August 26, 20169 yr Unfortunately I think he's already beyond last chance saloon stage. He's a decent lad and a competent striker but to have any chance with us, he had to really pull up some trees when out on loan and it just hasn't happened. And so the conveyor belt continues............
August 26, 20169 yr This should be a fairly decent move for him. Burnley are hardly overstocked with strikers: they only have Gray, Vokes (who is often injured) and Jutkiewicz (who is awful). He won't start as long as the former two are fit, but he could (should) be the first backup. One thing which might count against him is that Dyche isn't a manager who is particularly inclined to use all of his substitutions for the sake of it, nor does he rotate especially often. I don't think he'll be particularly well-suited to Burnley's style of play, although this could be a positive as he might end up adapting and improving himself as a player. It does lead me to wonder whether he might be competing for a spot behind the striker (if they choose to play a system closer to the last time they were in the Premier League: more of a 4-4-1-1 with Ashley Barnes behind Ings) rather than as an out-and-out centre forward. Bamford really needs to take this opportunity. In two Premier League loan spells (admittedly both over the course of a season) he has failed miserably to establish himself, and hasn't even managed to score a single goal. Neither of these sides had a centre-forward in whom they were confident (as I recall Palace were flicking between Wickham, Murray and Gayle and ended up taking a punt on Adebayor in January; at Norwich he failed to outperform Cameron Jerome). Fair or not, if he flops again I can only imagine that he will find himself in the metaphorical Chelsea loan graveyard.
August 26, 20169 yr Good luck to him, hopefully he can replicate some of his form from when he was at Boro. Though yes, he's 23 in September so although still relatively young, you'd think this is his last opportunity to show his value to us So...in terms of strikers for us that leaves us with Diego Michy Remy (for now) Solanke Plus RLC I guess if he takes up a more advanced role. Sufficient coverage if Remy goes?
August 26, 20169 yr Andre Grey looks a real player but does he have the final killer edge? Hopefully Bamford can come in and take a few chances and get his career up and about
August 26, 20169 yr If he can adapt as well as I did when I managed to remember how to spell Jutkiewicz without looking it up he'll be fine. For reference, he's played the equivalent of over 14 full games for Burnley and never scored once. Awful player.
August 26, 20169 yr Andre Grey looks a real player but does he have the final killer edge? He does when it comes to the gay community. Edited August 26, 20169 yr by ForeverCarefree
August 26, 20169 yr He does when it comes to the gay community. I'm just glad he's never been partnered in front with Darren Bent in his career. There may have been issues there.
August 30, 20169 yr It's fair to say I think that Patrick will never make it here if he cant stay while we only have two recognised strikers in the first team.
August 30, 20169 yr Terrible place to loan him IMO for two reasons. 1. Dyche NEVER rotates. Gray and Vokes will start every single game they're anywhere near remotely fit for and they're already out of the EFL Cup. 2. Loans should be about relationships being built between clubs. Burnley and Dyche should have been struck off our loan destination list after the way Chalobah was handled there. He played a total of one hour of first team football in 6 months there. FWIW, I don't think Bamford is good enough to make it with us or indeed maybe not even in the Prem but that shouldn't stop both us and him making more intelligent choices for him to go on loan. For us to enhance the value of an asset and for him to develop.
August 30, 20169 yr Yeah, that's it for him here now. I had high hopes after his great season at Boro, but he's another who's been wasted on loans.
August 31, 20169 yr Annoying thing is it was painfully obvious this would happen which is why we should have cashed in when we had the chance.
August 31, 20169 yr Jutkiewicz has gone on loan to Birmingham until January - that can only be good news for Bamford.
October 2, 20169 yr He won't play a minute this season, especially when Gray comes back. Dyche just not the type to have a go
October 2, 20169 yr We should not have loaned him to Burnley, after they hardly gave Chalobah a game.
October 4, 20169 yr Strange when according to the Lee Johnson we have a long list of clubs / people we won't loan to. Having said that, if he doesn't break into the side I think it becomes instructive about how good he actually is- this could be 3 unremarkable sides with unremarkable attacking options where he's failed to make an impact.
October 4, 20169 yr Have to feel for the lad 'cos he had three great loan spells at MK Dons, Derby and Middlesbrough. But since trying to make that "step-up" to PL sides, for whatever reason, they just don't seem to fancy him. Real shame and with Batman, Traore, Solanke and Abraham all ahead of him, he may as well try and make a permanent move to wherever he can.
October 4, 20169 yr If he's not getting games by the end of the month, recall him and find another club, no point wasting yet another year on a pointless loan spell.
October 4, 20169 yr none are springing to my mind. maybe you're thinking of clubs sending players back for treatment when they are injured (which isn't really a termination of a loan) or maybe players have been recalled from the lower leagues when the premier league window is closed but the lower league window remains open (which obviously wouldn't apply in bamford's case)?
October 5, 20169 yr I wouldnt think you can recall players as the transfer windows are actually registration windows in reality, arent they? so if a loan player is registered on loan at a club can he be registered back at his parent club?
October 5, 20169 yr I had a look and it depends, I think, on the age of the player and whether the loan is classed as a short term or emergency loan or not. Arsenal took back coquelin outside of the usual window periods that season he broke into their first team but it was originally a short term loan. I don't think we can get Bamford back before January. In summary - I'm still not 100% sure.
