benzema hasn't really improved and could be a risk worth taking. I'm just not convinced and I also don't think there is much chance of Benzema coming in until the summer which might be too late.
